My kid sleeps like crap most of the time. I'm so tired at this point I can't remember if it was ever much better, but I think it's pretty much always been like this. I'm sort of exaggerating to say there is a pattern - seems random, really - but would be something like: 3 hour stretch from 8:30/9 to 11:30/12, then up at 2am and 4am then hourly til up for day at 7:30/8. Better nights it's every two hours. Some nights (like last night) it's hourly the whole night. (Two days ago he had a four hour stretch and I thought, "this is it! I've made it!" Wrong.) So it's something I'm doing at this point, I think. I try things to help. Changing the temp, fans, bath before bed, etc. Nothing seems to make a real difference. We're sticking to a bedtime routine of things to help wind him down (bath, story, song, nurse) because I figure it can't hurt and I'll want him to have a routine eventually and I don't know what else to do. He doesn't take a pacifier at all, which is a tragedy because he sleeps like a CHAMP with a tit in his mouth. I got a book, "no cry sleep solution," or something. Lol, I'm too bleary-eyed to read that shit.
Z will fall asleep anywhere. He regularly falls asleep on the floor at DC and has to be moved to his crib. His ability to stay asleep is completely sporadic. He takes anywhere from 20 minutes to the rare 1 1/2-2 hour nap. Some nights he does a six hour stretch, sometimes he's up every two. I've succumbed to putting him to bed in the PnP next to me and then as soon as he wakes up, I pull him in bed with us, latch him and we both go back to sleep. I've got our bed set up for safe co sleeping and he still wears his Snuza so I don't worry about it. Someday he'll sleep on his own. Right now I just need to sleep to be able to handle four year olds in the morning.
Our longest stretch was 9:45-2. She was wide awake st 3 and H took her downstairs in her swing, which was where I found them at 5:30 when I got up for work.
She never went back to sleep after I nursed her at 5:45. I have no idea how she functions on such little sleep because she also doesn't nap.
@jemomma, I'll try the wubbanub tonight! Last night was ridiculous! I probably got up five or six times to put paci back in her mouth. Also, she has been moving around A LOT in her sleep so I'm thinking that the nighttime diaper is shifting due to the movement because last night she wet through the diaper. Yea. Not fun changing her and sheets at 3 am!

We had our 2nd night of only 2 wake up. He slept in bed with us all night and his stretches still suck but it's better than the 3+ wake ups that we had been having.

@jemomma, I think I was gifted a wubanub but haven't used it yet. How do you clean the paci part since it's attached to the stuffed animal?
We got a decent stretch last night, 7-12:30, and 1-4:30. H decided to feed him even though he fell back asleep at 4:30 because I don't think he wanted to get back up 15 min later. So he fed him and out him in the swing but he seems to have outgrown it for sleep. I got him out of there at 5:15 and we slept on the daybed in his room from 530-630. I don't mind the cuddles as long as he sleeps!

All of your houses would make me so cold! We keep our thermostat at 73/74. Though DH would like it cold.
LO sleeps in either a cotton/terry footed PJ with cotton sleep sac/bottom swaddle or fleece sleep sac or PJs.
Sleep was hell (2 hour stretches were "long" for weeks. She's finally improved. I noticed her start to improving coincided with the end of the 4th leap for Wonder Weeks. (Obviously related to 4 month regression as well). She's an early June date baby.
if your baby IS SLEEPING WELL in the crib please share with us the room temp and what is your LO wearing at night. I.e. Footie pajamas only, footie pajamas and sleep sack. Etc.
O sleeps in cotton footie pj's & a 1.5 or 2 tog sleepsack. Now summers gone, the room is a consistent 68-69. He's just started going back to the long (anywhere from 6-9 hours, with a random 11 hour thrown in) stretches we had before 4 month regression hit.
Our problem is day napping. I cannot get a day nap out of him still & its totally destroying his day after 5pm, he just can't handle anything after a full day of being awake. MH only ever sees him bawling atm. I need nap tips...
Sadly my DS was not a day time napper as a baby. He would do car naps, sometimes swing naps, and it eventually got to a point where we would have to lay down with him and hold him in place to get him to nap. Once we transitioned to the toddler bed at 19.5 months he started taking naps.... I hope that's not the case for you. I did have the mentality that I'd rather have a good night time sleeper than a good napper if I had to choose. Now LO has been more of a chappy nighttime sleeper since the beginning but a decent napper and I still stand by my original mentality. Good luck to

C sleeps in her pack n play still in our room...if that counts. We keep it at 77 degrees and she wears just Carter's cotton footie jammies.

Is he napping at all? Cat naps? Anything? I recently had to adjust our nap schedule because she just wasn't falling asleep anymore when I would try to put her down. I started out by just letting her be up and awake until she got cranky, then try to soothe and put her down at the first hint of that crankiness. Around 4-5 months is when they start being able to be awake longer between naps, so he may just be having a hard time with that. M has never been a great Napper, usually just 3 30-50 naps per day. For some babies 30 minutes is all they need to recharge.
We are having issues with the nap thing as well at DC. She had (2) 15 min naps yesterday. Her teacher said they get her sleepy after her bottle and put her down and BOOM eyes wide open and she's staring at the kid in the next crib over sleeping. I think it's just too much stimulation there because she naps fine on the weekends. She was a monster by 6:30 last night so she had a bottle got in her PJ's and was out by 7:00pm. She slept 11 hours straight, which don't get me wrong, I love but I feel like she should be sleeping more regularly during the day. I'm going to have the toddler that never naps aren't I?
I def think our problem is room temp related and I'm about to have a throw down with DH about it! He 'can't sleep'unless the house is cool, so in LO and DS room they have wall heaters so that we don't have to heat the whole house at night. Well it's just not evenly warm in her room. It's warm by the wall w the heater but not by her crib. So tonight I think we just need to heat the whole house to 70.
Coming to this conclusion finally after a horrible night. She slept from 630-9. Then I had to hold her from 9-12am. Then she slept from 12-3. Then I had to hold her again from 3-530. She was up for the day at 530. I'm so wrecked today.

Holy cow! 77 degrees is warm! Your electric bill must be nuts during the winter.
nope pretty much the same...right at about $130 but our whole house is electric so that includes hot water heater, air/heat, washer/dryer. We really never change the thermostat and the highest bill we had this summer was $160. Our house is situated in a way so that the summer sun does not glare in any of our windows and our neighbors have a huge tree that shades the front side of our house that has the windows (thanks neighbor for paying the upcharge for that tree on your lot!).
ETA: I'm a warm blooded person. I HATE being cold. My DH has a little fan on the nightstand to cool him and because he needs white noise.

We have the house set to 68, however LO's room is generally +/- 3 degrees. I usually check what the low is for that night's temp and base her bedtime wear off of that. For warmer night- cotton footie sleeper and cotton sleep sack, for cold night-cotton sleeper and fleece sleep sack (sometimes with socks), for really cold- fleece sleeper and fleece sleep sack usually with socks. We always have the ceiling fan on at least low and have a small desktop fan on high for her white noise. DD usually sleeps 7pm-5/6am with maybe 1 wake up for her paci to be put back in.

We live on the 13th floor of a 20-story apartment building and they just started heating a few weeks ago. Even after turning off the radiators, I think it's still close to 80 degrees in there. Sweltering. So LO has just been in a cotton footed onesie. When it drops down to 75ish, we'll put a halo sleepsack over him.
So sorry @poppyc8, I hope things start turning around with her sleep soon
We're going away this weekend. Her sleep is going to be terrible, isn't it?
We've had decent sleep on trips. Not any worse than it was at home anyway. But I'm sure it helps that he napped in the RnP on vacation, and he's usually in the crib.

Our thermostat says it's 74 in here...it's really not though. It feels closer to 70 to me. J is just in a cotton sleeper with a blanket over him. He's been a stomach sleeper since he was a month old and currently sleeps 11 to 12 hours at night. Usually wakes up after 11 hours for his pacifier then falls back asleep for an hour. We have fleece sleepers for when it gets colder.

It's a toss up. Some sleep better some worse. The kids and I are staying with my mom this weekend and I'm scared...This week has actually be ::knock on wood:: decent. But LO is usually such a crappy sleeper I may cry if this screws it up again
musicfrk2002, wow! You have such an awesome sleeper! How old is DB? Do you think you skipped the 4 month regression (knock on wood!)
He will be 5 months on sunday! I'm hoping we just skipped it somehow. He did have a couple weeks where he would not nap at all, so maybe we just had it in a different form. He is back to napping now, usually 3 or 4 naps at 30 to 60 minutes each.

That's so great. I know it doesn't happen to everyone! fx for continued good sleep
I decided that tonight I am going to try not to bring V into bed with us. While it was helpful when he was up 4-6 times a night just to get SOME sleep, we tend to wake each other up more than if we were sleeping separately. Since he is sleeping in longer stretches again, I'm going to go back to feeding him on the couch and then trying to stick him back in his crib. My hope is it might reduce our wakeups. We'll see!
I got home with Jude 3 hours ago, and he's been asleep or eating since then. Tonight is going to suck.
On another note, last night he woke up around 1:30, but when H brought him to me (that's right ladies, MH is a trained MOTN baby retriever!), he was wide awake and just calmly looking at me instead of doing his sleepy/thrashy/hungry cry. He still attacked the boob as soon as we got situated and seemed to pass out after eating. But then he was wide awake, talking to himself and trying to eat his toes the moment I attempted to move him off of me. It was so bizarre. H put him back in the pnp and he must have gone back to sleep fairly easily bc he was out when I randomly woke up at 3:30.

Worst night in months. LO has been awake most of the night. He's just rolling around in bed like a damn fool. Somehow he managed to turn 90 degrees. He's almost as tall as the crib is wide, so I'm slightly impressed. I don't know if either of us has had more than 3 hours of sleep.
