We really only started doing it regularly this week and it's only been yams so far. I mashed them up and feed them to her on a spoon and she loves it. We are only doing once a day for now because she doesn't have her well visit until next week and I want to talk with the doctor before going all out. We'll probably do a squash purée next.

Little bit of both for us here. I give A sliced apples, cucumbers, bananas, carrots. We do mashed up potatoes too which she loves. We also do purées to get her used to the green veggies like broccoli and peas. Baby Oatmeal in the morning. Previously it's only bee once a day but I'm trying to do breakfast and dinner now

We started last night. We're full on BLW. Last night I gave M asparagus and he loved playing with that. Tonight we are having fajitas so he'll probably get a chunk of beef and a few bell peppers. Right now we're just doing dinner time and after nursing. Milk (bm or formula) is still the primary source of calories and nutrients until 1 year.
We are doing solids once a day. We've tried: avocado, peas, squash, carrot, pears, apples, blueberries, and sweet potatoes. He really only loves the sweet potatoes. I usually make a new item once a week to try - doing homemade purees at this point.

I feel like I should be doing more. We have been doing purees and chunks of fruit in the fruit feeder. So far he has had peas (hates) carrots, sweet potatoes, bananas (favorite), pears, apples, cantelope, peaches and watermelon (another favorite). I am going to try and make some chickpeas and also try squash. We only do it at lunch time but I was told to have him at the table for dinner time so that he can join in with us.
DD is eating purées twice a day. After her second bottle and as her last feeding before bed.
Peas and green beans only get eaten if dipped in something else. She also is allergic to pears, loved finding that out.
Oh no! We just introduced pears the other day. That had to be scary!
Thankfully she only breaks out in a rash but it's all over her face and eyes. It happens with in the first four bites but leaves after a few hours. Doc said we could reintroduce them after 9 months to see if she out grew it. At least it's not a fruit that DH or I love and keep around regularly.

@msnicole06 - Oh no! That's awful. Do you mind if I ask what kind of reaction your LO had? I'm a little afraid my LO will have allergies only because I have asthma and have discovered that there are a few weird (food) things that will set off my asthma.
So far LO has had pureed sweet potatoes, peas, avocado, apples and pears. He hated the apples and pears. The only thing he has never given a funny face to is sweet potatoes. So he gets those more than anything. I have a baby bullet and one large sweet potato made a TON of puree so I've got some frozen. He gets puree once a day. I've tried BLW with avocado & it did not go well. Lots of gagging so I'm terrified to give him anything that is not puree'd at the moment. We have his 6 month appt today so we'll see what the Dr. says.

Glad to hear it went away. Hopefully she outgrows it!

ninergirl52 just a rash on her face mainly around her eyes. We might have given her pears 3 or 4 times before we realized the connection. At first we only noticed if after she ate.

Myles LOVES food! We are doing mostly homemade purées with a few store bought things here and there. He eats twice a day - lunch and dinner. He's had avocado, Apple, pears, bananas, blueberries, mangos, peaches, watermelon, honeydew, peas, green beans, squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, hard boiled eggs. - that's all I can remember, but I might have forgotten a few things. I often mix things and sometimes add some oatmeal. We also use mesh and silicone feeders. He prefers the mesh.
Mangos are his favorite. Green beans are least favorite, but he still eats them.
We're having so much fun, but the laundry, clean up, and poops are out of control !
We've been doing store bought purees once or twice a day. Usually sometime in the morning and then at dinner. So far, she's loved carrots and sweet potatoes and hated peaches. Everything else she's fine with. I've also let her lick watermelon, bell peppers, cucumbers, strawberries, and apples. She loves the apples!
She doesn't eat very much at a time. Maybe a tablespoon per meal.
So far, she's had rice cereal, sweet potatoes, apple sauce, and carrots. Daycare lady feeds her solids at least twice a day, more like three.
@msn06 So far making our own purees consists of boiling or steaming sweet potatoes, apples, or carrots then throwing it into a food processor. Freeze anything she doesn't eat in a couple of days.
MsNicole06 I think we might have a food allergy here too, but haven't done any eliminations yet. She suddenly got a really serious rash on her foot. I asked at her well visit and the doctor said eczema, but the onset happened when we started solids. It doesn't seem to bug her... She hasn't had many things though.
We're doing both BLW and puréed foods. The only food she actually likes to feed herself is apples and avocados. The rest (bananas, carrots, squash) princess baby demands to be fed to her. We do solids twice a day.

Thanks for posting this because I was just wondering what others were doing
I make my own purées and so far she has tried avocado, sweet potatoe, banana, carrots, peas, green beans, blueberries, and yogurt. I make batches and freeze them. I've thought about trying some blw but I'm scared too. DD has a hard time with chunks in her food and spits them out so I'm not sure she would be a fan.
I'm guessing I give her about 3 ounces of solids per day? I may start increasing. She gets about 3 ice cube tray spots a day and a small scoop of yogurt- however much that is
We do an oatmeal/BM/fruit or veggie mix once a day, mainly so he would get some nutrition at day care where he refuses bottles. Today I gave him a whole strawberry to play with, lots of licking and smooshing, messy but really fun! At dubbed I sliced a cherry tomato in half and same sort of thing. Want to try giving something at each meal I eat in front of him.

Fajita meat and bell peppers tonight. The beef was a hit! The bell peppers not quite so much. Just like daddy... take the meat, throw the veggies on the floor. I'm loving watching M discover foods. He's so happy playing with them.
We are doing BLW and he has had sweet potato, avocado, apples, pears, mango, turkey, red bell pepper, toast, and egg. I love watching him explore the food, he has so much fun and actually gets a surprising amount down.
However the gagging terrifies me way more than I thought it would. I'm super anxious about making sure the food is the right size and consistency for him. wildflower810 how are you dealing with the gagging?
Post by wildflower810 on May 28, 2015 6:46:22 GMT -5
spikesmom, I've actually been pretty calm about the gagging. M has stuck food too far in his mouth at each meal, gagged, pulled it back out himself, looked at his food, then put it back in at an appropriate place without gagging. When he got little bits of asparagus in his mouth he was having a bit of a gaggy time but I just watched him and let him figure it out himself. I was right there and ready to swoop in if he started choking, but he didn't, and I know he learned from the experience. No way would I give him food and leave the room at this point! But being right there and watching him figure out how to solve his gag a few times has given me the confidence to keep going forward.
wildflower810 my lo doesn't seemed phased by it at all and he has worked it out himself every time it just scares me every time I love watching him with the food and my H is really enjoying it as well so we are sticking with it. My lo is so independent and focused I don't think he would enjoy being spoon fed.
We've introduced avocado, sweet potatoes, bananas, and watermelon, though nothing has made it down the hatch yet. She was completely disinterested in the bananas. She hasn't put anything in her mouth on her own, choked and spit out the sweet potatoes, but loved to gum on the avocado and the watermelon before spitting it out. It's slow-going over here. Pedi also said to introduce meat!

gldnbearz, We've done acorn or buttenut. If you try zucchini whole and not puree I'd give a thick slice slightly steamed and scoop out the seeds. We give LO cuccumber like that.
We've tried home made and store bought purees, rice and oatmeal cereals and we have been giving him whatever is on our plates to mess around with (I guess our version of BLW). I was eating an oatmeal breakfast biscuit and he was all grunty and reaching for it today so I gave him a nibble.
He's had just about any Gerber puree they have available in stage 1 and 2. As for BLW foods he's had broccoli, apples, peaches, pears, grapes, honeydew, pancakes, sliver of a bagel, asparagus, oven fries (not frozen ones, made from scratch), pasta (no sauce), scrambled egg, orange slices, bits of chicken, avocado. Probably more but I can't think of them, the only thing he had a reaction to was a puree that had blueberry in it but we reintroduced after a month and he was fine. The only thing he has turned his nose up at was lasagna in a jar the other day (stage 3 Gerber). I don't blame him!!
spikesmom, the gagging freaks DH out so much, he thinks he's going to choke every time. I notice a that sometimes with the broccoli he'll get a good clump stuck in the roof of his mouth that he can't get out so I give him a finger swipe.
