I mentioned to my mom that I slept like crap. She lives 5 minutes away and it's her day off so she insisted she come pick DS up for the afternoon so I could nap! Sweet!!

Here's my random. Do you prefer a male OB or female OB? I prefer a female, but my mom and sister both prefer male. Just trying to start a conversation.
I'm soooo bored at work. I have no desire to do any real work. If I just push buttons, will they think I'm doing stuff?

I definitely prefer female. It might be because I've always had a female OB/GYN, or because I would be uncomfortable with a man (besides DH) looking and feeling my vagina. I mean, I guess it's just body parts, but still..
slurpeelove In had a male dr with my first 2 pregnancies and it was ok. Then I switched to a female and I love her. I feel like she relates better to me in many different levels. Not only is she a female like me(obviously), she has 3 kids, all 3 were c-sections, she knows what it's like to be pregnant and so many more things. I feel much more comfortable talking to her about things, she is also built the same way I am so I don't feel self Conscious when I go in to office about my weight or my appearance. I don't think I'll ever go back to a make OB again.

I don't care either way honestly. I think it depends on demeanor. I have met two women so far that I didn't care for. The last apt was with a man and I liked him much better.

I've had a male gyno and I HATED it. They say crap like, "I know this is going to be uncomfortable...". DO YOU?! DO YOU REALLY KNOW?! BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE YOU DON'T.

For the most part I prefer female. But my OB who delivered DS was also my coworker at the time and he was amazing. Loved that guy. So I guess it depends.

I've had both, and prefer having a female. I don't know if it is a gender-thing, or just a personality-thing. One thing I love/find hilarious about my current OB is that she tells me EVERYTHING she is about to do before she does it. "Okay, I'm going to be placing a hand on your thigh. Are you comfortable? My hand may be cold. I'm going to apply pressure. You may be feeling pressure now. Are you okay? I'm going to insert a speculum. Are you okay?" This was starting with our first meeting, and I'm always "okay." I like to think she asks so many questions and tells me every minute detail of what she's doing because she's sat in the fun straddle chair thing before and knows how fun it is.
That's common practice for doctors who deal with abused women, too, so she may now or in the past work with a women's shelter or clinic that did a lot of domestic violence/rape cases. It's not bad for clients in general, either, but it can be a little strange to give "permission" for every little thing.

I'm having a bad day with the m/s, so I just took a nap at my desk instead of grading tests during my planning/lunch. I'll regret it later when I still have stuff to grade, but I don't think I'd have made it through my next class otherwise.
I'm going to freaking pee my pants because I'm so excited! We got back our Harmony test results and were 1 in 10,000 for downs. I'm having them write down the sex and put it in an envelope so DH can pick it up after work!!!! I can't wait to know if it's a boy or girl! We are also headed to BRU to do our registry so it'll be extra awesome that we know what LO is. Eeeeeek!!!
Congrats on the healthy baby! Can't wait to hear tonight if you are haivng a boy or girl!

Oh she knows... she just doesn't know how many kittens you're gonna have.
I swear our child's first word is going to be "purr, purr, purr" since that's all they hear lately. I guess it's fitting that I call this our "human kitten".

My one year old says "meow meow meow" every time she sees our cat. She doesn't say "cat" or "kitty" or "Bacon" (his name), she just says "meow meow!" It's pretty cute because she gets so excited just to see him.

Are you singing Sheldon Cooper's "Soft Kitty" lullaby to your human kitten? Because I'm totally singing it to mine...

bwettstn and kasiaskis, hug a pillow while you sleep on your side, it will really help not strain your back. I used to get the worst back pain around my shoulders until I started doing this. I just use a king size pillow because I also like it to go between my knees. I got one cheap at Ross because it's not like I need high-quality gel-filled whatever to hug at night.
Also try to make sure you aren't tucking your chin - as I fall asleep I try to put one hand up just on the very end of my chin to make sure I'm not curling up too much.
When I get up in the morning I'll also do a big wide stretch to open my chest again - sometimes my sternum even pops and it feels glorious.
Now that you mention it, I do think I tuck in my chin - I'll have to pay attention tonite and correct it if I do!
I try to do a big wide stretch to open my chest and I never get it to pop, I'll go most of the days with a tight feeling and it sucks!

I prefer female too. I just feel like they "get" it better. I went to a big practice in our old city. I had to see all the doctors there for my OB rotations, but the same (female) doctor was my regular GYN and delivered both my girls.
This time- I picked a small practice in our new city with only one OB, a female. I like her so far, but am still slightly freaked out about what happens if she's not around when I'm in labor. She apparently has a back-up with another 1 Female OB office, but that would be weird. (Hi- I've never met you, just going to catch your baby now!)
I'm sure once I'm in labor I won't give a crap. For now, it's worrisome if I think too much on it though.

Mine is male and I really like him. He's sarcastic and funny and just puts me at ease. I didn't specifically seek a male OB, he was just recommended by a few friends so I chose to go to him.

My OBGYN office has men and women, and they like to rotate your prenatal care so you are familiar with everyone who may be on call when you give birth. So far I've only had one physical exam and it was with the midwife, but for some reason it doesn't bother me to see a male doctor for all this.
When I'm not pregnant, though, I go to a woman. I'm fickle.

Congrats sepiamoon and have fun tonight at your private "reveal."
slurpeelove My dad was always insistent that my mom, sister and I have female doctors and I've kind of continued that by default into adulthood just because now that is all I've known and all I'm comfortable with. BUT I had a great consult with a male OB early on in this pregnancy (no physical exam, just talking through some concerns) and really liked him. And a male doctor did my emergency appendectomy a while back and was great.
Right now I'm being seen by the midwife practice in our hospital which is all female. I really like my midwife, and as a bonus she is pregnant too. It is super fun going through this with her. But I am bummed, she is due in May so she won't be there for the final stretch.

I'm delivering at a large hospital and it is the exception for you to have your own doctor or midwife deliver. Whoever is on duty that day/night does it. I'm jealous you have such a good chance of having your own doctor. That said, with DD I had a midwife I'd never met before and she was fabulous. And everyone I've ever met in the OB/midwife group there has been great. So I don't worry about it. I know I'm in good hands. And I'm the one doing most of the work anyway!

I prefer a woman but not so much because I feel embarrassed or anything. Dude hands up for vag checking your cervix is PAINFULLLLLLLLLL! I had a male and female OB in the office when I was pregnant with DS and I always prayed when I got him it would be lets check your cervix appt. Oh and forget about when your are in labor and a dude is checking your cervix torture!
In regards to male or female OB, I don't care either way. It's more about demeanor and approach for me. I had a pretty bad experience with a female gyno and thought she was insensitive especially being a woman. A female ob delivered my first, a male ob delivered my second. Both had a great reassuring manner about them and also remembered important details.
As for my own appointment today, baby is laying facedown so my OB got the ultrasound machine out because she couldn't find a heartbeat via doppler. The baby is facedown with a good heart beat in a squatting position. And had the hiccups. I'm really hoping by 20 weeks baby moves and gives us a better view.

I like when they do that. It does make me feel more comfortable knowing what is about to happen. I am a survivor of abuse so that could be why.

I prefer female. My SO does too. Lol. My pregnant sister in law has a male themselves him. But I'm just not comfortable with a man all up in my junk. Especially when it's going to be all ugly during delivery..

Last year when I was pregnant, I had a guy doctor. I took SO with me to my appointments, and he hated that the doctor was a man. He still calls him Dr. Perv to this day. Lol I have tried to explain to him that the guy was just doing his job, but he still thinks it's creepy.
