I'm still trying to convince MH that I want to cloth diaper. Any tips to convert him? My only argument is "I was a cloth diaper baby and look how well I turned out!"
I don't cloth diaper but I've always heard they're easier to potty train.

I just ordered the large critter cage for DS's birthday this year and it wont arrive until Wednesday. I was really hoping it would go down in price on Amazon but it didn't happen and I finally had to bite the bullet and just buy the ridiculously overpriced cage. Of course now it wont be here for DS's actual B-day (Sunday) and I will have to explain to DS that mommy is a procrastinator and we will have to buy his rats next weekend.

H and I did a compromise. When DD1 was out of newborn diaper sizes we did a cloth diaper trial from one of the many sites that offered one. At the end of it, I admit, H won out and we didn't end up cloth diapering. I was too overwhelmed. I was glad that we ended up doing it that way!
ETA: if I hadn't been overwhelmed at the time of the cloth diaper trial and everything had been going swimmingly, H was totally game to keep on doing cloth. It was mostly about making sure I wasn't taking on more than I could handle, since I am the mostly SAH parent who does more of the housework (H does at least his fair share, usually much more, in the hours he's home).
The first pregnancy/ baby related thing I did was start seriously researching cloth diapers. Im glad I'm not the only one lol. I'm super excited for fluffy baby butts
youdontsay I convinced DH to cloth based on cost. We're planning on registering for some and filling in with pieces from a gently loved stash. Babygearlab.com had a nice break down of the cost of cloth v disposal that helped convince him.

We got a really good deal on some diapers. I walked into Target one day and there were 4.0 and hemp inserts on sale for 70% off. Someone had ordered online and returned and I lucked out. After seeing them in person he realized they weren't that scary from regular diapers and since you just chuck newborn diapers in the wash without rinsing it really wasn't much extra work and it cut down on our trash a ton. Plus no funny smell (I think some diapers smell really weird.)

I'm in the same boat. DH still remembers using cloth diapers with his (10 years) younger brother and refuses to do it again. But that was the Soviet Union and I'm not even sure if they had a washing machine. And cloth diapers have come along way since then.

So after yesterday's talk about people coming to the door, we had some rando that woke me up from my nap (RAGE!!!!) By the time I got my eye focused on the peephole, my 3-year old had already unlocked the door! Fortunately we have doorknob covers that he hasn't figured out yet, so me repeating, "we don't open the door for strangers!" was kind of sufficient for the time being.
youdontsay I convinced DH by showing him how easy they were and then telling him they would save so much money. I also told him that a lot of cloth kids potty train earlier. Plus if you are breast feeding cloth is easy for the first 6 months - breastmilk is water soluble. Oh and the stink of disables is real.
In the end my DH didn't have any experience with either so he learned with cloth and will never know the difference.
You can never have too many prefolds, especially with a newbie. And cotton prefolds are perfect inserts for pocket diapers (run away from microfiber, run away fast)
I know lots of people don't like microfiber, but we have a mix of bamboo, hemp, and microfiber and have honestly never had an any issue with any of the materials. We have great water so maybe that helps? 2.5 years in and the most we do is run them through the wash an extra time or rarely two.
Great water is for sure magical. We have rocks for water.

What is his objection? I showed my H a couple of facts projecting the OOP cost and environmental impact of disposable vs cloth and he was totally on board. Or he was just wise enough not to argue with the newly prepartum crazy lady
babbles IME the MF traps odor and they tend to develop build up and repel moisture FAR more easily than natural fibers like cotton or hemp. But, again, my water is like a porn star: rock hard, funky and inexplicably smelly
I'm sure we will discuss cloth vs disposable many times before these babies are potty trained but I will say that I have never, ever had a blowout with cloth in 5 years of CDing. Or a rash. Every time I slap a Huggies on one of my babies we get at least one of the above. But, full disclosure, DS1 had incredibly sensitive skin.

This discussion is very interesting. I'd considered cloth diapering, but worried it would be too much work. But it sounds like with BFing it will actually be fairly simple. My main reason is for sensitive skin. I have crazy sensitive skin (can't use dryer sheets, most scented lotions, some make-up, soap, etc.) and if baby ends up with my skin we're in for some trouble...
Me (30) MH (32) Dx: MFI (low all the things) M. 10/11. TTC Since 01/14 IUI#1-3(Letrozole + Trigger) = BFN Second Opinion. Changed RE's. IVF 09/15 Long Lupron 12R/9M/8F, Transferred 1=BFN. 4 frosties. FET #1 12/15 Transferred 1 (3 still on ice)
I do so much laundry anyway it doesn't even phase me to throw in a load of diapers every couple of days. Plus cloth diapering got me to give up fabric softener and dryer sheets, which led to additional savings and reduced carbon footprint

My DS has very sensitive skin just like me and cloth diapering saved us. Most regular disposable diapers gave DS a rash so we switched to using cloth the majority of the time.

I have incredibly sensitive skin as well. My legs get covered in rashes from certain soaps, lotions and most detergents, but my DD does not have that problem fortunately. We use disposable because when we had her we were living in a condo with no washer and dryer. It definitely takes work. And was not for me haha.

I think he's just intimidated by the process. I think he's thinking back to the traditional flat CDs that I was brought up on and that's all that's available. Neither of us have even changed a disposable diaper or any diaper at all (this poor kid). I think disposable diapers have a smell to them even before they're soiled and I'm all for reducing waste.
I tried to explain to him that they make CDs now go on just like regular diapers, but he doesn't "get" it, I don't know. He's just perfectly fine running to Target and BJ's and buying a box of disposables.
I found a CD store about 30 minutes from us that has classes so I might sign us up for one in the spring and stock up when I'm there with a variety of styles, etc.
I also just googled parenting classes because I sound like an idiot at 35 years old and never changed a diaper. Fortunately where I work, they offer an all weekend parenting class. Guess what I'm going to be signing up for!

Our childbirthing class did a whole newborn care thing. We bathed and diapered baby dolls
What is everyone doing to celebrate tonight? We had picked out some nice steaks and stuff for a fancy salad. Surprise, surprise, that sounds gross now.

It's pizza night, with sparkling juice of some sort for everyone, since I'm pregnant, we have two toddlers, and H doesn't need/want a bottle of bubbly to himself.
