SheilaTheTank - how old now? She might be going through a growth spurt. There are several in the beginning.
3 weeks. Last night sucked. I was so tired I didn't even have the energy to post.
I think 3 weeks is a typical growth spurt. Usually 6 and 12 weeks too. From what I remember my DD would eat like she'd never had food before for a day or so, then would sleep a bunch the next few days. Hopefully the sleep is coming soon!
DanaScullyX - have you tried some saline spray and the Nose Frida?
Haven't done the spray. I'm worried with how tiny she is. There's nothing in her nose though, we did try the bulb.
How's her poop? Does she spit up a ton? The only reason I ask is because a stuffy nose can be a sign of a milk/soy intolerance. C had that until about 15 months old.
Getting a good latch is so much more work at 4:30 in the morning. I long for the day that I can just whip out a boob and he does all the work.
It gets to the point in the MOTN that I give no fucks on the latch. Just eat child and go back to sleep please.
Yeah, that is how I ended up with cheese grater nipples in the first place. I am doing everything I can to help them heal, it is ridiculous how complicated it is.
I don't know how you guys do the side lying nursing. Every time I try, I wind up smothering her. Maybe my boobs are just too .
+1 for this, I have to hold open an air hole for him the whole time, kind of defeats the purpose.
Yeah, I tried it with a few times the first week and had to push on my breast to make sure she could breathe the whole time, and got a cramp in my hand cause she took awhile to eat. After that I just sat up to nurse. Now I'm sleeping out in the living room with her in the pack 'n play, so I just sit on the couch.

I'm up waiting for LO to wake up again. I just got her back to sleep after nursing, then a big poop, and now I can't fall back asleep. Grrr.
Size DD here. I put her in the crook of my arm so she was slightly propped up. No issues with smothering.
Google: Side-Lying Position
Learning to nurse your baby lying down is invaluable. The side-lying position is relaxing and gets you more much-needed sleep. You can use it to nurse your baby at night or to nap-nurse during the day. This position is also beneficial for the mom who had a cesarean birth.
Here’s what to do:
-The lying down position is basically the same as the cradle hold, but with baby and mother lying on their sides facing each other.
-Place two pillows under your head, a pillow behind your back, a pillow under your top leg, and a fifth pillow tucked behind your baby. Five pillows sounds like a lot, but remember a golden rule of nursing: if mother is comfortable, baby is likely to be more comfortable, too.
-Place your baby on her side facing you, and nestled in your arm. Slide baby up or down along the mattress to get her mouth lined up with your nipple.
Unless you need to lie down during feedings for physical reasons, the side-lying position is not the best to start with since you are less able to maneuver baby’s head to guide his latch-on. Best to use this position after good latch-on habits are established. If the side-lying position doesn’t work for you at first, keep coming back to it. As your baby becomes a better breastfeeder, it will get easier to latch him on well while you are lying down.

Re: side lying, I can only do it for an early morning feeding when I have a little light. I do too much adjusting and maneuvering and then LO gets all mad.
Anyone have a LO that refuses a pacifier? He mostly eats from the boob, but we just introduced a bottle so H can help. He's fine with a bottle, but absolutely hates a paci. Aa long as milk is coming out he doesn't seem to care how he gets it. I selfishly admit I'd be much happier if he took one.

Yup. Only 1 of 4 of my kids has taken a pacifier. And I TRIED. Hard. #3 was a thumb baby (until age 8!!!), while #2 and #4 really took to neither. #5 seems to love the thumb en utero, so we'll see. I fully intend to push the pacifier again. Binky habits are SO much easier to break than thumbs!!!
H still sucks his thumb. During the day AND night. So not kidding. He literally can't stop.
On side lying: I treat it a little like laid back.she is next to me, kinda on her side near my nipple and then I let her find it. It takes a min, sometimes I have to pinch my boob to start but can let go when she is on. We don't really look like that pic, I have no hands on her now, but it works. I am also like an F or something ridic... I was a DD/E before my milk and a D pre-pregnancy and it hasn't stopped us.
We haven't done a paci or bottle yet. Unless she gets more fussy I don't think we will do the paci, it doesn't seem necessary now. We are going to wait another week or 2 before trying a bottle. I would like her to be able to take one, but I don't want it to be part of the norm, just an option for later.

No pacifiers here. I won't introduce one until after a month old, same with the bottle. C had her pacifier from a month old till a year old only at nap time and night (and occasionally church). We plan to do the same for him.

C will sometimes take a paci, but it's hit or miss. I would much rather him use a paci than his thumb. DNW any more orthodontic problems than are already likely.

K will only take a pack when she is tired. She'll suck on your finger if she's getting hungry but will spit the pack out immediately and get pissed. I use the same brand of paci as her bottles so I don't know if that makes a difference.

Poor M is still so stuffed up. We saw the doctor and are using saline spray, but it's rough going. She doesn't want to eat, but she's hungry, she is pooping like a maniac so her poor booty is angry at all the wiping and she can't get into a solid sleep.
And it's 4 am and I'm starving and need to pump but she won't be put down.

I love side lying nursing, but I'm still 4 days pp and am in pain every time she nurses. So I have to sit up, for now. Once we get past the first couple weeks, hopefully we'll be able to do it.
I'm a F/G, so boob size doesn't make a difference.

Lanolin is awesome on raw, red booties btw. Sorry LO is sick .

What color is her poop? If it's green I'd start looking into seeing if she has a milk protein intolerance. My daughter had it and she was very stuffed up and pooped constantly. She'd also spit up way more than usual. As soon as I took milk out of my diet I saw a huge improvement after just a few says and then all the symptoms went away after 2 weeks.
This was LOs best night sleep! She was in bed w us half the night and in the arms reach the other half but sleep is sleep. And I felt way more comfortable/safe with full on cosleeping than I thought I would.
