I think I may have thrush :/ I see two tiny white spots in Noah's mouth, nothing on my nipple except for excruciating, baby has razor blades for teeth, pain and pain really deep in my breast while nursing and immediately afterward. It was too late to call anyone when I realized it so I pulled out our nystatin cream and put it on. Hoping it helps and I'll only have to pump that side for a few days. Nothing is going on with the other side so I'm just making sure it's clean for now until we can see someone. Who do I even see about this? My ob? Or pcp? I've never been to my pcp. Or the pedi? I'm so confused.

You guys- we just had a successful latch evening feeding! Thank goodness those are possible! Here's hoping we can all settle in for a little sleep now. Wishing everyone some sleep tonight!
I've had a million issues with feeding. Trying to EP right now but yesterday I spent over 6 hours pumping and couldn't keep up. I was so frustrated and knew I couldn't do this once my H went back to work (today). Today I started with a formula bottle and decided I'd just pump when my boobs were super engorged. Ended up pumping 4 times today and got about 18oz in less than 4 hours - way more than yesterday. I'm still trying to figure things out, but feel a bit encouraged and happy about the extra hours I had to snuggle baby and get things done around the house.

Ugh my left side. I think we're getting the hang of things on the right, but the left is a battered nipple and seems impossible to latch. Please let this all feel more natural soon!
i had such a hard time with dd bf that this time i plan on using supplements, mommy knows best , to help increase milk supply. my question is, what do you think about starting them before baby arrives? i go on friday for rcs and kind of think i should start them tonight or tomorrow? do you think it will make a difference?

We saw the pedi. We got a prescription for nystatin to give LO by mouth, a zinc oxide cream for a diaper rash (they said rashes were common with thrush), told me to pick up otc lotrimin to put on my nipples, and told me to call my OB for a prescription for diflucan. Plus sterilize all nipples and pacifiers after each use.

I have heard of people starting before labor but I honestly don't know any more beyond that. I don't know if there is scientific evidence that shows it works.

I think I'm finally going to give up. I've been exclusively pumping every few hours for 2 days and still can't get more than an ounce from both sides combined. I'm not sure it is worth the time/effort/pain/lack of sleep.

You do what you decide and that is best for you and your baby. It's so frustrating at times (at least to me!) and I'm thinking of you!
Anyone having trouble...get yourself to a lactation consultant! I feel like in the past 24 hours, things have started to click w/ LO and I. We had a weigh in at the ped office today and I had an opportunity to speak with their LC. It worked out that she was able to observe a feeding.
Even though I feel like things are going pretty well, I feel even better about nursing. It was good to hear what we are well and also what to work on. It is a great resource if you can see one at the hospital or doctor's office.
I think it was mentioned in this thread before but I can't find it with the search:
It is normal to feel significantly less full in the couple days after your big engorged days right? I was hugely engorged on Monday, less so yesterday, and today they are back to being pretty soft.
Delilah is nursing a lot and having dirty diapers (it's really liquid right now) so I'm sure she's getting milk.
Update: no one can be seen until tomorrow so I found an IBCLC in my area and called. Washing my nipples in vinegar and water and a drop of tea tree oil air dry on there and we were just able to latch without me wanting to die. Going to keep that up until tomorrow I do have a nice crack in my nipple that's bleeding a little so that's probably why nursing on that side was beyond excruciating.

And I'm out of nursing pads so that's fun.
I made some APNO for myself with all generic OTC stuff: equal parts anti fungal (e.g., the stuff for athletes foot), antibiotic (e.g., generic neosporin) and steroid (e.g., hydrocortisone 1%). Just wipe off my nipple before feeding sand apply sparingly. Helped my very mild thrush after taking antibiotics for mastitis last week.

That's my back up plan if I can't see the ob tomorrow. But this worked in a pinch and I was so engorged and not responding to the pump or able to hand express. He keeps popping off (I'm assuming my let down is crazy) and milk is just going everywhere. But I feel so much better.

Went to the store to get cabbage leaves and walked out with those and fenugreek. I'm going to try the supplement for a week and see if it does anything to help. If not, cabbage leaves it is.

Going strictly off of my experiences, this is normal.
What does a clogged duct feel like? I feel like I have a painful bruise on one side of a boob. I'm not certain if it's a clogged duct, general soreness, or of I actually managed to bruise my boob when squeezing to express more milk to keep Miles awake. TIA
Search brought up your post. Did you ever figure out what this was? I have a pretty painful spot on my right side that feels like a bruise, no lump. I'm thinking its a clogged duct, as it's pretty hot to touch too.
kaeguri The more I researched it the more it sounded like a clogged duct so I treated it as such. I did lots of massage before and during feedings, hot showers with massage and hand expressing, and started out each feed on that side until it cleared. There was also the recommendation to put warm compresses on it but there was no freaking way I was doing that in this heat.

So it did go away with massaging it out and nursing more? That's what I started doing today. It just hurts like a bitch massaging it. The pain shoots through to my back. Booo.

I had one too yesterday, I sat in a hot shower for like 45 minutes and expressed and massaged. I basically tried to empty all the ducts in the boob including the painful one. Then next feeding I "dangle fed" which was weird but supposedly the gravity helps, and then the rest of the day is started on that boob, it was painful but by night time the pain was mostly gone and then this morning it was completely gone. Good luck!

Fenugreek, oatmeal and lots of water helped with DS1 when my supply tanked after I got the flu one time. But beware, Fenugreek makes you smell like maple syrup!
If you're pumping after the first morning feed, how long are you pumping for? I started doing that yesterday and pumped for 15 minutes yesterday and today. I am wondering if I should be doing a full 20 minutes still.

I like syrup. I just hope it works!
The only time I felt it worked was taking 3 pills 3 times a day.

I want to smell delicious!
I mean, only if it's the real maple syrup smell, none of the fake stuff amiright?
