@soon2bemrsn your collages and themes are so cute! I am in denial about DS turning 1 in a few months. We aren't doing a big party or anything, just immediate family for a cookout and cake probably, but DS loves curious George so we will at least be getting a curious George cake.
Thanks! I'm a Pinterest whore basically.
We LOVE Curious George at our house! We had a monkey themed party for DS2 when he turned 2.
We are just doing a small, family party. But we do have a theme- Very Hungry Caterpillar! It'll mostly be the cake, invites, and a few cute caterpillar decorations.

We did that theme once, too! It was so fun. Pinterest has TONS of ideas (obviously...)

I ran all of my ideas by DH and he liked the butterfly theme best so that's what we're doing. (He's the odd DH who likes to have a lot of input in wedding/party/decorating decisions!)
soon2bmrsn that's awesome he likes to be involved like that. My hubs is the same way with a lot of Mbug stuff. I still hold the trump card on the small stuff though :-)
Yeah, it's really just a nice way of saying he's a control freak. But it's cute when it comes to the kids...he likes to help shop for their clothes and would have the boys in khakis and polo shirts and DD in a dress everyday if it were up to him.
DD's having cupcakes and I'm making them. Not sure I really get the smash cake thing so she'll just be handed a cupcake and we'll see how that goes.
I'm making cupcakes I know a lot of people do smash cakes but we just gave DS a cupcake. He was not a fan. He still doesn't like sticky things, being messy, or cakes though so maybe I just have an odd one lol. Girls will just be getting their own cupcakes though, regardless lol
I have to make DD's cake since she can't have egg. I found a recipe for one made with bananas and coconut oil. It's all...healthy.
I've made the little microwave cakes without eggs when I had a craving for cake and no eggs in the house. There's actually quite a few substitute options for eggs with baking that may be worth looking into.

This my sisters kids have a lot of allergies- including eggs, she uses applesauce instead.
Publix cakes are amazing. They did our wedding cake.
I am going to attempt to make the cake myself. Well the cake making is no problem, I just don't want the icing to look like crap. I need to do a practice run

Ladies.. if you want to make a fancy cake, I bet you can do it!!! The fondant is SO EASY TO WORK WITH! It is seriously like playdoh! I tried it for the first time in October to make DD's cake for her Baptism. I tried the fondant on a cake a couple weeks before to see if I could do it and it was really easy.
If you want a fancy cake, I would seriously consider trying on your own. I used box cake, store bought icing, fondant was from Michaels and used 40% off coupons.. I think I only needed 2 packages. Watched a couple tutorials on youtube. Here was the end result..
I'm going to attempt to make her cake for her birthday as well but this will be more detailed.
I've had good luck and bad luck making my own cakes or cupcakes for parties before. I can't decide if I want to try it myself this year. I was just eyeing the Wilton fondant on Amazon the other day littlemissmarla. I'd definitely need to do a test run! I plan to copy this cake or have a bakery copy it (edible butterflies also from Amazon...of course!)

This doesn't look too bad! I bet you could either get a large butterfly cookie cutter to cut out the fondant and then prop up the wings to get them more realistic (until they dry). Coloring the fondant should't be too hard either and then just using a paintbrush to add the black accents! Love it!

I think/hope the butterflies come already in those colors!

What's everyone thinking, gift-wise? Back around Christmas, DH and I discussed getting DD a Bitty Baby doll (the gateway to American Girl ) but I've noticed since then that DD hasn't taken ANY interest in dolls or stuffed animals yet. She likes all of the big boys' stuff better. We got each of the boys several small gifts for their 1st birthdays, but we already have SO much that I'd like to just get one bigger item if possible.

Ladies you can get Jane.com is running a special on mini-pennant bunting banners. there are lots of colors and they are only $5.99 I might get some b/c it would make a great back drop for the smash cake.
littlemissmarla, So I was planning on doing an Eric Carle themed birthday party for ds. Only I've not been excited at all about it. Then when I saw your theme- instant love and excitement. I hope you don't mind that I will be borrowing several of your ideas!?!?!
Steal away! The circus theme is so versatile and has so many aspects/ideas to go along with it! To be honest, I wasn't crazy about the whole circus theme but since we're adding Dumbo (Disney fanatic) I'm really excited for it now. I also wanted to save even better themes for when she is older. I'm really excited to try and have carnival type food.. I love the idea of the corn dogs LOL!

I'm thinking about a sand/water play table! Hopefully she will at least be standing by then and will get some good use out of it.. lol, she's an extra lazy kid. Other than that I hadn't really thought about gifts, agreed - I feel like we have so much already and have cleared the market on all her age appropriate toys already.

We got the girls the Elsa and Anna versions of these dolls for Christmas. I think we're going to buy these two for them for their birthday: Ariel & Belle. Other than that, we'll probably buy books/clothes. We have all of DS's hand me down toys, so I'm a little at a loss of what to get them. I also don't want a lot more clutter either. I may buy something for the yard.
