Hey everyone!! A few of us have decided to start a check in for healthy living and weight loss while breastfeeding. I will post it on Friday and anyone and everyone is welcome to join. Because this is the first one, please feel free to weigh in with ideas of how to make this helpful!
I used to work with an amazing nutritionist and she would make me think about the week ahead and plan. So I included a question about any challenges. This can be emotional but I also mean "Have to have drinks with colleague" and maybe we can share tips to keep calories low and choices healthy!
How many weeks/months PP are you?
What's your goal? Either this week or overall?
Any upcoming challenges you want help/ideas with?
QOTW: What's your favorite physical activity?
Extra QOTW: what's one thing you'd like added or that you'd like to get out of these check-ins?
Lastly- found an article on LLL's website. It's pretty general but a good place to start. I am going to try and find resources to help us. But no promises I will have one each week! www.llli.org/faq/diet.html
How many weeks/months PP are you? I am just shy of 3 months.
What's your goal? Either this week or overall? I need to lose a rather large amount of weight overall. I'm actually at my pre-preg weight now but I started out too high. And we want to start TTC again this fall so I need to be down 20-30 pounds by then. It'll make the pregnancy much easier.
For this week - I head back to work and want to make sure I'm making healthy choices there. I think right now my goal is nutrition and once I have my new routine, I'll work on the exercise part of it. I don't know that I could achieve both right now.
Any upcoming challenges you want help/ideas with? Not yet... I don't know what weeks will be like yet!
QOTW: What's your favorite physical activity? Swimming. I love to swim.
Extra QOTW: what's one thing you'd like added or that you'd like to get out of these check-ins?

I have been waiting two whole days for this!!
How many weeks/months PP are you? 6 months
What's your goal? Either this week or overall? To loose weight (about 25-30lbs) and to run in some sort of 5k or 10k
Any upcoming challenges you want help/ideas with? I have an idea for exercise about what I like, but having a hard time with food. It seems when I count calories it makes me more hungry because I am so focused on food. I guess I am just going to try and eat for appetite not comfort or boredom and try to cut out processed food for now... Any ideas?
QOTW: What's your favorite physical activity? Yoga and swimming
Extra QOTW: what's one thing you'd like added or that you'd like to get out of these check-ins? I just want accountability I guess... If I know people are checking up on me I am less likely to cop out!

I bet it is so hard to be balancing work, working out, eating well and having downtime! I don't know how working moms do it and I am so impressed!

That's what I want too- the accountability. Even if really it's just making me check in with myself? Profound... also, I just failed my first test and ordered Chinese for lunch. Boo.
I count calories because I am a numbers person. It works for me. But I don't count any veggies (except beans, corn, potatoes... The starch ones). And my nutritionist told me to just do things in increments of 25. So if it's 115 calories, I call it 125 and it's easier.
She also used to always say "you didn't put the weight on eating fruits and veggies, don't stress going over with those."

That's awesome advice about not counting fruit and veggies... I have been so motivated to work out that I am trying to focus on that right now. Also tomorrow is my birthday and I am going to a tapas restaurant - the hell if I will be counting those calories! Esp because we know the owner which means free food!

Birthdays are always freebie days. Happy Birthday!!
Exercise. I don't know when to fit it in. I'm pumping at work, so I can't go to the gym on my lunch break till I cut down on pumping.
I love to run and take classes at the gym.
I'm hoping that these check in's will motivate me more. I've been using breastfeeding as an excuse and it shouldn't be.
I have been terrible about using breastfeeding as an excuse to eat... I only gained like 10lbs when I was pg so I don't know why I have fallen off the wagon so hard!
How many weeks/months PP are you? I'm 10.5 months PP
What's your goal? Either this week or overall? My overall goal is to work out more. I went from working out intensively 6, sometimes 7x a week to maybe on the weekends. That's forced me to have to focus on food more, which I don't necessarily like. Another goal is to maintain my weight after weaning. I know some people say that they lose their last 5 pounds after weaning but with how many calories BF burns, I'm afraid I'll be gaining.
Any upcoming challenges you want help/ideas with? I guess what I've mentioned above. Like all moms, I struggle with finding a good balance. I work with a LOT of people which take a ton of energy out on me and sometimes when I actually have the time to work out, I just want to sit and be quiet. I know I'd feel great after working out but I miss my ability to do both like I used to before LO was born.
QOTW: What's your favorite physical activity? I love running and taking classes at the gym (i.e. hot yoga, spin, etc...) but don't have the time to do the latter
Extra QOTW: what's one thing you'd like added or that you'd like to get out of these check-ins?
franklymydear: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Enjoy your tapas... YUM!!
What's your goal? Either this week or overall? my main goal (always) is to stop binge eating, which would go a long way toward my overall goal of staying at my "happy weight" and being fit and emotionally healthy
Any upcoming challenges you want help/ideas with? I could use some ideas about ways to relax and decompress at the end of the day, because I've always used food to soothe myself when I'm tired and stressed out. LO is with me 24/7, and I can't always get time to myself after work to exercise or read, etc., so eating is usually the easiest thing I can do to make myself feel better, at least temporarily.
QOTW: What's your favorite physical activity? running
Extra QOTW: What's one thing you'd like added or that you'd like to get out of these check-ins? I think these check-ins will help me be more accountable when I set goals for my nutrition and exercise, and because I hide the fact that I binge eat from everyone IRL, it's been very hard to break the habit. I hope to find some support here.

I am a SAHM so I understand not having time to yourself. Luckily my husband works nights so this week I told him I was going running 5-6 days a week without LO. Do you have someone who can give you half an hour or an hour to yourself? In the 2 days I have implemented the new schedule I am so much happier when I am with LO on my own... I also have told myself no eating after LO goes to bed, except fruit or veggies if I am starving!
mosy: I totally hear you... it's tough when you only have nap time to get things you need to get done AND find time for yourself. Love my LO, but this mom-thing is hard!

How many weeks/months PP are you? 14 weeks
What's your goal? Either this week or overall? 1-2 lbs a week, total of 12 lbs although I'm not sure if that is too much while BF
Any upcoming challenges you want help/ideas with? I instinctually reach for chocolate when I want something to snack on...I'm trying to cut up apples but I usually forget until it's too late.. I've also stopped finishing my water bottles and I reach for other beverages...I need to up H2O again
QOTW: What's your favorite physical activity? Body pump and walking (but it's too cold to walk outside right now)
Extra QOTW: what's one thing you'd like added or that you'd like to get out of these check-ins? I'd love to hear how others have snuck in s healthy action each week.
What's your goal?- I am 10 lbs away from my pre pregnancy weight but would like to lose 15 to get to my ideal weight. I would also like to train for a 10k and try to eat better during the day (oreos are my weakness!)
Upcoming challenges - I go back to work in a month and I think it may be hard to work out when I get home because i will be missing her all day and just want baby snuggles
Favorite physical activity- running and taking boxing classes at my gym
*just excited to be able to talk with other breastfeeding moms who are also trying to be healthier!

Ooh I want to join! I really need this!
How many weeks/months PP are you? Just over 3 months.
What's your goal? Either this week or overall? This week: no eating out. Overall: to be a healthy role model for DD (and lose about 40 pounds)
Any upcoming challenges you want help/ideas with? Figuring out how to balance work, home, and fitness with a baby. I come home from work and feel like I rush around getting everything ready for the next day. I'm not sure where to fit in healthy food prep and exercise and still have time to snuggle DD a little.
QOTW: What's your favorite physical activity? I used to run, but am going to have to really work up to that again.
Extra QOTW: what's one thing you'd like added or that you'd like to get out of these check-ins? Just some extra support!

Fellow binge eater here. And while the nursing hunger definitely hasn't helped that, I've found myself using it as an excuse to binge eat. I'm all for helping each other stay accountable if you'd like!

How many weeks/months PP are you? almost 20 months What's your goal? Either this week or overall? Overall goal is to lose about 20 lbs
Any upcoming challenges you want help/ideas with? I need to figure out this night weaning thing...I'm tired and have no willpower QOTW: What's your favorite physical activity? Dancing
What's your goal? Either this week or overall? This week my goal is to exercise 4 days. I went on 3 walks last week and I want to do more this week. Maybe add in a workout video.
QOTW: What's your favorite physical activity? I hate exercising. ... I guess walks are nice.
Extra QOTW: what's one thing you'd like added or that you'd like to get out of these check-ins? I'd like to just see what others are doing and maybe it will help motivate me to stay on track.

Hey! I just needed to toot my own horn a little bit. Today after work I made it to the grocery store, my husband and I cooked a healthy meal together, and I did a little Pilates workout after DD went down for bed! And I still have time for a little relaxation. I think I'm finally starting to get into the swing of this new schedule. And I really think baby wearing helped. I hadn't been using my carrier, because I have a cheap one that hurts my back. But I was definitely able to get way more done tonight. I'm convinced I need to invest in a comfy-er one.
In the spirit of full disclosure, I did have some sweets at work today. But overall, today has been MUCH healthier than the past week or so.

We are working on night weaning too! I was just too tired to do anything else during the day and ended up napping when DD did. It's been a month and she is still not STTN but the first part of the night is better. I am trying to get a workout in while she sleeps now.
What's your goal? Either this week or overall? Overall goal is to lose about 50 lbs. Goal for the week is to workout 3 times and go for a hike this weekend.
Any upcoming challenges you want help/ideas with? I think every night is a challenge. I am in the habit of putting DD to bed and having some type of unhealthy snack. I really need to break the habit.
QOTW: What's your favorite physical activity? Yoga and Pilates for getting a workout. Otherwise I love going for walks with my daughter. She always gets so excited.
nursefrizz- good for you! Way to start out the week on such a good note! I didn't get any workout in today because I had to take baby girl to the doc, I ate better though. Hoping to do some pilates tomorrow during her nap and run when my hubby gets home.

AW my Monday success! I got this pregnancy and post baby workout video pack when I was pregnant. I used it a bunch during 2nd trimester (and some during the first). Well I used the post baby one for the first time today. I'm pretty proud of myself. As I said earlier, I hate exercising. So when my baby decided to take 10 minute naps today (she woke up whenever I put her down) I really wanted to give up on the idea of working out today. But I pushed through and did it hoping she'd just be content in her bouncy seat and she let me have a 20 minute work out (she started fussing halfway through my cool down).
beckyrosen-nice!! I feel like starting the workout is the hardest part and I always feel better after. Good for you for fitting it in today, it's hard when naps are few and far between!

Those cat naps must be a baby trend right now. DD had been taking them like that too.
I worked out at 8 pm tonight, which I hate doing. If I don't get it done in the morning, exercise doesn't usually happen, so this is an accomplishment for me! No binges today even though I was home all day...kept busy cooking a new healthy recipe and cleaning up while taking care of the babe.
