A day in the life of LO - Food edition

Walk me through - what are your LO's eating on an average day? How many bottles, solids & specifically what solids / finger foods.

We're trying to get this down & have had some bumps in transitioning so he's not getting much food right now & I need to find some ways to get him to eat more. He refuses anything on a spoon & just wants to eat with his fingers...so we give him as much fruit & veggies as he wants, and he also eats cheerios, puffs, etc. Basically I want to see what you're all feeding LO so I can steal ideas

Elena nurses 5-6 times a day. She has finally gotten up to 3 meals a day. She will only eat purees so I'm no help to you. She will not even open her mouth to eat anything until she sniffs the spoon. I have gotten her to eat her not so favorite foods by offering them when she assumes I feeding her what she likes. She has caught on to my tricks.

Anyways, I will be following this thread for some ideas as well. I have tried giving her finger food but she just plays with it and gets really mad if I try to put it in her mouth.

Jack take 4-5 bottles a day and eats 2-3 meals. We had been doing 3 meals, but since I've been sick, I've also been lazy and sometimes it's only 2. It's usually:
Bottle when he wakes up, then about an hour later, yogurt for breakfast. Then a bottle for morning nap, then something for lunch like veggie spaghetti or something. Then a bottle for afternoon nap and then some of whatever we're eating for dinner or a meaty stage 3 if he can't have what we're eating. Then a bottle before bed.

Breakfast- Sippy of milk, whatever we are eating.

Bottle of formula snack.

Lunch- sippy of water- whatever we are having

Snack- bottle of formula

Dinner- whatever we are having, sippy of milk

Before bed- transitioning to Milk but a bottle of milk-type product.

Basically other than formula he eats what we eat. Ethan is 11 months and we started our transition to milk at 10 because he thinks he's some sort of special snowflake. I have about 2 weeks of formula left then I'm done. Ill put him on a multivitamin and he'll have to be a real boy

Nurse 630-7 am. Breakfast is avocado eggs and a fruit. If not avocado some soft cheese or beans. Lunch is two veggies and a avocado or beans. Dinner is one veggie and puffs. She also nurses at night. And also drinks about 20 oz of breastmilk during the day.

Our fruits and veggies include
Sweet potatos
Stars berries
Blue berries
Banana
Canned peaches rinsed
Clementines (isn't recommended by me because they squeeze them)
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Peas
Zucchini

She eats 3 meals a day, nurses 4 times, and gets one bottle of BM before bed. If she is eating with us, she eats what we eat. Usually she has her own meal times though. She now refuses purees.
Breakfast is often eggs with veggies, Cheerios, toast with peanut butter. Lunch might be a hummus and cheese sandwich or grilled cheese. Maybe leftovers of what we had for dinner. Dinner is veggie pieces usually right now or leftovers.
I need ideas too for things to make for her when she's not eating with us.

LO gets 4-5 bottles of formula a day (24-30 oz)
Breakfast - yogurt, waffles, fruit, cheese toast, or cheerios
Snack (not everyday) - nutrigrain bars, puffs
Lunch - veggies, chicken, fruit
Snack (not everyday) - puffs
Dinner - same as lunch, avocado, pasta
Sippy cup of water offered at all meals

Fruits and veggies include carrots, squash, green beans, peas, broccoli, bananas, oranges, pears, blueberries, peaches, strawberries

Gah! Your kids are all eating so much more variety than mine! I was so caught off guard when he just decided he wouldn't eat purees anymore & I just haven't gotten into my groove yet. Planning to try some yummy new things this weekend!!

He did have more table food when we were traveling, it's so much easier when there's continental breakfast & restaurants...haha

So yesterday Ethan had waffles (plain) and strawberries cause we were eating waffles for breakfast and James wanted strawberries

Lunch he had chicken.. Cause we were eating chicken..

Dinner he had collards, potatoes and meatloaf

He literally gets what we get- we don't make him a special plate of food he gets a portion of whatever is made for breakfast/lunch/dinner.

He's had sausage, pb&j, roast, deer, etc. If MIL fries something he doesn't get it. But thats about the only "rule".

I was talking with another m14 mom last night (we were focused more on the "WHAT AM I GOING TO FEED THEM WHEN I EAT OUT SO MUCH UUUUUGGGHH" aspect) but if you're not in the habit of cooking H and I got a 5 ingredient cookbook and basically made meal plans for 6 things and made our grocery list off that. Its simple basic table food and ours were perfect for DH James and I to share and have no leftovers. add a veg or two side and you've got a meal.

They are usually easy prep- simple to cook- and easy to adjust to taste. Also if your kid has a reaction, easy to narrow down. Food takes pratice- Ethan didn't become the eater he is overnight.

Los typical schedule:

8:00am: wake up 5 oz bottle of formula

30 mins later breakfast: either fruit with oatmeal/waffle/pancake, sippy cup of water

11:00: 5 oz bottle

11:30 or noon: lunch some type of veggie purée and a finger food. Ex: scrambled eggs with cheese, grilled cheese, piece of cheese, yogurt, string cheese, turkey, baked beans, etc
Sippy cup of water

2:00pm: 5oz bottle
5:00pm: 5 oz bottle

5:30pm: dinner, whatever we are having or a dinner purée , sippy cup of water

8:00: 5 oz bottle

One of the bottle times gets dropped sometimes because of naps, more often then not these days and I give puffs and yogurt melts as snacks.

I used to cook a lot. I just haven't gotten back into the habit / routine of doing it since LO & I feel less than motivated to cook after he goes to bed so we've been eating a lot of easy prep / frozen types of foods...and I don't want to give him those. I really just need to start cooking & eating the things I want him to eat...I guess. I'll probably also make & freeze some good bite size recipes I'm finding online...and maybe start snacking on them myself .

Seriously, where do you all find the time / energy to cook? We have a mad rush from the time we get home until bedtime....and then it's a late dinner & prep for the next day.

Right now- mil is doing it for me (but I have mounting physical limitations and her's are reducing)

When we move out- ill have to be able to do it on my own. I use cook time (when alone) to make the boys play together or do independent play. Some days Ethan stands at his gate and yells at me. Some days he doesn't want to come out for dinner.

I do most of my cooking on the weekends and make enough to have leftovers all week.  I'm also trying to use my crockpot more, but I'm not very successful. 

Also, LO doesn't always eat the same thing we eat.  I'd like to transition her to eating our meals but we don't always eat very healthy.  I'll cook extra of whatever LO is going to eat (mixed veggies, pasta, etc.) so all I have to do is heat it up and put it on her tray.  Most of the stuff she eats doesn't require a lot of prep.  But I agree with a notyourmom, it's taken time to get her to eat all of this.  She went through a phase a few weeks ago where all she wanted was purees and this was after eating lots of finger foods.  I also think daycare helps with the variety.  She's started eating most of their breakfast and lunch options.  And we don't have a lot of downtime/playtime in the evenings - maybe 30 minutes, if we're lucky.

Yikes, this question is scary for me. T has started refusing purees and is now switched to soy milk per her pedi's instructions.

Here are her last two days:
Tuesday
Daycare:
Breakfast - Cinnamon roll
Lunch - Beef Enchilada Casserole
Snack - Banana Pudding
Home:
Bottle of milk
Snack - puffs
Dinner - Roast w/ carrots

Wednesday
Daycare:
Breakfast - Cinnamon Toast
Lunch - Potato Soup
Snack - Wheat Thins
Home:
Bottle of milk
Snack - Puffs
Dinner - Hot Dogs w/ chili (no bread)

So we are a spicy cooking kind of family and I'm getting stressed thinking about having to start toning that down or cooking a smaller portion with less seasoning for just her.

On the SAH board they did a weekly meal planning thread. If I was cooking i'd totes help.. But as is peeling potatoes lands me in bed for a half hour :/

bennieangel He likes mum mums, yogurt melts, puffies, pieces of bread and he likes turkey. But one can not live on mum mums alone and it gets expensive! Haha

T likes the mum mums and puffs, but definitely not the yogurt melts.  Worst mess I've ever seen.  She lets them sit in her mouth for a minute or so and then somehow gets them out and they end up smashed on everything!  Sad part is, I was kind of hoping they would be more of a treat, flavor wise and she would love them.

See, that's what I figured T would get out of them.  A sweeter kind of treat.  Nope, she just lets them flop out of her mouth and then they are everywhere.

Not a fan of any diced fruit or veggies yet? T does ok with them for a bit & then gets bored, if I add in cheerios to the mix he regains interest & will eat more of everything. He seems to prefer to pick up foods that are dry.

Yes he loves banana! But only if I feed him the pieces haha
