@mrspanpan the closest one is 45 min away but I might have to give it a try thanks!
my local babywearing group has a lending library and they often meet up with moms to loan out different wraps and carriers. Yours might too, in case it's too much of a drive. Someone might be willing to meet you halfway.
I just got the ergo! I went ahead and bought the infant insert even though she will probably only need it for another month or two. I got it in teal. I'm excited to play around with it tomorrow!

Just spent an hour watching baby wearing videos, want a wrap for x-mas , any suggestions for where to send dh to find one online without overwhelming him.
So... if you fill out an online review of your k'tan (I did mine on Babies R Us) and email them the link (info@babyktan.com) along w your name and address, they'll send you this!
Isn't baby wearing supposed to free up your hands? My kid doesn't know how to be worn correctly and insists on having me hold her head. At least she's sleeping!!
Can't tell what kind of carrier it is, but a wrap I usually pull the fabric out and tuck the head in and my ssc's both have high backs for head support
oopsiedaisies it's a ktan. I can put her head in but she screams until I move it out. She likes to lean back. Sometimes I can tuck it in when she falls asleep, but she usually wakes up shortly after unfortunately.

This was me today in Wal-Mart with my ktan, head in scream, head in my hand snoring!

This is us exactly with the ktan! Except fortunately when she is tired I can tuck her head in. If she isn't tired though, forget about it!
My baby is so tall no infant wrap holds him, but he's still to young to put in different positions yet. Now, whenever I bring out my Ktan he starts squirming because of the tight quarters. At least he holds up his own head now... For a short while.

Maybe a mei tai would be a good option. I've been using one with A and she loves it. Or a ring sling, A also doesn't mind that.

Mei Tai's and ring slings are what I use mainly with Lydia.
I wish there were baby wearing groups here to try a me I tai and ring sling out. It'll have to wait for a while I guess!
Infantino sells a cheap mei tai, it's like $35 and is sold at Target and Walmart and I've heard it's pretty good. That might be an option. It also comes up on the budget sales page fairly often. My friend scored one for $10.
When using the Ktan in the legs out position (not the tuck) how do you avoid the cloth biting into baby's legs? I got to wear DS for about 10 minutes today, but when I got him out because he started crying, I saw the crease of his leg (behind the knee) really red and I'm guessing that was what was getting him uncomfortable? I can't use the tuck because it's too confined a quarters for him now. He immediately starts crying. I'd love to be able to wear him for longer times. How long can you use a ring sling for? And last question: which baby wearing thing is the easiest to use to nurse while wearing? I learned the Ktan is not it for me....

With the ktan, I make sure the fabric is all under A's bum, so none of the cloth holding her weight is on her legs...I leave it bunched together as it goes under her, and open it up only as it goes over her back and head. Does that make sense?
I only have a ktan and ergo and haven't figured out how to nurse in either, so I'm no help there!

i use a ring sling to nurse E in, just lay her sideways in it, feet hanging out of the side with rings and tighten it til she's in a good place. I've seen people use ring slings up til toddlerish age.

anaberry I also like to nurse in a ring sling. I find it is the easiest (compared to Moby and Ergo) to adjust and easier for J to lie down to nurse (rather than nurse sitting up in the other carriers). I've even been able to nurse hands free and continue to shop!

I've used a ring sling to nurse in. Just lower it till their head is at boob level, when they're done being them back up to normal level. I've also nursed in a mei tai using the same principle.
Decided to make the trek on Friday to a baby wearing meeting about an hour away. My dad is coming for the ride to keep me company. I wish there was a chapter closer. An hour drive is like an eternity for this New England gal, haha. Can't wait to try all the wraps then justify to H that I need baby wearing option #4!!
Ummm, so I'm buying a ring sling TODAY - kaeguri, econmarie, aracale, s there a specific cloth you recommend for a place that is always really warm? A place you recommend I buy from? Thanks ladies!

linen. 100% linen. It's extremely supportive and lets air flow through. I live in SC by the coast, so summers are probably similar to yours. Humid, hot, and bleeeehhhh. I bought mine off etsy, the HuckleberryQuinnShop. She does beautiful custom dye work.

+1 to linen...strong and cool
I was going to get a Maya ring sling, but a friend of mine had one made for me instead...yay! The Maya does have a pocket in the sash though.
I'll post a picture later of how I nurse in the ring sling. J doesn't like to stay in the upright position for nursing (worst tray table ever). I re-position him.

I bought a cotton one, but linen will be cooler. Alice didn't seem to like the feel of the linen one we borrowed to try though. I got mine from Lilpeeperkeepers on Etsy and I love it.
O my goodness the possibilities! HuckleberryQuinn has the best price, but maya has padding for the shoulder, and lilpeeperskeepers has the cutest attention to detail... WHAT WILL I DO?! Existential dilemma of the day here. Is the padding super necessary?

Mine doesn't have padding, and I don't notice...nor have I tried one with padding. Do you have a local group that has a lending library, or is there a local store that has RS's available to try? Find the local hippies...they will help you.

anaberry here is a picture of me nursing J in the ring sling. He is only in this position while nursing...then goes back to upright. I don't know if this is a "legit" carry, but it works for us!
