This has been on my mind for a few weeks now, especially as our due date gets closer, and I'm not sure how to go about handling it so thought I would ask you all. My MIL is a smoker which I'm not a fan of at all but whatever, they live across the country so we never see them and I don't have to worry about it. They're planning on coming out soon after the baby is born (most likely mid-August), and will be staying with us for the entirety of the trip. With all of the research and studies that have been done regarding the affects of third hand smoke (especially when it comes to babies), I'm just not comfortable with her going outside and smoking and then coming back in and holding the baby. I don't want my newborn being exposed to it and having to breathe in the nasty fumes/chemicals from her clothing for at least a week, it's just not something I'm comfortable with.
I feel bad having H tell her either you don't smoke or you don't get to hold baby, but I also want to make sure she knows I'm not comfortable with it and some sort of action needs to be taken. I haven't even brought it up to H yet because I'm a little worried I'll come off as controlling/overbearing/slightly crazy. What say you? Is this something that would bug you and make you want to say something about, or am I overreacting?
