I'm curious to see what DS weighs at his appointment today. Despite the issues he seemed to be doing well while we were in the hospital. I'm curiois to see now that we are home how he's doing.
Now that he wakes himself up to eat I was told not to bother to wake him every 2-3 hours. Of course now he wakes himself up around that (or less) so nothing really changed lol
I'm really hoping his weight is doing well and I don't need to supplement more. Fx!
westiemom I'm totally behind on this thread, but I just have to echo that some babies are just small. Someone has to be at the bottom of the curve! DS has always been around the 3% for weight and I can understand the worry. While my doctor wasn't overly concerned he had me coming every month for a weight check for the entire first year. When we introduced solids I met with a dietician who had me do things like mixing olive oil and peanut butter in most of his solid meals. Didn't make a difference, this kid was just meant to be small. And at 2 years and 9 months he is the smallest kid in our group at only 24lbs. He will always been on the smaller side, but I STILL worry about his size even though he is a perfectly healthy little boy.
We just got permission to go from 2 hour feeds to 3 hours, but we wake them up throughout the night to feed. We're trying really hard to get them on the same schedule so we have printouts that we fill out saying when they ate, how much, how much time was spent on the boob, and diaper changes. It's strict but helps a lot.
My SIL's first kids were her twins. She was strict on sleep and eating schedules but it really helped her in the long run!
Baby has maintained his weight from his day 3 weigh in at the hospital! Doctor is very pleased but wants him to regain his birth weight (obviously). I'm under orders to eat more and work on boosting milk supply.
My pump is working now so I was also told to start pumping conservatively to try to boost supply and use that in the syringe instead of supplementing with formula if I'd prefer (which I would rather do). So overall a good appointment!

Does anyone else's LO make a clicking sound when nursing? She started doing it after her tongue tie was released. It doesn't hurt me but it doesn't seem right

Cluster feeding is a special kind of hell. That is all.
Yes! Especially while trying to care for a toddler. Poor, poor A.
I keep telling DH we might have to stop with one kid because I don't know how people breastfeed this much and raise a toddler! Mad props to all with 2+kids!

Yeah... I got a breastfeeding friendly carrier that I'm hoping to start using in the next week or so. I think that will make a huge difference. Plus trying to make sure he has special activities to do while the baby is feeding and snuggling with me/ baby while he's nursing has been a favorite activity so far. He feels included that way.
Eta last time I was dead set against using formula. This time, I am open to it if we find that breastfeeding doesn't work with our family. Although I'd like to EBF, I don't think it's fair for the toddler to be ignored constantly just so I can breastfeed. My initial goal is 6 weeks and we'll reevaluate from there. I really think once we get to that point though it will be much smoother.

Mine clicks. Same, doesn't hurt when he nurses (except for the initial latch) so I'm not worried about it.
2 kids is hard yo! We have not run into cluster feeding yet but I'm sure it's coming. Luckily DS1 has been able to entertain himself so far when DS2 is nursing.

I nursed in my Ergo with DS but that was when he was at least 5-6 months old. I'd like to figure out how to nurse in my new ring sling or a woven wrap.

For anyone who is topless and on house arrest because the nips are too sore.... Breast shells. I was recommended the softshells by medela. I wore a bra today and went to sbux! I feel human again.

Today was disappointing. B had his 1 month check-up and he had only gained 2 oz in the past 2 weeks. Obviously not good. Pedi has me supplementing after every feeding with 1-2oz of high cal formula. A lactation consultant is coming over tomorrow to hopefully help me figure out the issue!

I probably should have an LC come over to help me out with the girls once I feel like they have learned to pace themselves during feeds. The kiddos have been on fortified breast milk or a high calorie formula for a while now and they probably won't be weaned from that any time soon so I understand your disappointment.

Dang. I'm so sorry. I know that's so disappointing. Hopefully the lactation consultant can help.

I made the assumption an LC would come around and see me like they did last time. Nope. He's nursing and latching, but it's painful, so I'd like some confirmation that we're still doing a good job.

I'm making this same assumption for when I go in. Maybe your nurse will have some insight? Or you can request to them that the LC comes and sees you on the next rounds? (Except weekend.. they may be off.. Annoying)
