I'm not listening to you littlemissmarla ! I've heard of your crafty sewing skills! That must just transfer over to cakes, because that cake is fantastic! If tried that cake it would be one hot mess! I would be on the Pinterest fail sites before it even came out of the oven.

Bubble theme is out to be used for DS since there's more activity related stuff a toddler would like. Now the hubs just says "just do something nice, why does it need a theme?" Um, hello, I at least need a direction to follow, even if it isn't a full on theme. Looks like I'm back to square one because neither of us wants something "generic" and I'm stuck for ideas.

We have a color scheme for the cake, plates and maybe some balloons but that's it. It's going to be small so no real need for much else.
Yeah, I think this is the route to go. I may throw in a monogram just to add something, but we'll see. Need to decide on colors now
I have been stalking this thread jealous of all of your great ideas! I finally have a theme, woodland animals. I'm going to make the kids animal tails to wear, masks too If I'm feeling extra motivated. That's litterally all I have so far. Lol littlemissmarla, that cake is amazeballs! You are so talented!

LOL! I didn't even notice! Hmm...is that a deal breaker?
It may be. How many dirty minded people will be in attendance?
Maybe none? We'll give her our gifts on her real birthday (7/3) but probably won't have her party until the following weekend. I'll tell DH I like them and see what he says -- that'll be the test.
I have to think of something. It will be small but I still like to do a theme for cake and small decorations, for DD1 we did a generic music theme with fall colors (October baby) trying to think of something similar for Aviv for summer.
I'm thinking about doing a monster theme.... Theme might be a strong word. There may or may not be monster themed items randomly scattered throughout the party. We've rented a pavillion at a local park, so I was thinking about doing monster footprints to direct party-goers to the correct pavillion and also get monster photobooth props for people to use in the pictures I take as well as ones they take themselves. I'm going to really encourage people to take pictures and send them to me because I never seem to have my camera in-hand when I need it.
Also found a VERY CUTE cake smash outfit that I want to use for his 1-year/cake smash photoshoot. It's bloomers, with suspenders attached, a bow tie and a party hat. He will probably hate it, but I will love it forever.
I've got nothing planned. I was going to do something small and just family and a few close friends...but my family is HUGE so there goes that idea. But I think I will rent a margarita machine for the adults. )
This doesn't look too bad! I bet you could either get a large butterfly cookie cutter to cut out the fondant and then prop up the wings to get them more realistic (until they dry). Coloring the fondant should't be too hard either and then just using a paintbrush to add the black accents! Love it!
I think/hope the butterflies come already in those colors!
Off to Amazon to make sure...
There are butterfly on sale for half off on Jane.com. I am really thinking about this theme as well..I hope you don't mind If I am inspired by you
Jane.com is a flash sale website. they only have a limited quality of the items for sale and they are usually only there for a day or two. I've ordered a few things from them and they have shipped out quickly and have been very pleased

Ok well now I'm stressed. What month is it again? I feel like I should start with invitations and go from there...
My original thoughts were pink/gold pink elephant/Sophie giraffe. But now I'm like...ehh I need to do some serious pinning.
And this whole "smash cake" or for that matter "actual fancy cake" is seriously stressing me out. I may have to go the cupcake route. Maybe I can get the local bakery to make a large cupcake for her and then I'll just make a bunch of cupcakes for the party, or get a sheet cake.
Food is prob just going to be pasta salad, hero sandwiches, fruit, chips etc... Can't possible coordinate themed food.

I've never done a smash cake, because a baby doesn't need that much sugar, frankly. I either get/make cupcakes or a cake. Baby gets a cupcake or a piece of cake to eat. With DS1, I was such a crazy FTM that I made homemade carrot cake cupcakes because I was convinced they'd at least be a little healthier for his first bites of junk. DS2's first cupcake was chocolate, though.

I was thinking of doing cupcakes. I am now convinced!
You could make a big cupcake instead of a smash cake!
We did a smash cake for DS because it came free with the sheet cake from Publix. I've found a cake at a bakery I like for DD's birthday, so I'll just be getting her a cupcake to enjoy while we have the cake I like.

Probably doing the same. I really want a tiered cake this time.

I'm going to make her a small smash cake for her 1yr photos but I will order a smash cake that will match the big cake for her birthday party. ( by big cake I mean a cake that will feed the 15 immediate family members...so not really big
