No. It's a sensitive subject for me. I knew better than to even open this thread, and it was dumb as fuck of me to open my mouth. I fully, completely regret it. I'm going to step away now.
I'm not sure I could have, but I do apologize if I actually offended anyone.
All anyone did was ask for examples. We managed to have 5 pages of peaceful debate and kumbayaing up until now. So if there's a problem, it seems to be with you.
You have no idea where I came from, where I've been, or what it took for me to get to this place. NO idea. You know what? I AM privileged to be where I am. I'm grateful every fucking day, because I DO know what it's like to be hungry.
You may know what hunger is, but do you know what it is to try and feed a family on not enough money? If you did you wouldn't say shit about buying fresh ORGANIC fruits and veggies
No, I don't know what that's like. I'm guessing most of you don't, either. Frankly, I can't even imagine it. I can not fucking imagine the heartbreak of having children and not being able to feed them adequately, or watching them be hungry.
Produce doesn't need to be organic to be healthy. I used organic apples as an example because that is what my store sells. Obviously un-organic is cheaper.

Oh I will fucking even.
You apparently forgot what it was like to be hungry because you are completely oversimplifying the cheap vs expensive debate. You are refusing to acknowledge that not everyone has access to the same "cheap" foods that you supposedly do. That is the very definition of privilege.

In what way have I said ANYTHING that lacks compassion?! Are you kidding me? The fact that you think I'm judging ANYONE for doing WHATEVER they need to do to feed themselves and their family honestly makes me want to cry. I judge no one. I know what it's like. I do think eating healthy can be affordable. I also think that sometimes that's not an option, because not everyone has the time to meal plan, shop accordingly and carefully, and make home cooked meals. And that really is an unfortunate thing, because everyone deserves good nutrition. PLEASE do not think I lack compassion for the plight of those who struggle to feed their families.
WTF do you think I'm backpedaling on, @led? What did I say that was in any way judgmental or lacking in compassion for people who have trouble affording to feed their families? Or that was judgmental in any way, period?

Was I the only one that thing that cabgirl statements lacked compassion and came across as high horse-ish? If no one agrees I will apologize.

Please quote whatever it was I said that lacked compassion. I will apologize. I'm just not seeing it.
Honestly, I apologize anyway if you felt I lacked compassion for people who face this struggle. I faced it myself.

And I'm saying that I have 2 kids to feed. I meal plan, shop the sales, and try to buy fresh produce and healthy, unprocessed foods when I can. My monthly budget for a family of 4 is $600. I can't get it below that without going hungry. So, please, Oh Wise One, tell me where I'm going wrong. I'm clearly an idiot.

Yes, but conventional apples are still more expensive than a bag of generic chips or a box of mac and cheese or a CASE of ramen.

You are most definitely not alone. All of her posts have come across as very condescending and judgmental.

My Mac and cheese this week was 68¢ a box. The more you know.

cabgirl, What you said read to me as, "Poor people can still easily feed their children healthy foods. I know how to do it, why don't they?" Since you asked.

Andplusalso, don't post something here that you claimed you knew was an unpopular opinion, without being willing to back it up and give examples. You have the time to keep posting here, but you don't have the time to give us some examples of cheaper, healthy food options!?
Tell me please how eating healthy is cheaper than eating crappy foods. Your example-$5 bag of apples which is a healthy SNACK, $5 can buy a whole day's worth of processed MEALS.
A bag of apples (maybe along with a jar of natural peanut butter - $4.99) can be afternoon snacks or breakfast for a week and a half.
Your organic apples $5.49 and a jar of natural peanut butter at $4.99 is $10.48. And that's just a snack... maybe breakfast for how many people? Hannaford Instant oatmeal for $1.59 (multiple flavors), Great value Thick and creamy mac and cheese 6 for $.64 so $3.64 and Hannaford Weiners $1.99; Hannaford Mixed Italian Vegetables $1.49; Knorr rice sides 2 for $2.00 is $10.71. But that is breakfast and a few dinners for just as much. And I don't have to worry about it going bad anytime soon.
Maybe if you just provide the name of your store? If that wouldn't be too stranger danger. I would absolutely love to eat healthier and not have to make banquet or hamburger helper every night.
cabgirl, What you said read to me as, "Poor people can still easily feed their children healthy foods. I know how to do it, why don't they?" Since you asked.
I said absolutely nothing about poor people. I also said absolutely nothing about eating healthy being easy. I only ever referred to the COST of healthy ingredients. I did not say anything about transportation, or the time it takes to prepare meals. Obviously a person working two jobs and using public transportation does not have the time or ability to travel to health food stores, shop, and cook well-balanced meals. You guys seem determined to make it seem like I suggested people on limited income could easily afford to feed their families wholesome, nutritious foods all the time.

How long did that take you to research? Less time than it takes someone to backpedal would be my guess. Bravo.

Except to did say something to the extent of, "If I can do it and know this stuff, how come they don't?" As if they SHOULD know.
