Whelp goodbye dairy. E has been increasingly fussy and gassy over the last week. Today he woke up super stuffy. All signs of a milk protein intolerance. His big sister had the same thing and it started at about 2 weeks as well. Off to the store today to pick up probiotics today to see if that will help him out too.

I'll see you in 2017 dairy
I'm sorry! We had this problem last time too. I keep waiting for it again.

I'm not 100% sure that's what it is because his poop is still the right color. All the other symptoms are there... I'm going to start him on probiotics and see if that helps him first.
Hey ladies, is it ok if I join in? I nursed Isaac for 10 mos no issues aside from thrush a few times. Evie is 2 days old now and has had some issues. When she first latched right after birth it was for a good 40 min and her latch was perfect. Then throughout the day, it was very pinchy. I had the LC help.me at the hospital and since her latch has improved but is still narrow. With Isaac he nursed for 40-min to an hour at every feed. Evie is only nursing 15-25 min each time.
Should I be concerned? Do I need to feed her more often instead of 2-3 hours? She is getting some big gulps and swallows. I had a good supply of colostrum and I am starting to have my milk come in.
I bet you just have a fast eater. My first daughter was a good nurser but took a long time the first few weeks. My new LO was really efficient from the start. I hear her taking big gulps and her weight gain is stellar so I'm going to consider myself lucky
isolemnlyswear, I was gonna say, if his poops are still yellow, you're probably ok!
songbirdsinging55, my LO eats 12 minutes/feeding on one side or 5-7 minutes on both sides and has since birth. She's just efficient! She also gets burpy and gassy because of it, since she's gulping, but as long as your LO is gaining weight back and your doctor is happy with it, I wouldn't worry.

songbirdsinging55 I don't think you need to be concerned. All babies are different. Baby girl is much faster than my boys were. DS1 would nurse for over half hour on one side. DS2 was usually around 20 minutes on one side. DD is done in 10 minutes on one side. I just thank my lucky stars. In the first couple days she was closer to 20 minutes, so don't be surprised if your DD cuts her sessions down even more.

I'm glad this came up because I had just started worrying that C wasn't nursing long enough.
We just had an epic boob spraying incident. LO was nursing, unlatches and it just keeps coming, spraying everywhere I totally drenched her, the Boppy, myself. And it's just shooting out not like dripping, like a squirt gun. Lol

This has happened to me with my boys. I tried to relatch as fast as I could to avoid the mess haha.

Ladies, I just really need some support. I'm feeling like a total failure at the whole BF thing. I am doing everything the LC is suggesting, different positions, clipping LO's tongue tie, etc and it is still so painful! It really shouldn't be this complicated. I've been pain every day for the past month and I'm so over it. I feel like this is my most important job right now and I'm sucking at it.

All the hugs. You definitely don't suck at it!! And whatever you do you are not failing. When did LO get the tie clipped? Could the pain be because you are healing? I hope it gets easier. Do you have a BF support group nearby? It could be a good place to get extra support. For the pain have you tried the Medela gel pads? I'm sure you have but just in case I will mention them. They felt amazing for me! Does the LC recommend a shield to help you heal some? I hope things get easier. We are here for you! Hugs again!

rosetyler72, all the hugs to you. You are doing the most important job and that's being a wonderful mom who only wants the best for your LO. I think you've already been given some good advice, but I'm definitely here for support if you need it.

I have the PISA, besides that and bottles what do I need to start pumping? Storage bags, etc?
Everything @thecoffeeninga said. I would also add rubbing a little coconut oil into the flange before pimping really helps lubricate it and is so much more comfortable.

rosetyler72 sometimes I think we are the same person from your posts. Im just now getting to the point where BF doesn't hurt ALL the time. The new pillow I got really helped position her so she has a pretty good latch. Even then we have bad days and my problems with oversupply dont help the situation.
Can you pump for a day or two to give yourself a break? When it was super painful in the beginning i did this and it helped me regroup and refocus so I wasn't on the verge of tears when nursing. Even now I give myself a time limit to nurse. As soon as MH is home the boob bar is closed. We feed her pumped milk bottles and this allows me to take a much needed break. I pump right before I go to bed and then nurse again beginning in the MOTN. It may only be for a few hours but it has seriously saved my sanity.
Do you have a breastfeeding support group near you? Can you ask the hospital if they can recommend one? The one I go to is very helpful and supportive. They are what have kept me going on the really bad days.

Seconding that the my breast friend kicks the boppy's butt.

We do a bottle of bm once, sometimes twice a day, and I can second how much of a sanity saver it's been. Also gives daddy a chance to feed. Not for everyone, but really worked for us (and my nips)
rosetyler72, have you tried a nipple shield? I have super sensitive nipples and I was in pain after first feeding in the delivery room. I asked for a nipple shield right away, and it's been a tremendous help. I put coconut oil on my nips a few times a day, too. I also second seeing another LC. I didn't like any of the hospital ones and I just got a recommendation from a friend who had success after a rough start. I'm hoping it helps!
We have got to do a bottle. I'm going to try to do it tonight. I've been too lazy to do on each so far but she's four weeks old today so I don't want to put it off any longer.

Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions everyone, I appreciate all the advice and commiseration. We did a few things yesterday to see if they help. -DS got his tongue tie clipped, again. Apparently it had re-attached with scar tissue. I feel terrible because every time we take him to the pedi we are clipping or cutting something on him it seems like. This time it was mostly scar tissue so he didn't even seem to notice. -The correct size flanges for my breast pump come on Friday so I'll see if pumping to replace a feed works for us or not. I had been pumping a little with the wrong size and I think it has been making my nipples worse so I'm going to wait for the smaller ones. -I have been going to the BF support group at our hospital and have met with 2 LC and a nurse who specializes in BF too. They have been helpful and it is not as painful as it used to be, but it felt like it was getting better for a while and then started hurting a lot again so I am frustrated that it might never be comfortable. -I got All Purpose Nipple Ointment in case there was thrush or a bacterial infection on top of the latch issues so we'll see if that helps. That stuff must be made of pure gold, it cost us $70 for a tiny tube of it and our insurance doesn't work at the only compounding pharmacy in town so it was all out of pocket, but honestly I don't care. I'm willing to try anything at this point to make BF work.
TL;DR- Thanks for the suggestions, I have a few new things to try that might help.

Thank you ladies for easing my fears of Evie's quick nursing. We had her check up today and she gained weight since her birth. She apparently is very efficient in her eating. They gave me a nipple shield to use while the cracks heal.

I feel like this has been asked before but on Tapatalk this thread is 40 pages... sooooo, prickly painful feeling on letdown. Normal? Can it be a sign of thrush? It is more pronounced on one side than on the other.
