Care to throw around baby names?

I don't feel like I need to say this but I do, no one in my house is pregnant. With having L we realized we'll never get to use our girl name that we've had picked out. I loved the name and it's a shame it won't be used. Unless..... I'm not even going to go there, heehe

So now that we've got a slew of new babies coming let's share some of our favorite baby names. Ones you've always loved or your SO loves and you black balled. Let's hear 'em!

So our boy names that were on our short list were:

Harry, which I loved but my wife did not
Roco, which I hated but she loved
Calvin
Gus


The girl name that got away was Rosaleen. It's the Irish spelling of it since my wife is half Irish. Rudy and Rosaleen would have sounded so cute together if we had a girl. But I must say how I love my Linus!

karlamo, I haven't actually even seen Rosaleen with that spelling. I've only ever seen the Irish Gaelic version, Roisin. It's a lovely name though.

If Ailsa was a boy, she would have been Harris Gordon. At the moment, I still haven't decided on a middle name; I'm thinking of Molly or Marigold, both honouring my grandma, Mary.

Ahhhh, I want to play, especially because I LOVE our new boy's name, but I will keep to myself for the time being since we aren't sharing our names. We have 1 boy name and 2 girl names (first and middle for each) picked out. Someday, I will share if/when we are done building our family and haven't used all of our names.

I will say that I love the middle name Barret for a girl (to honor my brother, Barry), but J isn't a fan at all. I don't think we will ever use that one...

We have been lucky that we have agreed pretty easily on names up to this point, so I can't think of any others to throw out there that are currently "off the table."

If the boys had been girls, they would have been Emerson Grace and Annabelle (We found out they were both boys before we settled on a 2nd middle name.) I loved the name Emerson forever and L really loves Ralph Waldo Emerson as a philosopher. Annabelle was L's grandmother's name.

2brides, I love Harrison. It was on our top list until it became popular. My wife tried getting me to agree Harris but I couldn't get behind it.

kh826, have you ever thought to just use Barry as a MN even if it's a girl? We had our MN picked out before we even got pregnant, it's a boy name but one that holds special meaning to us. It's the name of the place where we met.
. If we had a girl we were still planning on using it.

I don't want to use Barry for two reasons... 1) I am pretty sure my youngest sister will in the future, and I would rather her use it if she wants to - they were very, very close; 2) Barry is actually my mother's ex husband's (my former step father) name. I despise that man more than any other human on the planet. The feeling is mutual. My brother was named after him (but not a Jr - different middle name). I would like to use a name that in some way makes reference to Barry without actually using THAT name.

We have one boys name that we really really love and will most likely use if given the chance. It is Sutter.

We also like Saywer, Parker, and Theodore

For a girl we love Harleau (pn Harlow), I have a knack for traditional spellings. It will either have the middle name Louise or Mae depending on what we pick.

If this one's a girl, my front runners are Lucy and Phoebe. Girls names are really hard.

I like Lucy. Whenever someone side eyes Linus I remind them that Lucy and Charlie are both popular names and no one draws the Peanuts connection. Linus is just waiting for his time to shine. Though I doubt it'll ever get popular.

My parents named my sister and I with names both beginning with the same letter. Growing up I thought it was dumb. Now that I have my own kids to name I think we are going to go with that theme if we can.

O is Olivia and I must live under a rock because I didn't realize how popular it is. I had a unique name growing up (it's more popular now) and I liked not being one of many of the same name.

We had our boy named picked out first as Orion which I thought was unique as well. Now I'm starting to see that some as well. I don't care though, that's our boys name.

If we have another girl it's going to be tricky. We had a really hard time agreeing on the first girls name. I think girls names are much harder than boys names.

We've got one girl's and one boy's name picked and set in stone. We're still trying to work out the details on another name for each if we've got two of a kind cooking in there.

Some of the names that I've LOVED that C has vetoed include

Harper Lee for a girl (yes, I know. But I love it)

All a no go from her.

She loves Lucinda Rae for a girl. I can't get on board, so that one's out the window too.

We've got a pretty good handle on a 2nd boy's name, but we're floundering with a second girl's name.

We are throwing around "A" names for a girl, Annalena is at the top of the list. I like Morgan but my wife can't get behind it. We also like Emilia. I love Charlotte, but the in-laws claimed it. ;-)

I like Dante as a boys name - but maybe a little to artsy for us. I love Julian too.

We had discussed naming a boy William (after J's Dad, who goes exclusively by Bill) early on in pregnancy, but when we "found out" we were having a girl, we settled on our girl name and never revisited the idea of a boy's name. George (William's middle name) was my maternal grandfather, and I had told J I felt strongly about using that name in some way and she never really warmed up to it. Wellll..... fast forward to William's birthday, and we were both in total shock when he popped out as a boy. We were both crying, William was on my chest, and the doctors (3 of them) were struggling to get my uterus to clamp down and stop my bleeding so that I didn't need surgery/a transfusion. It got really scary, really fast. The nurse took William from me to clean him up while the doctors kept working on me. J didn't know what to do with her self. I kept yelling at her to go over and be with the baby, and I would be fine. J made the doctor promise she would yell over to her to come back to me quickly if we had true reason to be scared. Well I lost consciousness a few times in there, but at one point in all of the blur a nurse asked us if we had a name. I looked at J, we were both terrified, confused and sobbing.... and I said "William George, OK?" and she just said "OK. And the rest is history. A day later when William was in the NICU and I was stable, J ended up crying about how she didn't like his name and she didn't feel connected to it. I told her 1) I felt very strongly about it b/c it represented the 2 men in my life who I have ever felt to be role models to me (J's dad and my grandfather) & 2) We had already announced his name and introduced him to friends and family and on FB. I was not cool with changing his name. J still says that she isn't head over heels with his name, but it has grown on her and we both agree that it fits him. I love his name and I wouldn't change it for the world. With all of that said, J gets more say than I do for future namings based on that experience, in my book. Luckily, we now have a girl's name and a boy's name that we both love. Sorry, that is a LONG answer to a very short question.

With regard to a girl's name, we will use the name we had originally picked out with our last pregnancy when we thought we were having a girl. We love LOVE that name, and we are very attached to it since it is after J's grandmother who we were both very, very close to and who passed away a few months before our wedding. We also have blankets, etc. embroidered with our girl's name (first and middle) on them that family members gave us for our baby shower and gifts when we were pregnant last time. We feel like we are still meant to have a little girl by that name, we just don't know yet when she will join our family

2brides, I also really like surnames as first names. I have one. And Ellis is more commonly a surname although it has been a first name for centuries.
While we have chosen to go with less common names, I do love some of the more popular names including Olivia and Oliver.
I love the name Regan/Reagan but wouldn't use it because of the president.
One of my all time favorites is Maya.
I love Luke, Jack, Theo.
jazibel, I think Morgan would go well with your other kids' names.

That is EXACTLY the reason that I refuse to refer to William on here as "W." Every single time I see W, all I can think of is George W Bush. So I will always write out William b/c I cannot handle the association, even if it is just in my own mind!

I suppose there is no harm in sharing the names we picked. I just realized I hadn't!

Audrey Hazel for a girl - Audrey for my grandma, Hazel for C's.

Jackson Christopher for a boy - no family ties to Jackson, but Christopher is C's brother, and also her nephew who was killed in a car accident a few years ago.

Boy #2 name, which is still being ironed out, is Oliver Ryan. I'm only 75% in love with Oliver. I'm getting there.

I forgot about he name Christopher! I liked that one, but J vetoed (at least for a first name - said she would consider as a middle name mayyyyyybe). I liked it since it is a combination of our names. I am Kristin and J is Jennifer, so Christopher is a blending of both. J thinks it is too close to my name, especially if people call him Chris, which she isn't really found of. She has said she would consider it as a middle name if we ever had a 3rd boy (since we have a name for a 2nd boy already chosen). I think J thinks we are going to have way more children than I am actually onboard for having -- just so that we can use all of our names! HAHA

We like Louise as a middle name since it is tied to both sides of our family.

For a boy, we both really like Theordore (Theo) James. James is after CET's father who passed away when she was younger.

We've been trying to figure out what we want to with our last names. We have the same first name, I typically go by my nickname. Leaning towards me hyphenating my last name and the baby having my last name in there but going by CET's last name. Kind of complicated. What did you all do with last names?

I took DWs last name specifically for this reason, I wanted it to be easy to identify as a family. We then took my maiden name, and made it out second middle name, so it's not "lost" it's just not used. Otherwise, I would have hyphened and The baby would have just taken DWs last name. Yet, I think hyphening is fine so long as it doesn't create a suuuuper long last name.

cetcar - I took J's last name when we got married for this very reason! I grew up with a hyphenated last name (my parents divorced when I was 2 and they hyphenated my name so I would feel connected to both "new" families) ... it was a lot, and it ended up with me growing up with a last name that no one else had. I wanted to have 1 family name for our family that everyone shared, and I am very close to J's family and was happy to take their family name.

I'm not a fan of Regan at all, no matter how it's spelled. I was at the park Thursday and there was a girl there named it. All I kept thinking was Republican and shuddering. I do like Kennedy but you can't live in Mass and name your kid that;)

I forgot to add that if we ever had twin girls the other girl name would have been Eloise. I love that name.

We have pretty stringent name requirements:

- Must sound decent with my (a little long and hard to pronounce) Dutch last name
- Must be gender-neutral
- Shouldn't be too popular
- Can't be the name of any memorable students of mine.

So far we have Dax and Avery. And that's it. But Sweetie doesn't like to put the cart before the horse, so I imagine the conversation will open up more once we're actually pregnant.

I also like Austin and Zara (though it isn't gender neutral, but we have like 10 important Sarah's in our lives). I want to honor my mom (middle name Ellen) and my aunt (name Eliza), with something like an Ella or Eliza type middle name for a girl.

So that's us right now.
