B has a weight check today. I plan on talking to our pedi today about this triple feeding schedule. I can't keep it up. I suspect she's had a big jump in weight since Friday since we went to half her supplement bottles being formula, if that's the case then I think it's obvious my milk isn't enough calorie-wise. H & I have discussed that we will move to almost exclusively formula with me still pumping for awhile.
I am strongly considering this switch too. Trying to keep up with nursing, formula feeds, and pumping is running me ragged. Coupled with the frustration level with nursing not being enough and not being able to pump enough, it's a hot mess over here. Hugs lady. This shit sucks.

I think you are both amazing for doing this at all. I don't think I could handle it seeing as the are times I even want to quit nursing in general. I'm sure I would quit bf quickly. I can see how frustrating it would be needing to supplement but seriously to do it all for any amount of time is impressive!

Like for solidarity hun. It's such a daunting schedule. Major kudos to you. I don't know how anyone can keep it up for an extended time. I've been at it for like 4.5wks and finally had to tap out. It's too much.
B was up to 8lbs3oz today, up 7.5oz from Friday. We've decided to quit nursing and just do bottles. I'm going to keep pumping so she'll get that and formula. I'll keep adding extra powder formula to the breast milk too to boost the cals. Honestly I feel like a giant weight was lifted off me.
Just do what you need to for your & LO's wellbeing. Momma has to be happy & healthy too.

Yup - J was 4 weeks yesterday. We see the LC again tomorrow, but switching to pumping and formula is something I'm seriously considering. I never thought to add formula powder to the pumped milk - that's brilliant. I know I won't be able to pump enough to keep up with him, but he'd still be getting a bottle of breast milk every day (I hope).
How many ounces, on average, is your LO drinking? Sometimes my little guy is drinking 6oz. Sometimes I feel like that is too much. We'll do 2oz breast milk and 4oz formula and lately he'll also latch on for about 30min. Is this too much for his little tummy?

Ugh. Rereading this I realize I sound redundant. When I say seriously considering, I mean that the more I think about it, the more it's sounding like the best choice to make. Stupid sleep deprived new mom brain.

After nursing (usually 15 minutes on both sides) J is taking about 5 ounces. When I wasn't home last night, he did 7 ounces of formula. Not sure if his size matters, but he was 11.5 pounds last week (10 lbs 11 oz at birth).

Recommended feeding amount is based off weight; I have a chart somewhere my LC gave me. Now that we're not nursing pedi wants B getting between 2-3oz...closer to 3 being the goal. Since we switched she's been taking 2.66-3 on avg, and we usually get in 8 feedings a day. Of course B is on the smaller side for her age.
Are you pace feeding from the bottle? Is LO spitting up a lot?

You'll also see LO up their ounces while they are going through growth spurts and this will come back down. Eventually they can handle more of their calories during the day. This is how we slowly made sure #1 got his calories and was less likely to wake up MOTN. Of course, you don't want to over feed and cause spit up.
It took 2 weeks, multiple nipples and a f-ton of patience but LO successfully drank half an oz (all that was in there) from a bottle! Yay we are getting there!
When we had Miles, I gave myself three goals for breastfeeding in an effort to keep myself sane... They were:
6 Weeks - absolute goal - unless medically necessary to go to formula (not enough milk produced, low calories and not gaining, etc). 12 Weeks - medium goal - make it till I go back to work. 6 months - all is golden - I did it! Anything after this point is just icing on the cake.
Miles is 6 weeks on Saturday. I'm so excited and relieved I made it to this milestone - it helps me to focus on the 12 week goal now, too, without it seeming too daunting (say at five weeks when I got Mastitis). It's helpful for me to set these little milestones and markers so I don't lose my mind and can have smaller celebrations as we go.
We EFF and LO weighs between 7&8 lbs and takes about 3.5-4 ozs every 3-4 hours.
Here's what I've used as a guideline in the past.
If you can't see it, google "formula amounts by age," it should be one of the first image results.
Thank you. This is helpful. Baby max was tiny he was 5lbs 10oz he was up to 7lbs 3oz at his last check up at the beginning of the month. I'm sure he's up to about 9lbs now.

He spits up every now and then but nothing I'm concerned about. At times he can go 3hrs in between feeding and other times he wants to eat every 1.5hrs. I'm sure he is currently going through a growth spurt because I nursed him most of the day and he had formula bottles all day yesterday. He had almost 8oz of formula before bed. I was worried he would be to full but he was ok.

carissa325, rachelilly23, jewel441, sorry for boob-obsessed babies! That's exhausting! LO is like this when I get home from work too. She nurses and nurses and nurses...
We did a bottle at four weeks and then got busy and didn't do one for two more weeks and she didn't do great. She kept gagging on the nipple (Dr. Brown bottle). I got a Munchkin latch bottle and she did better but I think she was over tired. We're going to try again tomorrow afternoon. Its hard to do bottles in the evening because things are so chaotic with dinner and entertaining our toddler and getting her ready for bed.

What do you guys do when feeding time comes and baby has decided to sleep longer than usual? Do you just pump it out or wait and risk engorgement?
*stares at baby* *wills him to wake up* It's not working.
Pump if you're uncomfortable! (or trying to build a work stash) Maybe just don't "empty" in case he wakes up soon?
(We haven't had LO on any regular eating schedule since 4 weeks. She eats on demand and I have only gotten engorged the two times she slept 5.5 hours at night, which was a couple of weeks ago now.)

So... please don't hurt me....
K slept 10-5:30, then 5:45-after 8:30. My boobs were not leaking or engorged at all, and I find that really strange, since I only do 1 side per feeding and each boob would have gone over 9 hours without feeding. They were a little full, but from experience I expected to be in pain the first few times STTN until it became a regular thing. K has also been eating less than every 2 hours during the day with the 6 week growth spurt.
I don't get it. I hope I don't have a supply issue :/

Hey guys, I have been MIA lately. I am having some trouble with Evie nursing. She has been spitting up after every feed and sometimes it even comes out of her nose. She also grunts and makes loud noises before spitting up. Sometimes she gasps for air as she spits up. Which is scary in the middle of the night. She is gaining alot of weight. She is up 2lbs since birth. I also have forceful letdowns and she sometimes drinks too fast and gags. I am going to call the pediatrician tomorrow and get some info but was hoping someone could offer advice.

Off topic, but I also have an Evie
D was like this a few weeks ago. He'd have milk coming out his nose and end up with milk boogers. He'll be 9 weeks on Tuesday and I've noticed less of that. I have a forceful letdown as well. I either massage as I'm getting ready to feed him or pull him off when I feel my letdown and then have him relatch once it's slowed down. It's annoying but it's the only thing that's helped. Also, any time he pulls off even if he isn't fussing, I burp him and then try to relatch.
I hope you find something that works for you. I wish these kids came with instructions.
