ljgs1010 My husband was unconvinced I needed a bigger car because I was driving an almost new car and then he spun out on the highway and barely missed the guardrail and a semi truck. that convinced him. Not suggesting your husband should get in a near accident. However safety is a real concern. if you aren't getting good traction and you will be driving babies, that just seems like a bad combination.
I need to convince DH it's time for me to get a new car.
I'm still driving my college car -- a 2001 civic. It only has about 50K miles on it, since I drove it off and on for years and only ever drove it locally. It's in perfect condition, so it just didn't make sense to get a new car when we moved to the burbs.
But, it SUCKS in the snow. My 15 minute ride to daycare took me 30 minutes this morning because I was too scared to go faster than 20mph on snowy roads. I really want something with AWD or 4WD.
How do I convince DH that, with all the extra expenses coming for 2.0, that it makes financial sense to take on a car note when both of our cars are currently paid off, and I only ever drive my car to daycare and the train station (which is 10 minutes away)?
Honestly, I wouldn't go there. If you have a car in perfect condition, with no payment, then what is the need? Plus, something with AWD or 4WD is gong to be more pricy; bigger payment (yikes). I get that the snow has sucked (you know, we live somewhat close), but realistically, we don't get this much snow all that often. I'm not sure I'd take on a new payment just because 5-10 days out of the year driving it is crappy. If space will be an issue with 2.0 coming, that's a different story.
Of course, who doesn't WANT a new car? It's such a great feeling. But given you're post, I'm just not sure it's necessary.
ljgs1010 DH has the exact same car and it's a two door. Is yours? If so, game. Set. Match. Two car seats, two young kids, and a two door car? No thank you.
If he just flat out refuses, can you go the safety route or propose switching cars?
Nope, 4 door, so it would technically work for 2 kids.
We also can't switch cars -- his is a company car. He also drives about 50 miles one way to work, so it's actually important that he be in a safe car for weather conditions.
I'm wondering if I can play the medical angle. I have a bad back, and bending into the car to get E into his seat aggravates it. I'd like a small SUV so that I don't have to lean down to get him and 2.0 buckled in.
Can we like pin a baby recipe thread and have every one share their favorite recipes for food their kids will eat? I know we've talked about this a lot over at the dump but I don't want to go over there.
lfigge, his car is a year old (company car). He gets a new car through work every 4 years or 70K miles, whichever comes first.
@kellykins, that's my concern. My car is all over the road when we do get snow. I almost didn't make it up our driveway this morning (it's a small hill), despite the fact that it was plowed really well.
I appreciate that opinion, bostonmama1978, and that's why I go back and forth on it -- why take on the payment if it's not absolutely necessary? But the fact that we only have really bad driving conditions for a total of a few weeks a year doesn't change that it's scary to drive E around in my car on those days.
ljgs1010 I have a prior back injury that was aggravated by trying to get the infant seat in the middle of my corolla. Between the bending and having a giant baby I was having crazy spasms. Getting my Highlander seriously made the difference.
cagoldi I made those cornbread hot dog muffins and they were really crumbly. Mara would pick them up to take a bite and it would crumble in her hand. What am I doing wrong?
finnaroo How are things with you and your husband? I've been AWOL for awhile sorry if you already talked about this. I keep thinking about you guys and the truth bombs and I'm just hoping you guys are talking and getting it sorted out.
Help me with my post count. What color should I paint my bedroom? Currently it's only primed. I will be purchasing Ll new furniture and bedding so that doesn't matter.
ljgs1010 balls. I'm with lfigge. I'm pushing DH for a new car because it's only a matter of time before something big happens with his and I don't want to be in the boat where we need one and aren't prepared for one. Our other car is an 08 so it's no spring chicken either.

I have one little thing in my review from my supervisor that I'm not happy with in an otherwise excellent evaluation. Do I make a stink or let it go?
Don't make a stink - it's unprofessional. But if you disagree with it and it's bothering you, ask for a meeting to discuss, explain your thoughts, and see what your supervisor has to say. You should avoid being inappropriately confrontational or defensive, though.
kellykinns thanks for asking. To an extent, yes. He's got counseling appointments and I've expressed how important it is to me that he go. We talked and a game plan is starting to emerge. He will continue doing his current role with the goal of moving to another field within the company and I will do grad school after #2 so that we always have it to fall back on.
Hi everybody! JoeLies good luck today, you're going to be awesome! Let us know how it goes. Guster Thinking of you today.
B was up bright and early this morning, so he went down for his nap an hour ago. I was going to be productive, but I've been lying in bed drinking coffee and reading the news online. Oops. When he wakes up we are headed to the grocery store, and then are meeting my mom later for some shopping.
DH just found out he'll be out of town for 10 days (prior to our spring break trip). I'm kind of dreading it, b/c I'll be on full-time B duty, but also kind of excited b/c I can (how do I put this) relax my standards while he's gone. Plus I think absence makes the heart grow fonder and all that.
RE: new cars, it's hard. I held onto my 4Runner for forever (it was a 96, I got it in 2000, sold it in 2012) b/c I did not want a car payment. Once little things started going wrong on it, though, we were worried it was only a matter of time before it was something major. And DH was about to deploy and didn't want me to have to deal with an unreliable car. Enter the Volvo. It'll be paid off in another year or so. I know DH wants to replace his truck with a Tahoe but we will wait til mine is done and we know what our next assignment is...it does not make sense to buy a Tahoe and then move to Europe
finnaroo That sounds a lot better than what he was saying before. Sometimes when we get overwhelmed we say things we don't mean. I'm glad he's making positive steps forward.
Did anyone else watch the Bachelor last night? I think a new bar has been set for crazy/awkward/weird moments and dumb girls. There are some nutjobs this season.
{Spoiler} That one chick who's husband passed away...I'm sorry, but she talks about it like it was nothing! Then she's all "Don't I have a great story? My story is wonderful!" The way she kept calling it a story made me think she was making it all up. And who tells the guy they are dating about their deceased husband and then start making out? It was all kinds of awkward. So was the "love guru" that looked more like she was teaching them how to have tantric sex. Too awkward...especially for a "first date".

I haven't yet, but I'd agree. Some of the ladies this time around are wacko. Hope to catch up tonight. We shall see.

I don't watch it but I heard about it on the radio this morning. The djs were saying they must pick the contestants based on craziness just to add drama. Like we didn't already know that.
Wait, you mean it's not all real!?!?! I like to pretend it's all completely unscripted and unedited, much more fun that way. I haven't watched last nights episode yet though.
