I don't understand the title either, but good morning! I'm psyched I managed to sleep almost until 6 today! I have way too many things on my to-do list today and not enough hours to do them...I'm screwed.
thelorax you have ALL my sorrys! We had a rainstorm last August and multiple cities all at once had sewage backup. The main pump station basically went down and thousands of homes started backing up all at once! No one could get a plumber or even drive down streets... It came up around 7:30pm and all went down by 9ish... It was so weird. In any case... It ruined everything in it's path... If you couldn't sterilize something it was tossed (anything porous went bye bye). I know what you are dealing with and it SUCKS! Have a drink... Or two.
I need some interview advice. What's the best way to say that I'm frustrated with my job and my boss isn't very enthusiastic about changing my role and the structure of our department. I want the responsibilities of a traditional counselor and I want to be seen by the staff, students, and parents as equally able and competent to help. How should I word that?
sctiger,I see your post in the old, spam thread. I wouldn't go in all guns-a-blazin' about why you're unhappy in your current position, but if there's a question pertaining to why you're interested in the high school level, I'd throw in all the counseling related things you want to do. My usual response to that question has been along the lines of, "Imlike working with this age group because I enjoy helping them prepare for life beyond graduation, especially the career counseling part. You can add in that you have copious experience with career counseling at your current position.
In my experience, there are always going to be tasks assigned to you outside the typical role. At my previous school, I had a few regular duties, I was the yearbook bitch, and I did a few other special projects around the school related to committees I was on. Currently, even at half time, I do lunch duty three times a week plus a shit ton of what I consider to be administrative stuff (like, checking the teachers out of their classrooms last week). I'm kinda surprised your current position has enough funding to even exist, as it sounds like kind of a fluff position. Can they not divide the students by alphabet into four caseloads instead?
There's a recent thread on working parents called unsolicited interview advice you might want to glance at.
Thanks guys. vasc it does feel like fluff. This position was created 3 gears ago when my school grew enough to have a 4th counselor. This is what they decided that counselor would do. I proposed a different caseload arrangement and it was not received enthusiastically. Our 8th grade counselor has made it very clear that she will not work with 6th grade and she's been there long enough to always get her way. I know there will always be those extra tasks but I feel like I get a lot of crap because of my role. I feel like I'm secondary to the other three, kind of like an intern.
I want to make it clear what I'm looking for in a new school and making it clear that I'm not going to school hop.
I did want to add that the person who had the job before me left for the same reasons. She was willing to put up with it because it's a great school, but a job opened up at an elementary school that she really wanted and she got it. They are not going to keep people very long if they keep making them do fluff crap.
I tried to post overnight, but the board was down. M slept from 10-2:40!! I was still up until after midnight because I'm an idiot, but whatever! I was hoping to drop the 2am wakeup first, but if she drops the midnight wakeup, that's cool too.
B is so psyched to go to work with me today. I took him for an hour on Friday and he was just SO pleased with himself helping throw away trash and stuff. All weekend he kept asking about "mommy work"

You can say based on your schooling you expected your position was going to be like X and that hasn't been your current position. Talk up interaction with students, etc
Hope everyone had a good weekend. We had major storms here last night and I got caught in one of them as I left the grocery store. My clothes from last night (11 hours ago) are STILL wet despite hanging in the bathroom all night! It was craziness. The roads were flooded on my way home and I have very rarely seen rain that hard. Our sump pump has been running all night I hope everyone else in the stormy areas managed to stay safe and dry!

Morning ladies! I have been up for a while but it is K's first day back at daycare and I needed to get her up and off. It's just me and my little man today! My H works until 9 tonight so I will try and get out with O today so I don't go crazy. Luckily, he due any have too much of an opinion yet about what we do
Oh wow!! I made it in on the first page! How was everyone's weekend? I tried to catch up both days but never even had a chance to open PBs up until late and ended up skimming quite a bit. The ILs came up Thursday night. We had a great visit and Madeline just had a blast with her grandma and grandpa. FIL left yesterday afternoon but MIL is staying with us until the 28th. We had a bit of a workbee around the house yesterday and got so much done! My stepdad came out to help Tyson lay the flooring in our new mudroom. While they worked, my mom, MIL and Madeline weeded flowerbeds and I got to work loading recycling and organizing the garage. Such a productive day, I never want to let these guys go! As we were saying goodbye to FIL, I half-jokingly (since it wasn't really our idea) thanked him for lending us his wife. He smiled and said of course, but you better not make a habit of it! They are so cute and in love, and he's totally going to have a rough 2 weeks without her.

Hi everyone! I completely lost track of everything last week. May and June have been so crazy with traveling and guests. Last weekend MH graduated and his parents are here to celebrate. And we move two weeks from today! Eek. So I make no promises about how often I'll be around over the next 3 weeks. Hopefully I'll be back more regularly when we're settled and things calm down.

Congrats to your DH! We'll have to plan another ATL GTG sometime in July once you're settled
