SIL suggested I pick up some of the puffs things for babies. Now that I have them, I feel like this may not be a good idea, yet. She says they will basically dissolve and aren't a huge choking hazard, and I have all kids of FTM food confusion. When are you guys starting things like that?
(DD is 7 months in a few days and hasn't had anything other then purees)
I haven't given these yet but she isn't sitting yet. I definitely wouldn't until then. They become great for keeping them occupied in restaurants and practicing their pincher grip.

I started her with the puffs a week ago. At first she only looked and them and grabbed them that's it. Now, after I feed her purées I give her about 5 on her tray and she actually eats them! It's so cute!! She has also figured out how to feed them to the dog which she thinks is just hysterical. She chews them and sucks on them and they dissolve pretty fast. She has made a "is this what choking looks like" face but it passes in like .2 seconds when it starts to dissolve.
I started solids in DS's 5th month. He seemed ready- super interested, grabbed at our food, got mad when we were eating...
He is now 6 months and has had puffs, yogurt melts, baby food: carrots, squash, sweet potato, green beans, prunes, apple, real foods: banana, apple, eggs, sweet potato, carrots, avocado No cereal or oatmeal
He got a little constipated with the real sweet potato. I try to feed one thing 6 times in a row before introducing anything else new. So far so good. No issues with choking.
I'm doing baby led weaning with dd. She has had potatoes, sweet potatoes, avocado, broccoli, carrots, spaghetti. She has had bread and I made carrot muffins. It's been a lot of fun and she really enjoys herself.

We tried cereal, sweet potato and carrot. Been at it for a couple of weeks and she still just tries to thrust it out of her mouth. She has become surprisingly good at not opening her mouth during feedings. she will cram about anythingn into her mouth but food

Have you tried letting her take the lead? I am not doing full BWL since A isn't sitting on her own but I will hand her a loaded soft spoon of hummus or a pureé and she enjoys playing with it and ends up eating a decent amount. It's messy though.
She may also just be holding on to the tongue thrust reflex a little longer.

I was making my own oatmeal for DD but I picked up some Oatmeal cereal when I was at the store tonight just to give it a try. Mixed 1 T with 3 T of BM and she LOVED it! Ate almost the entire thing. The most I've been able to get into her before was a couple of bites, so I'm pumped! Now I want to find more things that she will eat.

DD eats purées 2oz fruit in the morning and 4oz of veggie in the evening. Also I nurse but when she takes bottles during the week they are 5oz per feeding. She nurses or bottle 5 times a day.

My kid got her first puff around Halloween. I started giving them regularly during month 6.

I don't think it's crazy. Actually I was thinking about doing a little combo over here with just a couple of things that's she's already had purées of, apples, bananas, carrots, green beans.
I'm not really worried about choking bc I see how she's already figuring out how to chew the puffs and of course I'll watch her.
I'm curious who is doing baby led weaning. It feels right for us and I've read a lot about it online but IRL everyone looks at me like it's crazy.
Some people think I'm crazy for BLW, but honestly it's been a lot of fun. One of the best resources for me has been the baby led weaning cookbook. It goes over the basics of BLW and has simple recipes. There is also a group on Facebook that I belong to called Feeding Littles that has been an awesome resource too.
What exactly is BLW? Giving babies solid foods (not pureed) and allowing them to feed themselves?
Spencer has been eating pureed sweet potatoes, peas, apples and bananas. One of the best things about starting solids....easier to clean poopy diapers and bums!

Yep baby led weaning is exactly that. The website describes it as letting babies learn to chew their food before learning to swallow it. The first food dd had was avocado. I cut one into strips put them on the high chair tray. She picked up a piece and played with it for awhile (discovering texture) then put it in her mouth, swished it around and spit it out. There was a bit of gagging because she hadn't had any solid food in her mouth before. Now, 3 weeks later she puts food in her mouth and chews it (gums it actually) and swallows some of it. I have been trying to give her new foods everyday.
I'm working on giving her what DH and I eat but DH and I are also trying to eat healthy and for the most part fail at that haha.

DD has had brown rice cereal, oatmeal, peas, carrots, butternut squash, sweet potato, mango, apples, banana, pear. Her favorite seems to be butternut squash and mango. We're doing 2.5 teaspoons of oatmeal in the evening and I feel like that is a lot! I can't imagine giving her a tablespoon because it really bulks up after you add the formula. I guess as long as she doesn't seem hungry after what I give her then it's not necessarily time to increase the amount right?

I tried giving her the spoon and she just banged it on the table before she put it in her mouth tonight I gave her some rice in one of those mesh feeders and she wanted nothing to do with it. I did give her a bit of banana and she didn't give me the hate face so maybe there is hope
LO eats 2 tbsp oatmeal(this is the measurement pre mixing) with about an oz of banana for breakfast and then 2 oz of puree for dinner.
She LOVES bananas so we can get her to eat pretty much anything if you mix it with that. She had carrot and apple last night for dinner. I will probably do that combo again tonight.
So far she has had avocado, sweet potato, butternut squash, apple, banana, peas, green beans, pear and carrots. I have zucchini all ready for her to try in a few days. Everything has been pureed, but I want to start thickening her food here soon.

One of my twins is happily DEVOURING pureed food. We've done apples, pears, and carrots so far. Neither one would try the oatmeal with BM I made the first time. My other twin is still pushing it out and making disgusted faces. Both of them thought sippy cups were amazing toys.
I love the idea of BLW, but (despite having a 3 year old) gagging/choking still scares/intimidates me. I would rather do BLW though.
My DS is really jealous when we feed the girls at the table. I mean, his jealousy overall has increased significantly since.
I am doing a combination of BLW and purees. I send 2 oz of home made purees with dd for daycare and we do blw at home for dinner. So far so go. She is gaining weight and she is super happy at dinner time.

I give DD the puffs all the time and the mum-mums. She loves them and they are great while out at restaurants since they give her something to do. We do mostly BLW, though, so she's used to solids. I do still give her some purees on a daily basis, but most of her food is solid.
Also, when I give her purees, I always mix in some cereal to help thicken it up a little.
We've also started on soft meats. She got a little bit of ground beef last night and some soft pulled pork the night before. She will eat anything you put in front of her. Her favorite is green beans (no salt out of a can or steamed) and blueberries (I slice them so they are not a choking hazard).

We do purees here and I'm making them myself this time. So far, DD has had rice cereal, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, peas, green beans, avocados, bananas, and pears. I made carrots earlier today so she'll try those for the first time tonight. Sweet potatoes are her favorite so far. She gets about 2 oz of veggies and 1 tablespoon of cereal mixed with breastmilk at dinner time. I'll probably wait until 7-8 months before offering puffs or mum-mums.
I'm sure you all have experienced this but man the faces LO makes are hilarious. She makes a pretty funny face with pears and apples but is always ready for the next bite. She cracks me up.
For those of you doing puffs, is your LO crawling at all? It says on the container "for babies that crawl with their stomach off the floor" so DH refuses to let him try until he's crawling.

DD1 was definitely not crawling when we started puffs. Sitting really well on her own though.
