So, woke up at the 3h mark to feed LO. Boobs are rock hard. Tried to hand express to relieve some of hardness, and almost nothing came out. I got a warm wash cloth to help express a tiny amt.
I was able to get LO to nurse for about 10min on one side. Decided to try to pump just to relieve the hardness under my armpits, All of 3 drops came out.
My SIL was going to do the first feeding (11pm) but DB woke up early, and I heard him, so just end up feeding him anyway.
Then at 2:30am I woke up to find DH just chilling on the computer while DB was screaming away. It took all I have to ask him very calmly why 1) he didn't grab DB to calm him until I got there... or EVEN BETTER 2) he didn't notice that it had been over 3 hours and PREPARE A BOTTLE AND FEED THE DAMN CHILD.
I wouldn't ask that every night, especially since I'm just pumping a little and there are only a few bottles, but shit I obviously didn't get my extra sleep that SIL and I planned on, so do you think you could consider my wants/needs and do that for me at the next feeding? Especially since you're ALREADY AWAKE?!?!?
Sorry for the annoying caps. I'm major annoyed.
So now I'm wide awake. Watching House Hunters and eating cereal. Of course DB is back asleep so I'm just wasting my sleep time

I'm 3days Post partum. Nipples are sore.
Help?!?!
Get a good nipple cream and use it regularly ASAP if you haven't already. Cocoanut oil can also be good!
Pumping is not as efficient as DB nursing, unfortunately I also wonder if your milk is "fully" in. Probably tomorrow it will be flowing easier. Just a guess. Mine took a solid 4 days to come in.
Also they say not to pump that early, you have to let your boobs regulate to baby's needs... Maybe just try again in 2 hours, considering the pain of your full boobs and the fact that baby didn't really nurse that much, and is so little!
LO slept allllll day today, only waking to nurse and then would go right back down. Has me a little nervous for what the night is going to bring. Lately he's been having longer stretches of being awake, but definitely not today! Wish me luck :/
What did he end up doing? I've had days like that followed by GREAT nights, and then days like that followed by awful nights. Just depends on how much sleep they're needing on that particular day So crazy how every day is different the first month or so!
Just a guess, but when DB doesn't really wake up for the feeding? There are times where my DB will cry out, but between me lifting him from the crib and putting him back in, his eyes never open once. I would consider that a dream feed, but IDK
Where you feed them without waking them. LO nursed at 7, went down in the PNP at 8:30 and at 10:30 he was still sleeping, but I just scooped him up and tried to nurse. He wouldn't latch so I changed him and that woke him just enough to latch and eat. I do it before I go to bed in hopes of topping him off and getting a 3-4 hour stretch of sleep. Rather then me going to bed at 10:30 and him likely being awake within an hour since he hasn't eaten since 7.

Slather the nipples in lanolin, and get in the bathtub to massage the boobs.
ombradellarosa my DH moved to the couch too, it just works better for us. I don't have to hear the snoring and I can spread out on the bed with the boppy and all the diapers, etc. Then DH can get more sleep and be more help the next day. We did the same with DS1 and I have no shame. Also re bed sharing: do what you have to do so you both get rest. If you're not getting enough rest then you're not as on top of your game as a mom, so don't feel guilty! You are doing the right thing even if it wasn't in your plans.
LO just woke up for another feed. It was a long one because he got a bad case of the hiccups so I had to calm him and put him back on the breast to get him to relax. He's back in the co sleeper now and I think he's back to sleep so now it's my turn!
Oh my gosh, how these kids can change from night to night. Little miss took her next bottle, got changed and has now passed out after reclining on her boppy to digest. Going to attempt to put her back in the pack n play. Night and day difference from lastnight!

I'd kill him. Just straight up, no shame murder. I'm so sorry!
Yes, I stick the bottle in the bottle warmer, change her in the PNP (night light only, no lights that will wake her) and then grab the bottle for her feed.
LO gave me a 2.5 hour stretch and then a 3 hour stretch! I'll take that! Now she wiggling around in her bassinet while I attempt to will her back to sleep so I can get another 2-3 hours on the couch. DH has a work meeting at 9am so I did overnight by myself. I'm pretty proud that we survived! lol
LO ate at 11, 2:20 and 5:45. I'm laying here in bed now at 6:25 and he is wide awake. Please, please just give me 1 more hour of sleep child!!!! He gave pretty good stretches last night, I know, but by the time he eats and falls back asleep, it isn't that much sleep in between! this mama is still tired
Ahhh. We made it through the night w/o my boobs exploding. He just nursed pretty well, and pressure has been relieved for now. There are still some harder spots. It still looks like colostrum coming out, though.

Thanks veggiemo, I needed that. I have so much guilt and anxiety and I'm just getting used to trusting my instincts, but when I get worried about safety and things I'm not sure if I should go with that or if I'm worried about nothing.
My LO won't dream feed. I've tried twice in the past hour or so. She keeps snacking and napping. I want her to have a full meal so she'll stay asleep and I can sleep. I'm exhausted now. Next time she falls asleep I'm going to sleep too, regardless. A little sleep is better than waiting to see if she wakes up again.

Thought baby girl was ready to be up for the day...nope just needed a 10 min snack session to fall back asleep. But I'm scared to go back to sleep in case it's short lived:(
We went to bed a little after 11 and then woke up after 2 to feed. Then I didn't wake up again until 7 and squeaked in a quick shower before he woke up and just fed him again now.
I don't know how you guys dream feed. When G cries to want to eat he's totally awake and demanding the boob!

I hate that fear! Because of course whenever I don't sleep, DB ends up taking the most epic naps.

(also, random, boobs are bigger than his head is)
Thanks for all of your help everyone!
One of our funny memories of our first baby (DD) is me sobbing about how my boobs were bigger than her head. I hadn't expected that!
At 5 weeks pp now, LO has been feeding around 10/11pm/ midnight, and then doesn't wake to feed again until 3/4/5 am - depends on the night. The first time she slept through the night, I rushed to check if she was still breathing haha. This is a recent development! We have been trying to keep her awake before the 10/11 pm feeding, which tends to be a large feed. As of her dr appointment yesterday, she has gained 2.6 pounds, almost 3, in one month. You go girl!
DH takes the last feed of the night since he has to work the next day, and I take any MOTN/early morning feeds. During the day, she goes anywhere from 3-4-5 hours between feeds.
Life has gotten much easier since those first few weeks after birth!! However, since I stopped bf'ing, my boobs have shrunk in size
DH wanted to grab a couple of drinks with his boss tonight so I asked that he feed Z and bring me the pump when he got home. I was hoping to do a quick pump and go right back to sleep, but he wanted to chit chat. He fell back asleep an hour ago and I'm wide awake, but so tired. Why you no come sleep?
Second night in a row of nonstop screaming at 2 am. Yup it's still going on. She will stop if I pace the floor, but it hurts my incision. H is sleeping in the guest room til the 6 am feeding. Scuse me while I ugly cry.
