I did not know what I was going to see lol. Hadn't even seen the trailor for it-just heard lots of people talking about it. The language and whatnot didn't bother me. I just thought it was cheesy maybe? Still can't quite put my finger on it. But I will probably never go see a movie without watching a trailor/reading a blurb of what it's about.

A lesson well-learned. LOL. Don't be anxious. I'm just being a bitch.
Lol I knew I would get feedback on this one. I use anxious face emoji for everything. I usually don't have too many unpopular opinions so I was just happy to participate this week.

ladytiffany24, I almost feel badly for these people because they are regular people frustrated with their situations and I can't understand how and why they think that Trump, who inherited hundreds of millions of dollars, of all people can even begin to understand their needs. And he is an ass on top of it all.
mill23, I also like paying taxes. I know that there is a lot of room for improvement in the execution of the system but I fully support the concept of taxes. I also like the concept of socialism, which is really unpopular.
The concept of full on socialism is nice and squishy. The reality of socialism is really fucking awful.
SO. MUCH. THIS.
Like fuck yeah free healthcare & free education & free whateverthefuck sounds AWESOME but nothing is free. Kind of like Canada's healthcare vs ours. Sure, theirs is free but look at the hoops they often have to jump through to see a doctor.

It's not 'free' - we all pay for it through our taxes. And yes our wait times for hospitals can be crazy, it can be hard to find a dr who will take you on as a patient in some provinces. But I wouldn't say it's crazy hoops to jump through. I would still take it over the American system any day. We aren't in danger of going bankrupt if someone in our family gets sick. Or if our insurance won't cover the tens of thousands charged for a procedure.
Sometimes I like all the chewy fat. Other times I want it nice and crispy for things like BLTs. I also like it candied and on top of chocolate cupcakes.
In other words, GIMME ALL THE BACON.
So much this! I will eat any bacon for real because, um, BACON.

I'm not exactly an advocate of full-on socialism, just better social welfare/benefits system and prioritizing the common goal of bettering our society as a whole. Basically I wish that everyone can have nice and squishy feelings towards everyone else and take care of one another. I know that I am naive, idealistic, and hopelessly optimistic but there are also plenty of examples of other countries that do this way better than we do (that are not actually socialist countries).

The American system is broken. But I don't think single-payer is the answer. I don't want huge wait times. I don't want to struggle to find a doctor. There's got to be another solution.
I don't have the answer. But I think if the US congress could fucking work together for one damned minute they could reach a compromise that would actually work. The problem is we only elect on the far right or far left so the chances of that happening are slim to none. A girl can dream, tho.
And I don't think Obamacare/ACA is the answer. Our monthly premiums are up 400% and we get less coverage for the money. We aren't rich. Affordable my ass.
All the ACA did was force more people to buy insurance. It wasn't exactly the "national healthcare" I was thinking. there were some benefits like not denying people with pre-existing conditions but overall I didn't notice a difference expect more cost and slowly, less benefits from my employer.
Regarding the Apple thing...I understand it's a slippery slope but wouldn't it fall under the Patriot Act the same as gaining access to phone records? Verizon can't say no when subpoenaed for those so I'm not sure I see the difference.
Subpoenas for historical phone records are very different than search warrants for access directly to a phone (and the info you obtain is also different in nature - records that can be obtained from a subpoena are very limited). Verizon has the ability to give you those records, so failure to comply is contempt. Also, in this case, the search warrant isn't directed to Apple directly - it is directed to a phone already in LE custody (if I recall correctly, a SW was also directed to Apple to provide access to iCloud data, and they complied with that SW). Law enforcement here has a valid search warrant based on probable cause but lacks the technical ability to actually get the data. Apple, in its more recent iOS versions, has essentially tied its own hands as well by not creating a back door to permit anyone (including Apple) to bypass the security features on a phone. The current court order is actually ordering Apple to figure out a way to bypass certain security features (specifically, the one that wipes a phone after 10 failed password attempts) so it goes well beyond simply asking Verizon to hand over records already in their possession. As it stands now, search warrants for locked iPhones are completely unenforceable. It's kind of like having a house that has been booby-trapped to explode if someone doesn't have the security system code - you can get legal authority to search the residence, but if you try, you're going to end up destroying all the evidence.
Honestly, even prior to the new iOS features, sophisticated criminals knew ways to wipe a phone remotely after it had been seized, even if LE had placed the phone in a Faraday bag (although the Faraday bags are obviously still useful).
thechickencoop I asked MH almost exactly what you wrote: "Ok, so I know nothing about computers/phones/hacking but I think it's ABSURD that Apple or the FBI can't get into the one San Bernardino killers phone. They HAVE to have the technology to do this; I mean, haven't hackers been breaking into computers for year for crime evidence?" And he basically said what daisy818 did. But daisy818 explained it better The whole thing was very confusing to me, but I think I have a handle on it now.
I felt like in the first zoolander when he throws the computer on the ground because "the files are in the computer"

This.
(Is this a trigger?) Totally anecdotal: My aunt in Canada was diagnosed with cancer and couldn't get an appointment to see a doctor to start treatment for six months. I mean, if I got that diagnosis, DNW to wait six months to discuss my options.

While I don't think the ACA was the solution we need, being in the business of insurance brokerage I have personally seen it help many many people to be able to afford coverage via tax credits, get coverage who otherwise have pre existing conditions and were previously denied, receive free preventive care, and buckle down on employers who were calling employees "part timers" and not offering them coverage when in reality employees were working 30 or more hours and should be offered it.

I am not looking for "free". I am looking to pay my fair share, and for people that can afford more to pay their fair share, so that everyone, and not just those that can afford it, can get care that they need - because it is downright cruel and inhumane otherwise.
While I am skeptical about the extent of the shortcomings of Canadian healthcare system that they like to spin, I don't have first-hand knowledge to comment (just as I suspect many that believe in their shortcomings also don't). I can tell you that in my small and relatively rural state in the US, it takes 4-6 months to get an appointment with some specialists, so I think it all depends a lot on your region.

I saw an analogy that I really liked. I don't have it word for word so will try to remember it best I can.
Obama has a leaking toilet pipe at his house, so he calls the plumber who tells him it's going to be $9,000 to fix.
Obama says well that's outrageous, I'll find another way to fix it.
No other plumber will help him and many have gone out of business, and after 2 weeks, he caves and calls the original plumber and says fine, do it.
Plumber says well now it's $15,000.
Obama says what why?!
Plumber says, well it's part of the new Affordable Plumbing Act that I have to go do plumbing for everyone who can't afford it for free. So now that I've just spent two weeks doing free jobs and the demand for that is growing, I need to make up for it with you, who can afford it. So now I must charge you $15,000.
Not hating on Canada at all. But I think most Americans would be highly disappointed if we suddenly took on Canada's healthcare model because what doesn't seem like a issue to y'all (ie long wait times) would be a big issue here when you're used to being able to get in right away.

I was just discussing Mounties with some federal agents yesterday. Specifically, the fact that they are no longer actually mounted police. Still love 'em though.

True. But when your life is in danger the wait list goes away.
I could see this being an issue for people who aren't used to it. Even some Canadians want to be able to pay to skip the line. It is never a perfect solution it seems.

The interesting thing I got out of that chart is that I spent my childhood in one of those countries, my family is from there, and most of my relatives still live there, and I had completely forgotten that they have universal healthcare. Because I don't hear people complaining about their healthcare system because it is a non-issue. Because it works just fine. So why do we only hear about certain countries where there supposedly is a long wait time, when there are plenty of other countries where it works just fine?
And we can go back and forth all day long about terrible anecdotal stories of healthcare failings from the US vs. Canada but let's not.

The long wait times in Canada are not necessarily caused by a universal health care system. There are other issues such as brain drain, retiring baby boomers, immigration policy, and lack of spots to train new doctors in university. These would be there regardless of how we paid for our health care.
