How do you actually determine it though? I just barely get it tied in back when I do fwcc, but because it drags when I put it on I'm still never going to use it out and about. Kwim? Unless there is a trick so It wont drag

I usually half wrap before I go out, so across the front, crossed in the back and over my shoulders. That shortens it enough it doesn't drag on the ground.it also saves time when I want to get baby in.

Yep, you can prewrap before you go anywhere, and I know some moms will hold all the fabric while they put the fabric on themselves and then tuck the tails into their pockets, socks, or boots. Honestly, I look around on the ground - as long as there aren't any puddles, grease stains, food, or (as I noticed today) piles of animal poop (please be animal poop...) on the ground, I just let it hit the ground. I don't walk around dragging the tails, as that'll ruin the integrity lickety split. But I'll let the tails touch the ground.
You should be able to comfortably tie the knot in the back for the FWCC, but you don't have to have long tails to do that, when you figure your base size. Hopefully this helps. Babywearing 102 on Facebook is a great group to join to learn a lot about ins and outs of wrapping!
Tula came in the mail on Friday. We've used it so many times already. Montana Sunset - no insert. Isaac approves.
Are you using a receiving blanket? I see someone already asked this but I'm interested too. W is under 12 lbs but 24 in long. We've been using 1 rolled receiving blanket but W isn't too sure about it. Just checking in with other moms not using the insert.

astheriapackmomma we're not using a blanket. Isaac was 15 lbs. 6oz. at his two-month visit a few weeks ago, so I'm guessing well over 16 lbs. now and proportionately long.
He fits in the standard really well, though, FWIW. When he's in it, it feels like it was made for someone his size. It doesn't feel like he's in the smallest end of the weight range (if that makes sense) so if your LO is close to 15 lbs., I'd give it a try.

We are like 10.5. My mom didn't get an infant insert so I am trying to figure out if we need one. Ds has really good neck control so I dunno if a blanket might be fine.

I'll have to try it. W is 98% height bit 50% weight so I have a feeling if I wait for this string bean to be 15 lbs he'll be 6 months .

I think torso length is more important than weight for carrier fit so I would try it. Mine is 12 lbs but also long for his weight and fits fine in the ergo.

Ahh perfect tip. I had asked my sil if she had suggestions and she basically went into how much she loved rs at this age. Which is great but I really prefer wrapping...

Talk to me about carriers. I have a k'tan. I want to try something else. I can't really justify spending $100 or more at this time. Anything on the cheaper end of the spectrum that is good?

Are you on fb? There's the baby wearing on a budget group

This is exactly me right now. Seems like the ergo is something to check out. I need to see if I would need to buy the insert though. Ava is only 10 lbs so I'm guessing yes...

I took my toddler to the playground today and wore my baby in the ktan. I love baby wearing! When my toddler outgrew the ktan I also didn't want to splurge for something expensive so I found an ergo sport on Craigslist. I don't have a newborn insert for it so one day my ktan wasn't handy so I swaddled her in a thick blanket and stuck her in the ergo. It worked great while I vacuumed and picked up. I made sure the blanket and ergo were not on her face, safety first!
lawndog1216, how much do you love your indio? I was looking at one, my current wrap is so thick and hard to tighten bc it's so thick and it irks me.
Love love love it. So thin but so grippy and supportive. With a newborn, any carry is fine. With a bigger kid, you want something other than a ruck because it will get diggy if you don't have a carry that spreads out the weight more.
I love my K'tan, but I started w a large and had to exchange it for a Medium and now the medium is too big bc I've lost so much weight. Horrible problem to have, right? How many times can I exchange this thing before Babies R Us cuts me off??
Is there a Wrap for dummies web site somewhere? I really want to get one, because they are so pretty and I'm over my k'tan it is always stretching out, but have no clue where to buy or what to buy.

I've found the BabyWearer forum to be a helpful place to research about wraps. thebabywearer.com/forum/
