How do I get my baby to sleep in her freakin crib! ? Lol but she seriously gets up like 5times a night still and is almost 8 months! Ok, so more rant than question!
P is a big spit-upper! Never really had an issue with Dylan, so wondering if there are some tricks to limiting outfit changes for her and me. Eww, yesterday it landed on my eye and mouth.
She never seems uncomfortable, just spits up often after eating (and sometimes large amounts). Could I be over-feeding her?

Ugh, I'm sorry! I feel like sleep is such a crap shoot--some people wind up with wonderful sleepers from the beginning and some struggle for years.

Have you tried sitting P up and rocking her back and fourth on your lap? Logan was super hard to burp and this helped us most of the time. Hes mostly grown out of it at 7 months. Henry never spit up so I feel your pain!

mightybee Same thing here, Dahlia never really spit up but Juno for months spit up random bottles almost every day. sometimes it seemed like the entire thing and literally looked like a fountain. We were on enfamil gentlease and her pedi said as long as she isnt losing weight, some kids just spit up and then they outgrow it and that was right. Juno finally stopped but for months it was so random and didn't phase her one bit. Sorry that isn't advice, but I'm sympathizing with you, our couches and my outfits took quite the toll of being soaked. Hope she outgrows it!

mightybee, I had to keep Coco upright for about 20 minutes after most feedings if possible. Not quite totally sitting but for the most part 30 degrees or more upright. That helped a ton with spitting up and it seemed like it was from about 2-6 months if memory serves. Maybe try a more upright position for awhile after feedings?

All my kids had/have reflux and are spitters. I have no advice but give it time... until then it sucks. But I'm right there with you.
I gotta figure out how to get these guys to sleep longer at night. They go 3 hr during the day so there's no way that they need to wake up after 2.5hr at night. They put themselves to sleep so I'm not sure what the issue is??? Thoughts? The boys are 9 wks.
mightybee- try limiting caffeine. Andrew is also a spitter upper and that was one of the things online I found helped us a little. Also make sure she burps because it's worse when they don't get the gas out.

Good idea. I do notice that she's more likely to spit up when she changes positions. Like if I pick her up after a diaper change. But it is at other random times, too.
I used to always wonder why people put bibs on babies that weren't eating solids yet. Now I know!
mommymadness, That was my child. Sorry hon. Is it a hunger thing? Is it a need mama thing?
I think it is more that she just wants to be close to me. She eats decently well during the day and often during wake up I can just pick her up and by the time I get my boob out she is asleep again! This past week mh has been sleeping in the spare room while i cosleep with her. She sleeps a bit better this way but still get up 3 times probably. I've learned to function very well with little sleep as she doesn't nap for very Long during the day either!
mightybee, James Austin was what our pedi called a "spitter". He spit up all the time no matter which trick I tried (i.e. more burping, less at each feeding, sitting him at an angle). The pedi told me that babies like him usually stop when they can sit up on their own because it is tied to a core strength issue. He was right; as soon as JA started sitting up independently, it magically stopped!
Not any good advice.. I did become a bib connoisseur. I love the ones that are thick and have like terry cloth on the back. Those kept it from soaking thru to his clothes.

mightybee, could the nipple flow on the bottle be too fast? We still use the newborn flow nipples for my DD (5 months old) because she spits up way less when she uses them. My DD is on zantac as well though because without it she projectile throws up often and screams whenever she is laid flat.
Oh mightybee - I don't know if you're ready for this yet, but we also started Andrew on solids this week. Honestly, he barely spits up now. Its like a world of difference between last week and this week with his spitting up. We had talked to the pedi at his 2 month appt because he was projectile spitting up. He didn't seem to be in pain though. The doctor decided to not put him on anything since it didn't seem to be bothering him, he was gaining weight and he said it gets much better as soon as they start solids.

Ingird basically lived in a bib for about 4 months LOL. Just like you said, the spit up was random; which was so frustrating. It could be 30 minutes after she ate and wham. We would keep extra bibs in the car in case we forgot because she almost always spit up while riding in the car.
Like others said...she did outgrow it. I think it was around 7 months. She didn't have reflux or weight issues or sleep issues...just spit up randomly.

There is a really great bib out there that has a padded ring around the top edge hmmmm I cannot remember the type. I loved it because it soaked everything up.
mommymadness, I was going to suggest maybe co-sleeping and babywearing to see if that might help alleviate some of it. 8 months.. have you tried any sort of sleep training yet? any gently methods first maybe? Sounds like she really wants you for comfort and just hasn't figured out how to self comfort yet perhaps? Does she use a lovie?

mightybee DS1 and DS2 were both spitters with DS2 taking the prize for most often and most amount. I pretty much live in my bathrobe with the collar popped until I leave for work. That way I keep my work clothes clean and don't have to change in the morning. I keep an extra shirt in the car when we're out of the house in the event I get really doused.
We always try to get DS2 (A14 baby) to give a good burp after eating, but doesn't always do much. He'll massive spit 3-hours eating just as much as he would right after eating. Our pediatrician said some kids are just spitters (the esophageal sphincter, valve between stomach and esophagus, is still developing) and as long as the kiddo is comfortable then it just means extra laundry. DS2 is definitely growing out if it and he is 8-months now. Solids helped a little, but sometimes they just help to color the spit up!

xanthepants I definitely think she has no clue how to self sooth! She doesn't have a lovie that she seems attached to at all. We haven't done any sleep training and I know that we need to. I just keep putting it off! The second she stirs she just screeches so loudly!! We are staying at my parents so I kept sayin we would sleep train once we moved into our house. June seems a long way away still so I might have to just do it now! Although here we are in the same room so I'm not sure how that works with sleep training.
mommymadness, We've sleep trained with Eliza and she is still in our room, in the crib. We just picked a night that we both wouldn't be going to bed until she was fully asleep. It's just easier if she doesn't see us during the first phase. Her sleep has improved immensely. Until December she was up 3-4x a night and sometimes every 1-2 hours. Now we get random nights where she STTN otherwise it's 1x most nights. Our room is really dark and I don't have any night lights or anything so I think that helps. Plus H and I aren't really loud sleepers.

When Cooper was tiny, we wouldn't let him sleep that long during the day. The nurse in the hospital said babies are nocturnal and you need to reset the clock. Maybe try waking them up after 2 hrs during the day.

I try not to let them sleep too much during the day bUT the amount of pleasant wake time they have is limited. Last couple days I've been pushing for them stay awake in the late afternoon. We've gotten a couple of 4 hr stretches from that but wow are they ever unpleasant in the evening!

Good to know! P will be four months next week, so I still have a little bit before starting solids. I've started just wiping my clothes with some water instead of changing each time I get spit up on. Haha.

That's pretty much what I did too. I smelled of baby puke for a long time :/
mightybee, Like Mrsrek and Jodielyn - J was what our ped called a "happy spitter". She never fussed about it or seemed phased by it, and actually she normally smiled right through it and barely noticed... it was more annoying for us than anything. I had bibs galore, and also carried 2-3 good sized burp cloths with me at all times, as well as a change or two of clothes just in case.
For J it slowed down and got a little less frequent when she started sitting up on her own and we introduced solids. But it didn't fully go away until around 6-7 months for us.
I agree the double/triple ply terry bibs are great, as are the thicker bibs that have plastic in them or on the back. Just don't get the cheapo plastic backed ones (like a 10 pack) with a thin cotton top because the fabric doesn't absorb much and it's soaked quickly without helping much, just creates a puddle on the plastic back! Those are better for eating food, not for spitter-uppers.
abseptember if you have Instagram, follow @ twintalkblog! They just asked (under the zzz... photo) that you submit any questions you may have for the sleep training expert (and twin mom herself) and she will be addressing them on the blog next week.
P is 4 months and for naps I usually wear her or sometimes she falls asleep in the RnP or swing or car. I think I was more anal with D and started doing naps in the crib early on.
When did you start having LO nap in crib? When they are on a more set nap schedule? I don't think I'm creating bad habits yet, right? We just made the guest room into her room and will transition her from the bassinet in our room to the crib in that room soon.
