DS2 had his first pedi visit this morning and now exceeds his birthweight, at just 4 days old! But my nipples are torn to shreds and I'm stupid engorged.
Of course pedi's LC is on vacay until 7/8! I did find someone to see us last night, and she was great-- minimal pain when I was in her office nursing and of course now on our 3rd nursing sesh since our visit, I'm back to soreness, even with a nipple shield.
Nips are cracked and bloody, and she suspects a tongue tie and maybe a lip tie. of course, none of it is interfering terribly with milk transfer (since he gained 6oz from Tues to Thurs) just my comfort when he does it.
But we need to wait to be evaluated at pedi's office on wed... 5 more days.
turtletyme hopefully she calms down soon. Could you sit on the edge of the bed and bounce her? That seems to be easier on my incision. bendherova I hope you can get those clipped soon and get some relief!
Little miss slept for 4 hours! She just ate and is passed out on my chest. Going to let her digest for a bit longer and hope that she'll give me at least 3 hours.
So sorry to the ladies dealing with bad cracks. Had that with DS1 and suffered way too long unnecessarily. Please take care of yourselves.
DH injured himself at his intramural league game tonight. Awesome. I wasn't even crazy about him going in the first place this week. So not only do I get the entire night shift because he can't get out of bed, but I now have another person dependent on me to get him meds, ice packs, food, etc. His folks arrive tomorrow and I am going to be a hot tired mess while he's all refreshed from a full night of sleep. And he will be zero help with cleaning or prepping for their arrival in the morning and I have no clue how I will make time to get any of it done while dealing with DS1 and DS2. At least DS2 gave me a 4 hour stretch to start tonight, I will survive now because of that. Grr. I know he didn't try to injure himself but talk about bad timing!

DH put LBB to sleep tonight, and obviously fell asleep while doing so because by 10pm when i went to bed (2 hours later) he hadn't come out of the room. Leaving me to put down the baby, clean up dinner, do the dishes, and make the bed... which are all his "jobs" and took me the 2 hours to do.
I hope he enjoyed his little nap, because if BH doesn't immediately fall asleep after this feeding or the next, I'm waking him up to deal with it. And he's getting up at 5:45 when LBB wakes up. He can bring me the baby to feed after that because I'm staying in bed till 9.
I am cranky tonight. V clusterfed for about 5 hours this evening before he finally fell asleep around 11:00, and then made a ton of noise until officially waking at 2:15 to eat, so I never really got any sleep. I've also been dealing with sore, blistered and cracked nipples, so I really dread every feeding and cry through most of them (my appointment with the LC on Monday cannot come fast enough). To top it all off, I'm starting to get a sore throat, which is usually the first sign of getting sick due to lack of sleep for me.
Ugh I was super frustrated and cranky last nigh too! Must be the 4 week changes...or something super technical like that! DD was awake yesterday afternoon from about 4:30 to 9:45. All she wanted was to eat, have her diaper changed and fuss. I spent a good hour just rocking her until she finally have in to sleep. My reward was that she just woke up at 3:30 so I got 5.5 hours of straight sleep. Hang in there budders
Fed G around 1030 last night in the side lying position in bed and apparently fell asleep. When DH came home at 1230 he was really annoyed because he thought it was really dangerous. I tend to agree and would normally be too paranoid to ever do that. But it was an accident and not something that we'll be doing all the time but he said "it only takes one time." Now I feel really guilty (but I also feel a little better after reading the cosleeping thread). For what it's worth I didn't move at all while asleep with him...
Since 2:30am, I've fed DS2 3x and slept for 30min. (I tried a different nursing position and it's helped some of the discomfort, too). It's a good thing he's cute.

DS1 should wake up for the day in about 20min.
This is me too right now? What time does DS 1 wake up?

I want one of these magical babies that sleeps for longer than 1.5 hours at a time. So do my boobs. We gave LO some formula last night because I was in too much pain to feed him. He was not a fan. We cancelled plans to have a cookout with friends of ours because of the stress. I am completely out of spoons today.

Uh...she Slept from 10:30-2:30, 3:30-5 (H gave her a bottle thanks to my raging headache), and 5:30-9. I had to get up at 8:30 to pump because it hurt!

Have your headaches gotten any better since you delivered?

That was my second big headache. I'm going to likely need to call my OB about them.
budders Will LO take a pacifier? Mine has had some days like that when he really wants to suck on anything. If it's only been 45 minutes since his last feed he gets a fake nipple, so the real ones don't fall off.
We introduced the pacifier in the car a few days ago since he is so fussy in his carseat and he took to it pretty well. I was almost at the point of offering one last night, but wanted to make sure that he was well-fed enough to sleep for a bit. We'll be using it moving forward, though.
I'm a little jealous of babies who take pacifiers. DD considers them the ultimate insult.
Yep. DS took one but LO is like wtf if this...Every once in a while I can convince her to take it for all of 2-3 mins...

DD loved hers, and DS#1 considered it something to be forcefully ejected, with distance and volume at a premium. LO likes it, and I could not be more thankful.
Dear people shooting off fireworks, thanks for waking up my two year old at 1200 into a screaming uncontrollable mess. That caused me to put my infant down too soon after eating and now she's awake again with the hiccups. DH and I divided and conquered. He took DS to the basement to sleep so hopefully he can't hear them down there and I have DD upstairs.
Anyone else's 3 week growth spurt happen early? Hayley is 2 wks 5 days and was sleeping great till a couple days ago. The past 3 nights, she's up and eating constantly...like every 45 mins to an hour. She ate 3 oz just over an hour ago and she's up already! The only time she cries is when she's hungry, so I always know that's the problem but holy hell is she eating a lot! Yesterday she consumed almost 30 oz total!!! She's not fussy when she's up...just hungry and wants to be held. An early growth spurt is all I can think of as an explanation. At least I hope that's it or my life is going to be hell when DH goes back to work on Monday and can't help with overnights anymore! Please God, let my child sleep for 2-3 hours just once or twice a night...

DB pooped right as I went to lay him down to sleep at 10pm, so I was a bad mommy and left him in it. I had been fighting to put him down for almost 2 hours...
So at 1am when he woke up I changed him. Wouldn't you know it, after eating and falling asleep in my arms he pooped again? I felt too guilty letting him sit in it twice so I changed him. Of course now he's wide awake. Ugh!
My child has been fighting sleep for the last two hours. She actually slept last night from midnight to about 3:45. She ate at 10:00, and went that long without eating. It'd be nice if she would go to bed a little earlier so I can actually sleep.
I don't know what to do to help her go to bed earlier. We have a nighttime routine that's fairly consistent, and she's usually up in the evenings for a while. Could she just be overtired? She does sleep a bit during the day, and she's up for an hour or so in between naps. It's just sort of a cycle in between the feedings. She eats, stays awake for a bit, then sleeps for about two hours.

We had to call the cops on neighbors after they denied our request to drop setting off loud fireworks at midnight. Because having a newborn means we hate America and if we don't like it here we should leave. They still had little kids playing with sparklers and snappers at 12:30.
On a positive note, this nipple shield is allowing me to nurse better and I'm no longer in agony. I've woken up DH two nights straight sobbing and screaming from my barracuda baby. Overactive letdown is a bitch. Here's hoping for a smooth night.
I have a poop monster tonight. None all day so she must have saved it up. Of course, I am also dealing with the run of the mill late night crying over here too. At least I saved half of my cup of frozen yogurt knowing I would need a 2 am snack.
My child slept well all day yesterday and then didn't want to fall asleep last night. H was up with her and then when I got up to feed her at midnight he was whining about not sleeping. Waaah.
Then she slept from 1-5. I woke up In a panic at 4:30 when she fussed a tiny bit and then fell back asleep. The pedi said to not wake her up to eat anymore but these five hour stretches (she had one yesterday afternoon, too) are weird.

Charlotte has been doing the same routine as your LO. She does 2 hour stretches during the day with about an hour awake in between. Between 6-10pm she won't sleep between feedings, usually wants an extra ounce or so and then fights sleep. Sometimes I can get hard asleep right around 10...sometimes it's midnight. Once she's down, she's good for 3-5 hours and then another 3 hours after that. I'm glad hr long stretch is at night but man they witching hour thing tries my patience when I'm tired.
LO slept from 11-4! Yay! Now we just got done feeding and pumping so back to sleep we go and I believe she will be up at 8ish again. Judging from the first week, she has improved immensely! I thank co sleeping because she just won't stay asleep in her crib, not even during the day.

Same here. We always start "bedtime" around 7/7:30 and LO isn't asleep until close to 10. Maybe we shouldn't start so early, but eventually I'd like an early bedtime so I'm hoping it catches on. 8-9pm is constant nursing!
What a crazy night! LO barely slept. Up on and off from 9:30-12:30, then up from 12:30-2 and 3-4, ate at 5:15 and up til 6:45, then up again at 8:15. Seems like she will just sleep all day now, as she's been napping since before 9. I am ready to get this day/night thing squared away!

Not early, right on time. The 3 week growth spurt happens during the third week, not after she turns 3 weeks old.
It's one of the reasons I think dads should take off longer than the typical 2 weeks, because they end up going back right as the shit hits the fan. Last time DH took off 6 weeks, this time 2.5 and the difference is noticeable. There is such a difference in getting comfortable and into a routine.
