How much nipple soreness is just like normal adjusting soreness? Any thoughts. Baby has been feeding like a champ. I am definitely a bit sore. The nurse checked my nipples and helped me with the latch, she said both looked pretty good, at first she was latching a bit shallow but now I have been better about getting her on deeper but it still feels a bit intense
It depends on the person, but mine where bleeding at one point.... so it was extremely painful.
Everytime she latched I had to breath out as I dealt with the pain. This lasted for about a week and then by the second week things greatly improved and by the end of the first month I had zero soreness.

This was my experience as well. After about a week I pumped on my right side and we did a few bottles because latching was so painful. After a couple of days I healed and latching didn't hurt anymore.

I was told no amount of soreness is ok. Like it shouldn't hurt and feel good. I kinda think that is bullshit though.
Im also having a hard time with a getting a deep latch and I think its getting worse. Last night was rough and I kept getting frustrated because she was pretty much chomping on my nipple and it was getting really pinched.

I definitely agree it isn't okay but realistically I've NEVER met anyone who BF that didn't experience some discomfort and or pain in the very beginning.
I mean even my good friend who's training to be a doula said it hurt like a b**** in the beginning and she's like being pregnant and having a baby is all roses and sunshine.
Mine hurt a little in the beginning, but after I got through the first week with him, it was much better. The LC helped a lot. She soothed a lot of my nerves and fear about his latching etc.
The MW came and checked me and her bottom lip was not out enough, so I will make sure to check that much closer. The LC is also supposed to come see me in a bit. She latches much better when I a sitting in the chair but I don't always want to get out of the bed

By the end of the day my lady bits are killing me from sitting. Im in the softest chair we have with a pillow. I can't seem to get a handle on nursing in bed.
I wish I could nurse in bed but can't get comfortable. My boobs are usually big, now they're like two melons so I need one hand for the boob and one for baby's head. Without something to lean on I get uncomfortable and then tense. Boppy doesn't do it for me this time around just an old pillow while sitting on couch with arm rest is my spot of choice. Needless to say I only get obenshort stretch of sleep in my bed. The rest of my night is downstairs.

+1 to all this.
My LO came out and happened to latch really deeply - I had no idea what I was doing, but she did - so my nips actually haven't been hurting.
But my bottom and lady bits have been sore at the end of the day from sitting. I have to nurse on the couch in the MOTN or in my rocking chair because the angle in bed puts all the pressure on the wrong places.
SheilaTheTank, the best thing so far for me (which has really improved the situation down there the last 3 days) has been sitting in 6 inches of hot bath water with some almond or tea tree oil and some epsom salts and just swishing around and soaking. That has helped more than anything else.
I also mixed the baby's homemade diaper spray 1:1 with witch hazel and have been spraying that all over myself every time I go to the bathroom. That also seems to help.
Ready for my vag and butt to look and feel normal again! Afraid my vag will look weird as hell forever...
A cluster fed from 10:30 last night and she's still attached now (6:45am). I think I got an hour that she wasn't attached to me. My boobs hurt. Hopefully my milk comes in today. I think it's starting.
I love the LC! Had a pain free feeding on the right side (my "bad nipple" side) she also gave us lots of tips and was much more hands on than the nurses with showing me how to do it. Now must remember the things she said!!!!!
Baby is already starting to gain! She isn't back to her birth weight yet but only a few ounces away at last night's weigh in and above the night before!
@jewl441 yay for pain free feeding!! So glad the LC was able to help.
Thanks! Def still a WIP when I do it myself. I just keep telling myself chest to chest, pancake the boob, bottom lip first. It's getting better but it's very easy to get flustered when she is in full on attack the boob mode.

Yeah. It is. I sometimes have to latch little man several times. He gets a little over eager and nipple suffers for it.
LO is so lazy. He likes to sleep a lot and doesn't feed as regularly as I'd like. Pumping sucks because my boobs are huge and I get small amounts out. H has to help massage them and boy does it hurt.
I'm trying to feed or pump every 2-3hrs. Why are my boobs so engorged? Feel terrible.

Ugh, I am so sorry you are having such a hard time! For a sleepy newborn sometimes it helps to strip him naked, change his diaper if needed, and then just constantly tickle him or gently blow on his face to keep him awake and suckling. As for the engorgement, I would try had expressing a bit before feeding or pumping just to take the edge off. Hugs mama, you are doing a great job!!
I've only used shields for a short period of time when my nipples felt like they were on fire. Once we got the hang of it, I stop using them. Shields didn't do anything to help with prolonging feedings in my case.
Thank for the info. I'm thinking of trying it for a bit. I think it cost about $7-8.
I had to use shields firmly lazy nurse for awhile. They were a HUGE pain in the ass. But they worked, and they got her to latch and be happy. We used them for a few weeks until she suddenly didn't need them anymore.

Melon boobs here too, and I haven't any milk yet. To nurse in bed, I would make sure I was wearing a nursing bra (crowd control) and have LO measles into the crook of my arm. Then I could maneuver LO with my arm, make sure I was comfy, and had a free hand for my "feeding" boob. It's actually my favorite position.

Birthday baby twins! My LO is sleepy too. I definitely set an alarm for every 2 hours in the day and every 3 at night. Often she asks for it before that, especially at cluster feeding time in the motn, but it's definitely weird! Now that we're at 8 days she's becoming more wakeful. The funny thing is that when she's awake she is SUPER alert and active. Maybe she wears her awk our haha.
LO lost 4% of her body weight in 24 hours but after 48 is down almost 20% :-( waiting for a lecture when we get discharged...
Aww, hang in there, any clue why? Not eating yet? E lost 6%.even though she ate well first days.
She has been nursing fine, I'm really stumped. DD1 lost 12% but I attributed part of that to a long induction, lots of fluids, etc. I honestly hope the nurse misquoted me on her weight because 20% seems almost impossible. She cluster fed for the last 4 hours so I am going to ask the rounding physician to reweigh her - if she still hasn't gained then I guess we have a problem.

Good idea on the reweigh, hope she gains some back to ease any worries. I think I remember with DD1 I just had to take her to pediatrician more often.

Ummm yeah the nurse totally told me the wrong weight. Only down 8%, within their 10% red flag limit. I am furious and relieved at the same time.

I was wondering. I thought those numbers sounded crazy since 10% is when they start discussing supplimenting etc etc. I'd be furious too but glad she's doing better than you were led to believe!

At her 3rd weigh in H told me she weighed 4 lbs 12 oz, she was 6 4 at birth 6 1 the night before. So I started freaking out. But it was 5 12 not 4. I could have killed him!
That sucks but glad the LO is not down that much!!!
