I was making sweet potato purée for DD today and threw some dark meat turkey (already cooked!) that I was using in another recipe into the baby bullet along with the S.P. So she had turkey/sweet potato for dinner and liked it. She didn't seem to notice the turkey in the S.P. Meat is hard to introduce, IMO. The jarred stuff is gross but I rarely cook meat that's unseasoned.

Anyway, just an idea.
I give seasoned meat. Nothing crazy like taco meat, but I don't keep the meat bland that she tries. Trying to start her pallet early
We haven't done meat yet but with dd1 we sautéed strips of chicken and let her suck on them early on. I think we may go the shredded root this time. We also got smoked turkey from a bbq place, practically melted in her mouth.
I am dreading Aviv's nine month appointment this Friday, I am just hoping she made it to 15 pounds. We switched from purées to BLW as soon as she was able so she has been doing more playing than eating lately.
DD1 was small too and I thought I would be less worried about it this time, but apparently no.
I've been giving her a straw cup of water, she forgets how to use it on any given day though. We still have on and off constipation issues.
Ok ladies, I need some help. DD's poop is still play-dough consistsncy regardless of how many prunes and pears I give her. I called the pediatrician and they told me she probably isn't getting enough fluid, so I need to start giving her some juice or water, up to 8 oz a day! Which just seems crazy to me! She told me to maybe replace one of her BM bottles with water....which that seems stupid because those are calories she isn't getting, then. BM is food. I'm not crazy, right? I think I'll see if I can get maybe 4 oz through the day at different times and see if that helps. I love our pediatrician but I've learned that most pedi's don't seem to know what they're talking about when it comes to breastfeeding my kid.
Thoughts from anyone on what i should do to fix this? Do you think the adding maybe 4 oz of water a day will help?
I'd suggest some juice, because there's still some calories to it, too! You can either get something like Motts for Tots (which is already a purified water/applejuice mix) or just do a 50% water 50% juice mix. Our pedi told us to give LO some warmed juice to help with his illness, and he said watering it down is best.
LO didn't like it warmed, but he loved it cold. He's not a fan of water, and after I tried to give him water with breakfast he looked at me with disgust. "Where's the juice, mom?!"
I shred all of the meat we eat for DS. The baby food version bothers me for some reason. I also give seasoned meat, and he definitely prefers his daddy's bbq sauce.
How spicy is the BBQ sauce? I've really been wondering about offering LO stuff like that, but since we're still trying to be cautious with introducing new foods I worry about reactions and then having to figure out what caused it.
As someone who's eaten food for so many years, I had no idea till I had a baby how difficult it is to learn to eat food!

The sauce is more tangy- since it is vinegar based. I tried to avoid giving it to him, but had some on my fingers as I gave him a piece and I thought he was going to eat my finger.
Okay, that's awesome and adorable. Om nom nom MOM!
How can I get DD to eat veggies. I have tried broccoli whole/puréed, peas, asparagus, celery and much more and nothing is a go. She will eat the pouches where fruit and veggies are mixed but nothing else
I have to mix veggies with fruit to get dd to eat it.
She also will get solids around 9:30, 1:30 and 5:30 .. usually a couple ounces but we've been doing less purees and more bits of food.
Should I be feeding her at these usual times or should I be waiting to see if she's hungry? I know the first year food is for fun but in regards to the bottles is that too much??? It's just the schedule we have created over time but I can't imagine her taking less that what she has now?

DD nurses by 6:30, breakfast about an hour later, snack with a sippy (maybe 2oz in the sippy) at 10, I nurse around 11:30, lunch at 12, snack and a bottle at 3, dinner by 6, nurse again before bed at 7:30. It all seems pretty on par with what you're doing. We want her to be used to eating when we eat as a family, so if she doesn't really eat during those times, it's fine. She's still at the table with us and has her milk to fill her up later.

Ok, yea that sounds like a similar schedule - We don't have another pedi appointment for 2 months so I wanted to make sure that we weren't over doing it.
My pedi casually mentioned that next month we could try stage 2 foods with her.... HUH??? She will almost be 9 months old and we've been doing stage 2 since like January.

littlemissmarla, yeah, we're up to stage 3 over here and I've been eyeballing the trays of pick ups foods that are supposedly for toddlers. F that noise. My 2 year old was eating that by his first birthday. What toddler eats that when they can just have whatever everyone else is?

Babies like mine that side-eye you if their food isn't pureed, that's who!
Actually, we've been doing stage 2 foods since late February, too. He just has no interest in food that requires mashing or chewing currently. I'm sure hoping that'll change and is just his current development stage.

dawnfire My DD is like that too! I think she's a bit lazy and doesn't want to chew, but I was a little surprised that the dr recommended stage 2 next month! I keep offering foods for her to chew in hopes she will get used to it.
littlemissmarla, oh good so we're not alone on that front. LO pretty much reminds me of an adorable, tiny Homer Simpson. "And here I am, chewing my own food like a sucker."

Babies, yes. Toddlers are the ones I wonder about. I don't understand buying a gerber branded thing of ravioli or rice and chicken or whatever is in there for a toddler to practice picking up when you can give them small portions of whatever is in your home already.

My baby won't drink water and she won't drink apple or prune juice. Screams bloody murder at the juice. I still have pear to try and then I'm out of options. I have to have the pickiest baby. I can't get the hard poop to go away if she won't drink anything other than breastmilk!!

@zerozeroone She will strain and you can tell she's trying to push stuff out but just a little dense bit will come out. She hasn't had anything bigger than the first joint of my index finger in her diaper all week. I'm guessing she's just maybe backed up still from too many solids last week?

I ended up spoon feeding DD 2 oz of the motts for tots apple juice tonight instead of purees. Took soooo long, but I think I got about 3 oz total of water and juice in her today, so let's hope that does something!
Thank you all for putting up with my constipation dialogue for the week. It's pretty much taken over my entire days right now since it makes her too cranky to do much outside of the house. It's gotta end eventually, right?
I make lennon's baby food and I am feeling very uninspired. Anyone make anything good lately?
DD loved both pea/spinach and blueberry/spinach combos. I just used frozen organic everything. She also likes pears --- I peel, halve, and roast them for about 20 minutes before pureeing.
