So I work in HR and oversee about 300 employees. One of my employees committed suicide last night. I'm heartbroken.
I'm not caught up on the thread yet, but I'm so sorry. We had an employee commit suicide this winter (11 employees total) and it was such a shocking, completely heartbreaking situation. I didn't know that a coworker's death could affect me so much.
I think I messed up these brownies. They were almost raw tasting in the center but the toothpick came out pretty clean. I used shortening instead of butter. Could that have caused an issue? Should I add more flour?
This didn't stop me from eating the entire pan, but I feel like I need to redeem myself. (And you know, eat more brownies )

I see the problem. It appears that you tried to bake them. Next time, eat the batter with a spoon and call it good.

The guy who hired me into my current position (but to whom I no longer report) just told me he's leaving the company. And he's kind of sneaking out, tomorrow's his last day and he doesn't want a fuss. He's been here eight years and feels his career growth has been limited, and he's just not excited about the place anymore, and wants to move on. Which I totally understand, but I'm really sad. I used to work with him really closely, and I really love the guy, but he was never a great manager, if that makes sense? And I think my current manager is such a better manager, he's so supportive of me and has helped my career grow, but moving to a different reporting structure a couple of years ago felt a little like betraying my old boss (he was never mad about it, of course), and I wish I could have done more to make him feel appreciated. It's a huge brain drain to the company that he's leaving, but I understand why he feels it's time to move on. Anyway, that was a long ramble. It's been a weird day at work, is all.

Thanks, I appreciate it. It rocked everyone pretty hard today. Such a shock. This is the 2nd in 2 years.
It's an exciting mail day in the Mocha household! We got baked goods from Vermont and our congratulations card from the White House The BLW and baby board books just pale in comparison.

My kids all automatically got congratulatory letters for being born from the governor or something, but never the White House. Fancy!
Wait. Really?
Yes. Did you not? I assumed it was just a PA thing they did when the paperwork was sent in. I forget elegantly who it came from. I'll have to look in the morning. They all got it though. Maybe my hospital sent in something?

We actually did get a letter from the POTUS. We were dumbfounded. After like 2 months we remembered by second cousins wife works at the WH. And then this last Xmas when we finally saw her I remembered to ask if it was her.
I had to pee, so I went and found one of the letters while I was up. It was just from the state rep. It's still weird all of my kids got them and M didn't though Meesh
