AW time for me. (tl;dr at the included) I'm also hoping to raise some awareness of the symptoms & how important it is to seek out treatment ASAP.
2 Fridays ago (the 28th), I woke up & something was immediately not right. I thought my left arm was just asleep, but on the way to the bathroom I was running into the door way, hit the wall & then I had trouble speaking. My left arm & leg were numb & very weak. Whatever was going on, wore off (for lack of better term) pretty fast. I tried explaining it to my husband, but he thought maybe it was just a pinched nerve or something. Until about 5 minutes later when it started in front of him; all the same stuff as before but again stopped very fast. This time he said, "we're going to the hospital now." While we were getting dressed, it happened again & so much worse. I couldn't stand, couldn't speak, couldn't move my left arm, couldn't squeeze his hand, & the left side of my face was drooping. He immediately called 911, paramedics were here in 5 minutes.
When I got to the hospital I was taken straight for a CT scan & then greeted by the head of Neurology. He explained that I was most likely having a stroke & I needed to get a medicine called TPA within 3 hours to give myself the greatest chance of 100% recovery. So we started that about an hour after the last episode. I was admitted into ICU & taken for an MRI which confirmed that I had a minor stroke. They ran more tests & blood work & to date, everything has come back as normal. Over the next 24 hours my symptoms completely subsided & by Sunday morning, it was like nothing had happened to me at all (thank you meds!) and I was discharged.
When I got home, I was having some trouble typing but that's 100% now too. So, because I got there fast & got treatment fast I have zero deficit remaining; I don't need Physical or Speech Therapy I go back to follow up with the neuro next week & I'm waiting for a full clotting panel of some sort to get scheduled. Right now we have no answers, no rhyme or reason why a healthy 34 yr old had a stroke out of no where.
I've talked to a few friends from the June BMB & 2 have friends in the same age group that have had similar experiences. While definitely not common, it happens. If you experience anything at all like this, please get your ass to the ER & get treatment, it makes a huge difference.
Obviously I'm benched right now 4-6w minimum. But hoping to have some answers & a plan to get back to TTC soon. We just have to figure out how to keep me safe while TTC & pregnant.
tl;dr: I had a M-F'n stroke, I'm good, learn the signs, get yo ass to the ER quick-like if you experience them, & take the meds when they offer them to you.
