The bottle went well! My husband gave her 2.5 oz. I was surprised that I pumped 5.5 oz in the evening and it only took about 10 minutes. I just put the extra in the freezer to get a stash started.

For those who have freezer stashes, don't forget to rotate them. Your milk changes as baby grows so newborn milk may not be sufficient for a 6 month old.

And also, you don't need a huge freezer stash. I always pumped milk for the next day, froze Friday's milk, and did thawed milk on Monday. So you shouldn't need to dip into the freezer stash unless it's an emergency. I had to dip into it a couple of days when I was recovering from a stomach bug and wasn't pumping enough. I usually pumped a few extra ounces at work so I did end up with a decent stash that way, though when LO #1 turned one she refused bottles and wouldn't use cups so I had a bunch of frozen milk I couldn't use. I donated 250 ounces to a preemie mom.

I still am tracking all of K's feedings and diapers, and I noticed at exactly 7 minutes into most feedings, she unlatches. She'll keep acting like she's hungry and relatch, but it then turns into a game of unlatching and relatching. I don't like it. I would think she is done, but there's no way she's done in 7 minutes...

Does she have gas? I've noticed if D pulls off and tries to relatch back and forth, he needs a good burp and he's ready to go again.

A is completely refusing to latch on my left side since last night. And the more engorged I get, the worse it gets. I finally ran home from work to grab my pump and pumped 4 oz in 4 minutes on that side. Hopefully that helps. She was doing so great and now I'm getting frustrated again.

Sometimes she does, and I do burp her and she goes back to eating. But sometimes not. Typically she doesn't want to eat anymore after burping even though I offer.
Baby max favors the right boob more. And when he is on the left boob he pinches the nipple and ouch it's not fun. We try to relatch and that takes awhile because he'll get mad or just doze on and off
I still wish that I could get more supply when I pump. I don't pump as much as I like because I rather put him on. But, I am pumping a few times a day and only get about 2oz each time. I get more milk from the right then the left. A little frustrating.

A prefers my left side. I don't think she gets much from righty. Obviously, that's not an issue with you since you had such a good pumping session. Hopefully relieving the engorgement will help her.

I'm right there with you. I pump after every feeding and I will only get an ounce to and ounce and a half total. I'm jealous when I hear of women getting several ounces from each side and building a nice stash.

This explains my LO exactly. I offer the side 3x and if she unlatches a third time I switch sides. If it happens again on the second side I know she's trying to comfort nurse but gets frustrated because I have so much milk. I end up giving her a paci and rocking her and she calms right down.
Your LO could be super efficient at nursing and if you have a good supply she may be getting a lot more at a time then you think.

But your pumping right AFTER you feed. So LO is getting ounces directly from the boob and you are still able to pump an ounce or two out. That's actually really great output!

This is normal. I've never got the same amount from both sides, sometime getting double from one than the other. Strange but that's just how it is sometimes.
Oh good, I thought something was wrong with me. With my first I don't remember this happening.

I try to do it right after but sometimes I'll pump when LO is napping. I hear of the other moms pumping a ton, I feel a little discouraged.

With my first I was pouring out with milk. Currently, I don't even leak or need my nursing pads. It's been an interesting experience because I just assumed that I'd have s hood supply. I'm just trying to stick with it.
We finally offered DS2 his first bottle today. This morning, he would have nothing to do with it, and DH was grouchy that we'd waited too long to introduce the bottle. I ended up just nursing him. We ran some errands and after getting home, I make a phone call and DS2 is hungry again - DH grabs the bottle and the kid takes it, no problem. Thank God!

I should clarify that I supplement an ounce or two after nursing because she will only tolerate nursing for a certain amount of time, so she's not completely emptying the breasts. We are working on that! But yeah, I guess I am making just enough to feed her if she were a more efficient nurser. Thanks for the encouragement!

I pumped for the first time today since we found out H has a formal event on April 23rd that we'll need to get a sitter for. I pumped 4 oz. in 15 minutes, so I guess my supply is decent. She took only 2 oz. of it, so we have some left to do a bottle tomorrow. Maybe 1 bottle a day or every other day to make sure she'll keep taking it. I didn't think it would be a problem though since she takes a pacifier. Success!

Those of you building a freezer stash- What volume of milk do you freeze per bag? Do you fill it up or just freeze a few ounces so you can thaw only what you need? I've been only freezing 2-3 per bag (because that's all I can get) but it feels like a waste of bags.

For now I would only freeze 3oz or so per bag because he will only be getting one bottle a day until I return to work. After I go back to work I will freeze more per bag - maybe 6oz? I can't remember - because I will be making multiple bottles for him each day. At least that's what I did with DS1. But you don't want to overfill the bags because I believe it increases the risk that a bag will leak when being thawed.

Depending on how much I pumped, I freeze 2, 3, and 4 oz bags at this point. I do small volumes for fear of wasting milk. I can start with a 2 oz bag and if he's still hungry, give him another 2 oz bag. Whereas, if I start with 4 oz or more, he may only eat 1 or 2. Plus, smaller volumes make it easier for me to store.

I do 2-4 ounces a bag. We did three 3.5 ounce bottles each day. I froze a lot of bags in 3.5 ounce increments but sometimes needed different amounts depending on how I was combining milk.

When I pump my milk pretty much stops flowing after 5 minutes or so and if I do get a second letdown it's only 30-60 seconds long. I probably average an ounce per side per session (and I usually pump about 2 hours after a feeding). Anything I can do to increase output? This is about the same thing that happened with DD as well and I had to supplement after a month or two back at work because of pumping inefficiency.

Can you pump immediately after nursing her to try to increase your supply?
You have the Spectra, right? What are your settings? I increased the speed on mine and started getting more. Do you change the settings while you pump? Sometimes if you change it to slower with a stronger suction and then less suction with a faster speed it encourages letdown.

Breast compressions while pumping, power pumping, double checking breast shield size, adjusting suction on pump (up or down, as long as it's comfortable). I never noticed a change in supply based on eating certain types of food or water intake (except that if I lost too much weight from reduced calories my supply would drop), but did have an appreciable increase when drinking Mother's Milk Tea with each pump session.

Oooh, I will play with the settings! I played with the suction a bit but that just made it painful. Still like it better than my Medela!

+1 To all this.
I'll also add oatmeal and water. So much water. Like your pee is clear because you are drinking so much water.
peachesncream you can pump at the same time your2 are nursing to help increase. But definitely pump immediately after nursing. It will take a bit, but it will help your supply.
