Silly ftm question... How do u know to offer the other side? E will go for 20-30 mins on one side. She usually just falls asleep. Should i be switching sides half way through?
After she finishes one side, I burp her then offer the other. Sometimes she's interested, others she's not.
Anyone have tips on how to stay awake for MOTN sessions? I came dangerously close to dropping her after falling asleep mid nurse last night. I've been playing on the Kindle but I still fall asleep sometimes.
I try to turn on the tv, play on my phone, and sit on a couch or chair without a back. It sucks trying to stay awake
I loved side lying with J, but I am too scared to do it this early. Our bed is pretty soft and J is currently refusing to sleep anywhere else. It's 36 sq ft of chaos as it is.

I make myself sit in an uncomfortable position, keep a lamp on, and watch invigorating tv. It's hard though!

k3am , with my first, my nips were sore upon latch for 5 or so weeks. His latch wasn't bad and he wasn't a crazy sucker- it's just sensitive nips and nursing. I was told that was pretty normal for some women. However, I will say that it didn't hurt past 10-20 seconds of latching. Not sure if that helps you but that's my experience.
teraiin , my first was a lazy nurser. He would remain awake but drowsy and just nurse for 45 minutes straight.
I forget who it was that asked (Sammich_Cat maybe ?) about only nursing one side... there were times when he would nurse one side and be satiated. I'd usually hand-express a little from the non-nursed side to get comfortable and then the next nurse was from the hand-expressed side. Since LO was such a slow and steady eater, this worked for us.
And for nipple/breast preference- if you are nursing from both breasts, start with the least-favorite first. That worked for us! Once we got to 3-5 months, he was so big of an eater that he had no preference, just wanted all the milk.
So I bought this on Amazon and got it today. I used it with 2 feeds and have gotten 1 oz at each feed. I tend to letdown/leak a lot during the day and especially when I nurse so I figured I might as well collect what I leak vs. letting it go to waste in my nursing pad.
Trying to keep this little guy awake to eat. Didn't have this problem with his brother!
DS had to kept being woken up during nursing when I was in the hospital. It was so frustrating. I had to keep stripping him down to just his diaper and then keep annoying him during feeding to keep him sucking.
Anyone else notice that their spectra pump looks like a giant boob? Just me?
I'm trying to decide how much of a stash I need before I go back to work. I only started pumping Monday, and I'm really just doing once a day, because lazy.
Which one? I have an S1. Doesn't look like a boob to me. I'll have to look again.

Any STM's have any thoughts on pumping with a toddler? I haven't started daily pumping yet but I'd like to start ASAP to build a stash. Pumping during sleep times isn't an option with the baby's typical feeding schedule.

You can hand express to relieve some of the pressure from engorgement. I don't recommend pumping to relieve, otherwise you risk creating an oversupply. It should get better and even out as time goes by.
I've dealt with engorgement since week 2 ... It is horribly painful. I have found that just hand expressing some before I feed helps or express some from the side he doesn't eat on ... He was gagging with my letdown cause it was too much and most times he only eats on one side like 20 min. I only pump 1-2 times a day and just add it to my supply but I don't want to pump too much cause then I just will keep producing that much. Basically idk if that helps or not just what I've done so far lol

I pump after the first morning feed and get 4 oz for my stash.
westiemom, Hand- expressing is a life saver. I actually expressed into a wide-mouth bottle throughout the day for a little extra milk to freeze but it all depends on how much you need to express during a 24hr period.

I finally just decided there isn't ever going to be an ideal time to pump so I need to just do it and trust my body will continue producing enough for Cam's next feed whenever he wakes up. I'm hooked up now! Whoo!
TTMA engorgement. My boobs are sooo engorged. LO is nursing but I don't think she is going to be able to totally empty both.
What happened?! How did this happen? How do I fix it?!
I'm scared is mastitis.
I have dealt with engorgement with both kids. I agree with everyone saying hand express prior to feeding. I also only feed on one side at a feeding which helped a lot. I get golf ball size lumps in my armpits from it. The only thing that helps that is massaging the lumps in a hot shower then pumping just enough to get the lumps down.
Anyone else's babies eat for short amounts of time? The little dude almost never nurses more than 10 minutes at a time and very often won't take the second breast. DD ate 20 minutes a side, both sides, every time so I'm not used to this! Her latch also sucked and we needed a shield, so maybe he's just more efficient? Plenty of wet and poop diapers and he gained 3oz after leaving the hospital so I'm thinking it's ok, but pedi seemed to want him to eat longer and take both sides. She noticed a very slight tongue tie and suggested clipping it but I don't know if it's necessary since he latches well and with very little pain.
DD ate barely 10 mins a side once she became efficient. He may just already know what he's doing and getting enough out quickly!
My sister just gave O her first bottle while I'm gone. I know it's time (LC suggested 4-6 weeks to intro a bottle) but I'm scared I will go home and she will hate the boob. We will see!

Yay! I'm glad! We'll be introducing the bottle sometime in the next week- I want him to have one before the wedding next weekend. He'll be there with us but sitting with MIL during the ceremony since DH and I are both in the wedding party. Hopefully he won't need a bottle during the ceremony but I want to have him try one and have one there just in case.
