In related news, I had a mini heart attack the other day when I picked up my phone and there seemed to be poop smeared all over the screen (crazier things have happened here!) Upon further investigation, it was just peanut butter. So relieved!

As I was reading this I got so worried that you had a mini heart attack for real. Glad it was just peanut butter, not a cardiac event!

jlhv1909, haven't done PB yet, but for no real reason. Probably more because it's (obviously) not anything I'd give on its own and she's still mostly on store bought purees and small bites of things I make which hasn't included anything with PB lately. If I make DS a PB&J then she'll probably get some too.

This morning my local news was talking to an allergy doctor about PB and infants. The doctor said that the product used in the study was a British product called Bamba which you generally can't find on U.S. store shelves but is available through Amazon. She also mentioned mixing PB with a fruit puree, sort of the way you introduce new foods baby's not so sure about anyway. (I had to do that with meat...mix it with applesauce, cause LO was like "what the heck is this crap?" when we tried meat the first few times. Still not a fan of it.)

This listing for Bamba on Amazon even has some reviews from people trying to give it to their LOs. (Though one admitted her DH ate them all instead.)

rlb yeah I would just give sticks for now. Baked sweet potato sticks are fun. Toast with a spread and then cut into sticks.

I will say I gave sautéed squash last night and it was so soft that DD had no problem eating it in smaller pieces. It seemed like it dissolved in her mouth.

Like others the only thing I don't plan on giving DD before she is 1 is honey. But I'm not real worried because there are no family history of allergies...and I love PBJ sandwiches if she was allergic I'm sure she would have had a reaction by this point already.

So DD loves apples, but cutting them up into small pieces still makes me nervous for choking since they aren't really mushy. Giving her a whole big chunk and she manages to get HUGE pieces off into her mouth. So, I assume apple sauce is the solution. Of course she doesn't like it. Because that makes complete sense.

I feel like pb has a lot of sugar. Im also a combo of BLW, purées, and baby food.

I avoid added sugar, honey, citrus. He seemed weird with the frozen bread/applesauce biscuits so I am hesitant to give him wheat. Still no rice cereal or oatmeal.

I do all the fruits, veggies, beans, meats, and eggs.

What do you do with meat? Puree it plain, mix it with something else, can you just give them like super shredded stuff?

I think I'm raising a vegetarian lol.

I give little pieces/shreds of whatever meat we're having (last night she had some of my soft turkey taco). Puréed meat just seems disgusting to me so I don't so it.

Try quartering or slicing the apple and roasting them then sprinkle some cinnamon on it.  Serve it slightly warm. DD loves this because it is large enough for her to hold and but soft enough so she can naw some off (she doesn't have teeth yet).

Also if you have any extra you can turn it into puree and mix it with yogurt or cereal.

I'm still so nervous about BLW. I really want to try it but I'm terrified he'll choke. I know, crazy. So because of that we are purees only and just fruits and veg so far. I should add in some meat...didn't realize until I read this thread that we were allowed to give meat at this age. This will probably be one of the only foods I will buy for Spencer. I can't stand the thought of pureeing meat. Yuck!

The terror never goes away. I still freak out when dd1 stuffs too much food in her mouth. I also couldn't feed her by myself without DH here in case something happened for a long time, I think she was almost a year.

it is slightly better with aviv since I know what is normal as far as the gagging but not much.

Besides peas, my LO loves Chicken and Sweet Potatoes pureed together. I have never seen her eat so well before.

I am also wanting to do more "finger" foods and BLW but nervous about choking, and I don't know where to start. I've tried some banana and avocado but she just squishes it on the high chair.

I just cooked this on Monday and trying to remember the directions (I got from the book Start Fresh)

Cut the apples in half and core them (leave skin on) and roast for 20-25 mins on either 350 or 375 (I would just eyeball it and pull them out when they are soft)

I can't remember what 2 types of apples that he believes makes the best apple sauce I will look tonight and report back.



I am surprised how much I LOVE cooking for my daughter. I really hope this helps build her taste pallet and she isn't a picky eater.

You can puree meat. I have let him have little pieces of shredded meat. I let him try brisket when we went to Salt Lick. I thought he was eating it, but he just made a big meat wad in his mouth. He never choked and he kept taking bites, but I saw a little flash of something in there so I dug it out and was so surprised. Mommy fail that time.

There is also baby food chicken and turkey.

I sent a little jar of babyfood beef to DC with LO today. He's not a fan of meats yet, so part of me felt bad sending it along. But DC seems to have an easier time getting him to eat stuff so...we'll see how it goes.

I console myself with the realization that he won't starve...there's 16 ounces of milk there with him!

Yea puréed meat sounds gross to me too.

I'm going to try some soft cheese, black beans, and shredded chicken this weekend. I really want to do more BLW but after our little choking scare I'm hesitant. I think the key is to give only one piece at a time and wait until hey are done with that. So I'm going to try that this weekend and see how it goes.

surfmama106, DD tore up black beans last night and tonight. They're great because they're soft enough she can't really choke on them and a good size for her to practice picking up.

So DH bought some jar baby food at the store this week just to see how they went. Apparently it's not that she doesn't want to eat, she just doesn't want to eat my cooking. She's eating more of these than she has of anything else! So, looks like jar baby food it is for us at our house! At least it's organic.......I'm trying not to be too offended......

@zerozeroone What brands have you found that you like so far? We just picked up the Earth's Best jars. The pouches made me a little nervous because I read of one brand that had mold issues but I can't remember what brand it was, so I just stayed away from them. I liked the idea of jars better, anyway.

DD is one of the older babies in this group (8 months last week) and we started 3 meals and 2 snacks a few weeks ago (3 or 4, I think). Plus we're still nursing around the meals.

I think our pedi said by 9 months to be doing 3 meals a day. Currently he's having solids 2x a day at DC. I guess soon I need to adjust the solids. Currently they do a 9:00 am feeding and then a 3:00 pm feeding for solids. I'll have to be less lazy and do breakfast, let them do lunch, then I do dinner. Boo.
