We're still only doing solids 1-2x a day. Usually lunch, always dinner. I guess I should consistently be doing lunch so we can get to 3 meals by 9 months.
So my mom saw a video I posted of LO eating puffs (or not eating puffs, as the case may be) and emailed to say maybe I shouldn't try puffs for another few months. WTF? Why is my family so against LO learning how to eat and trying to freak me out?

Why do you need/want to get three meals a day by then?
Eta: I'm asking because at our 6 month appointment, they asked if we had tried any solids. I answered yes but with no real consistent schedule and not even daily, which the pedi said was "fine" and he didn't expect that we do more. I'm just wondering.

We don't "need to" but there's really no reason not to. I think I had both of my boys on 3 meals by then. Just trying to be consistent. It's been different being home with DD. I've been lazier (i.e., she doesn't take bottles because I never offered them, she still naps in the swing some, etc...haha)

We have only been doing purees, with the exception of puffs and lil crunchies. If I wanted to try DD on some small pieces of steamed carrots or some other kind of veggie or fruit, possibly banana - do I need to wait until she is interested in picking them up or can I just feed them to her? We have tried to get her to pick up the puffs (which I break in half) but she has no interest. She's on the younger end, just turned 7months a couple days ago.

I think with BLW they are supposed to pick it up. I over exaggerate eating it doc he mimics it usually.

That's what I figured, I don't want to rush her if she's not ready. If the ability to pick it up is a sign that she would be ready then I need to wait for her to reach that point. Thanks

don't be surprised if she gags a little. DH was hesitant to give pieces of anything, so we watched videos of BLW on YouTube first ( but we still mainly give purées or puffs)

We let him try to pick them up himself. Something's he couldn't like bananas and pees. But before we fed him we always let him try for a little first. It takes a lot of practice!

Is there a special bib ya'll are using to make your LO's not get purees EVERYWHERE?? (Mainly on their clothes) It's not a problem at night when I'm home with her because we put pj's on her, but if I send some to daycare she comes back a mess!

These smock bibs are relatively easy to put on and will keep her nice and clean!

We are doing mainly purees and puffs but she has ate bananas and sweet potatoes on her own. She did really well! I'm not sure what to give her next for blw. DH is super against it so I've been slowly doing it....
We're straddling the fence between BLW and purees - LO likes to feed herself.
Her favorite right now is carrots - cut in half or quartered lengthwise, and then cut into 3 sections down the length of the carrot, then cooked (just steam in microwave). She can pick them up and gnaw forever!
We're still trying to figure out a sippy cup she'll like. We have some "transition" ones, but she's not really in to them. She'll take water from her bottle, or out of a glass, but that's all so far. Any ideas?

I really like the one mamanorris suggested. DS loves it! It has a sippy top and straw top.
I haven't really tried BLW because the gagging and choking makes me nervous to give him chunks of food. I think he wants to try self-feeding because he grabs at the bowl of puree. Can I mash up some sweet potatoes and put a glob on his high chair tray and let him go to town? Or is that a bad idea? I know it will be messy and am okay with that.
If you're committed to hosing down your baby, your kitchen, and yourself, totally!

I like to give peas or beans because they're soft enough that she basically mashes them in her hands or mouth, but let her practice her pinching coordination.
Is it easy to suck through? I got DD a munchkin one with a straw and I tried it out and I wa surprised at how hard I had to suck to get anything through the straw!
Okay I forgot who asked about the fruit veggie drops but these are the ones I give DD Happy Baby Cream drops and she LOVES them (I sampled them and they are tasty)
We also use long water proof sleeved bibs by bumbkins that way can let dd have fun and not have to change her clothes afterwards (comes in tons of colors and patterns...they have Pooh, Dr. Suess, Mickey...)

I think it's really easy. The straw is sort of nipple material. Very flexible.
