C has been using my boob as a pacifier all effing day. She isn't hungry, just wants it in her mouth then milk goes everywhere. Help!
Will she take a pacifier? I'm trying not to be a human pacifier this time, so I'm urging K to take one even after I nurse her. She will take it and it has helped cut down on boob time since she's really efficient at nursing.

We are still struggling with latch and using a nipple shield so I was trying not to give her one yet.

I've been doing what jewel said with the side lying nursing and co sleeping. I said when I was pregnant he would be in his crib in his own room after the first couple weeks ha! I'm nervous with him sleeping in the rock n play by me. I know he needs to sleep by himself though. I was so nervous the pediatrician was going to ask where he slept at his appointment a couple days ago, but he didn't. LO seems to be doing well though. He feeds around 10:30, 1:00, and 4 or 5 for the nighttime feeds. I'm sure that will be different once we move him to sleep on his own.

Ya i am trying not to make a habit of it, but if she won't settle or is waking up too much... She slept with us for 2 hrs last night after waking up just an hour after a good feed and she wouldn't go back down. She latched for like 1 min and then we went to sleep like that (and woke up covered in milk bc my boob was out). Mostly she sleeps in the arms reach but I feel safe with her in the bed, just have to watch the covers.
We aren't planning to move her into her own room for awhile though... When we get to TX. We will all definitely be in the same room at my parents beach house so no rush since we would just have to move her back in June.
Today we went to a feeding support group and it was so great! Even if you don't have issues its just nice to be with other moms and babies and be out of the house. We even went out to lunch after! Definitely will be going back. It's at this hospital/birth center/doula training center, but it's totally free and you don't need to be a patient there or anything. Today was just "led" by a doula but on Tuesdays they have an LC lead it and on Weds they have a more general mom's group. It was super informal. They gave me a calendar and there is something everyday, and all free! So nice!
If you are on the fence about going to one definitely go!!

Ours is every Wednesday morning. It's my time and I make sure I go every week regardless of whether I having issues. It's so nice to get out and talk to people.
I don't know how you ladies sleep with LO in the room. K is the loudest sleeper ever. Even her breathing is like a freight train.
I'm really struggling with this. A is such a loud sleeper, but it's sharing with us or sharing with her brother, so I don't really have a choice. I'm hoping I just get used to her sleep noises. I'm planning to move her when she outgrows the Rock and play.

I find the noises reassuring. When she is too quiet I freak. But H is also a snorer and I sleep though that too

My left boob is being stupid. It has started leaking more and now after every feeding my boob hurts and has a burning/tingling sensation for the next 30 minutes or so. It's not red or firm, and I don't have any lumps or bumps. So I'm not sure what's going on. My nipple on that side is also super tender again which is weird because like three days ago nothing hurt at all.
@pugsandwine - have you only tried one brand of pacifier? Sometimes babies won't take one brand but they'll take another. We're a NUK family - I especially like the 0-2 month size they have for newborns.
C is feeding really well, but it HURTS. I hear swallowing, his latch feels deep, his nurses say it looks good, but it HURTS. Of course, no LC on the weekends.
Planning on seeing her Monday, but I think I have another lip tie baby. Lamesauce.
C is gone for his hearing test. Looking forward to hearing what his weight is now. How much has he lost?
How do you guys get to the point of pumping for a supply of milk? I can't keep up with him as it is, let alone have extra to store for future/when I'm out/whatever... How?

I pump after I feed him in the morning. I also try to pump whenever he gets a bottle to keep my supply up. Sometimes I squeeze in a session during naptime.

I am struggling with this, too - again, for the 3rd time. My kiddos are born early and jaundiced, so they push to supplement in the hospital and nursing is never really the same. I am nursing, supplementing, and pumping, but my body doesn't really respond to the pump and I don't get more than 2 ounces. She ok at nursing now but it's more of a comfort and she falls asleep after a few minutes of sucking. I am close to EPing since the process is so long and I have 2 other littles and need sleep. Is your LO nursing or are you EPing?

Trying to do both. I pump for one of the late night feedings so Mr Pugs can take that one and usually once in the afternoon - both of which he very promptly eats.

I'm a newbie, so take this with a grain of salt, but from the books I've read and meetings I've been to, they really encourage you to do all the night feedings yourself, on the bewb, until 6 (or better yet 8) weeks to maximize your milk supply.
After the first couple of months, your body sort of normalizes your supply, so it's hard to make more or less. Supposedly it's better for your body to make as much milk as it can if you're only going 4 hours between feedings (hence doing all the night feedings yourself).
I'm holding out to 8 weeks and then looking forward to MH being able to do a night feeding, at least a couple of nights a week! For now, I do all the night feedings myself on the boob and I only pump every other day. I do it the mid-morning, after she's eaten twice and then I've waited an hour at least since the last feeding. I can usually get 3-4 oz per boob at that point. One gets used as a practice bottle sometime during that day and the other goes in the freezer towards my go-back-to-work stash.

I have yet to pump. As far as I'm concerned, there's no need for it yet. DD is only 2 weeks old. I'll try in another week or so, but I want to make sure she's above birth weight at her appointment on Tuesday and I am in a good place with supply.
Her feelings take forever. I nurse for a max of 30 min or however long she will tolerate the boob. Next, if she's still hungry (which she always is), I give her a bottle of pumped milk or formula. Finally, I pump for 15 min. I change her diaper several times because she poops constantly. It's easily a 2 hour endeavor. I've been trying to pump while bottle feeding, which helps. If I have H help give her a bottle, I still pump. I never skip a feeding. My supply is still shitty, even though I'm nursing and pumping for every feeding. It's so frustrating. I'm wildly jealous of you mommas who have an easy time with breastfeeding or who have a good supply!

I've pumped the past couple nights about 9:00 when I go up to bed. The IL's are staying so they enjoy watching the baby while we get a couple hours to shower, relax and sleep. They give a bottle during that time. Then around 11pm I start the "night feeds." It seems to be working well, but granted its only been a couple nights. I'm making enough for them to give a bottle then put 2-3oz in the freezer. I wait 30 minutes to an hour after feeding to pump.

+1 to hospital issues with supplementing and now things being a bit of a mess. Slight jaundice, big baby who needed to increase glucose levels. Right now I'm getting about 1/2 ounce pumping. He's been on a boob strike today and screamed when I tried to have him nurse. Cue hot mess of a mom.

Hey ladies, is it ok if I join in? I nursed Isaac for 10 mos no issues aside from thrush a few times. Evie is 2 days old now and has had some issues. When she first latched right after birth it was for a good 40 min and her latch was perfect. Then throughout the day, it was very pinchy. I had the LC help.me at the hospital and since her latch has improved but is still narrow. With Isaac he nursed for 40-min to an hour at every feed. Evie is only nursing 15-25 min each time.
Should I be concerned? Do I need to feed her more often instead of 2-3 hours? She is getting some big gulps and swallows. I had a good supply of colostrum and I am starting to have my milk come in.

You may just have a fast eater. I've asked an LC and the pediatrician about my LOs quick eating. He eats in about 10 minutes or less. His weight when he was born was 7 pounds, 11 ounces. At four weeks, he was 10 pounds, 2 ounces. Bottomline, don't watch the clock. Some babies can empty a boob in five minutes. And I've noticed that that when I pump, I've been gettig about three to four ounces from each side in 10 minutes, and babies are more efficient than the pump. As long as she's gaining weight and having enough wet and dirty diapers, then the length of feedings shouldn't matter too much.

Whoa. I get four oz total on a really spectacular pump. Usually closer to three...
