DS will go anytime we set him on the potty. He'll stay dry as long as we remember, but he won't tell us when he needs to go. I'm getting frustrated because he has been doing really well for over a month but it's really only because we have been taking him every hour or so. Any ideas on how to get him to tell us? He is wearing "feel wet" training pants and it doesn't bother him.
Last night when we put DS in the bath, he was crying and said "there's a poop in there." So I asked him if he had to go and he said yes. So I tried putting him on the toilet. He screamed in hysterics. I was pretty sure it was just a stalling attempt but I thought I'd try just in case. My gut was confirmed as he never pooped the whole night.

DD has regressed or at least is stepping back from potty training too. Will not sit on the potty at all anymore.
On the other hand she is noticing much more when she is peeing and pooping and wanting to be changed immediately. And I think is even aware of when she needs to pee though usually won't tell me - the other night before bath she freaked out after I took off her diaper and then said don't carry me I pee on you (she didn't though) but wouldn't sit on the potty and I thought she was just stalling because she really didn't want to take a bath. But when I put yet in the tub she seemed really afraid she would pee in the bath and begged for her diaper so I ended up holding her diaper (actually it was a torn open pull up she had been wearing that was dry) for her while she stood in the tub and finally peed in it.
She is also holding her pee forever and then going a ton at one time. Last night she peed so much it totally went through or overflowed her pull up. She was sitting on my lap on the couch. It was lovely. Also we were eating peas which I think was partly why she peed because we she was talking about peas and pea.
Just pee on your potty and get stickers and then a new toy, kid!!!
DD now poops when she's supposed to be napping. Pretty much every day, unless she's pooped sometime in the morning before. Yesterday she pooped while I was changing the baby. What's mama doing? Changing baby cause he pooped. Oh, I poopin too! And then she did.
So if she has that much control, she must be ready right? She refuses to sit on the potty now though and I'm not sure how to overcome that.

Is anyone having issues with LO's becoming constipated while PTing? I'm noticing DD isn't pooping as much and is almost...holding it I guess? At daycare the other day her teacher had to push on her belly to help her poop bc she was so constipated.

I haven't because we aren't actively pt right now, but I've had friends tell me they went through this with pt.

I figured it was common but I'm not sure how to resolve it. Daycare told me to give her fiber or stool softeners so I guess I could call our pedi and double check. I just don't want to deal with poop accidents everywhere 😖

I just brought this up on the constipation thread, though DS's issues aren't related to PT. Our pedi recommended prune or pear juice to start before moving to stool softeners. We gave DS about 4 oz of prune juice mixed with milk last night, a snack pack of raisins and a pear and pea pouch and he was back to normal this morning.

You can also see if it is fear related. I read in one of the potty books, and my husband's cousin apparently went through this, but some kids get hung up on "losing" their poop, not knowing where it goes (into the pipes under the house and to the streer...). The cousin was mostly possessive of the poops so she would hold it. Maybe talk about it more with kiddo and see if she can tell you why she holds?

Sry! This is exactly what DD did for about a week and I was afraid to push her and cause issues. But after changing like 10+ diapers a day (we usually only did like 4 max), I finally told her she either had to sit on the potty to pee or have an accident that i would gladly clean up, and she chose the potty. A little toughness did the trick for us. A couple times since she has asked for her diaper in the middle of the day, but I just say no. Since she gets a diaper for nap and bedtime I am a little worried that she may start trying to manipulate that, but we will manage that if it comes.

Yesterday I went to the mall and DD used her seat insert on the big toilets 3 times! She was awesome about warning me she had to go and then holding it until we could get to a bathroom. No accidents all day! Unfortunately, one of those potty breaks interrupted me trying on clothes. Mid- change, "Mommy, Isa need potty!"

See, that's the weird thing. She tells me that she wants to poop on the potty. ...she just doesn't do it. It's like she needs to just get that first poop out of the way and she'll be fine.
Today was day 1 of the 3 day method. C has never even used the potty. She would sit for 3 seconds and get up and say "all done!"
It went great. She had ONE accident. I couldn't believe how well she did. I'm hoping day 2 goes okay.
Side note: when she had an accident she was in her playroom and she stood up and said "uh oh" I looked over and saw her pooping. I ran over and scooped her up and she finished on the potty. When we were done I scooped up the poo on the ground (thankful for wood floors). Chloe looked at me and asked me " are you grumpy mommy?" The kid must've sensed my disgust. Lol

Anyone have a good book/ method they liked besides just letting your kid be naked? Our life doesn't really allow for 3 days inside and it also just sounds not awesome to me. I want to really start potty training after our beach trip in 2 weeks but I need some guidelines.

This is me too. I am absolutely never home for 3 days straight. It is so unusual to have 2 days in a row from work and only because we are closed due to a holiday. I keep trying, but even naked or with underwear my kid will just pee where she is even 2 minutes after sitting on the potty. I don't know how to get through to her.

This is DD1 too. Then she gets so upset. I think she just doesn't understand why she's sitting on the toilet.
So a little success this morning, Peyton is always dry in the morning and we both had a shower and she still hadn't peed yet. After the shower she kept trying to get away and I just said no you are not peeing on the floor.
I put her on the potty and she got up twice crying. I again said just pee on the potty, not on the floor. She waited and then pushed it all out and I made a big deal and gave her some Smarties as her treat. I hope this can give her the push she needs to go on the potty again and not fight it.
DD doesn't quite get that you're supposed to sit on the potty before you poop, and now always wants to do it after. She understands so much, so I don't know why this is an issue, other than she just likes pooping in her diaper.
Today though she was really upset that I wouldn't take her to the potty, poopy diaper and all. So after I got her cleaned up, we went to the potty, just to sit, and she actually pooped a little more! She was pretty happy with herself. Now if we could just do that first...

It's like teaching them the ABCs or tying their shoes. They miss some steps, forget, or sometimes things don't click. It's repetition and practice, and repeating poop goes in the potty. You can also dump her poop from the diaper into the potty to help this. The author that I read said that all they've known since birth is poop squished to their butt. So even the feeling if uncomfortable and unfamiliar and must be re learned.

We've been dumping her poop into the potty foreverrrrr. I've heard that too, that their poop is very personal to them and it takes a while to overcome the idea of just letting it go. She also seems somewhat attached to her diaper and really wanted to put one back on as soon she was done. We'll get there. I think if I really worked on it, she'd get it, but I just can't right now. I need to do a little more research too and find a method that will work for us for peeing.
If we can get puppies and kittens potty trained at 3 months, we can get human children trained at 2. (This is what I'm telling myself to psych myself up for the big diaper free weekend.)
DD1 has been pooping in the potty the past three days. I did nothing. Something just clicked for her. Now if we could get pee figured out, that'd be great.
Also, if DH would help more by NOT putting her in a diaper when he gets her up in the morning, that'd also be great. As long as she's wearing one, she's going to pee in it.

They can't feel it in diapers. Even a fully trained kid would go back to peeing if you put a diaper on them. If he doesn't want to clean up accidents, get the training pants that are thick underwear.

We cloth, so it's a bit different. Not all my inserts are stay dry. But she knows what diapers are for. And I'm looking into training pants. Just haven't picked any up yet. Do you have any recommendations, brand wise?
They have really cute ones for girls but I'm just using the basic ones at like target or Walmart. Gerber has cheap ones. If you've got poop down, I think you're so close. Just take off the training wheels ya know.
I heard to not use pull ups because they can't feel they're wet and I read a suggestion to use underwear but you can put pull ups over them so when they have an accident, they feel they're wet but it doesn't leak on their clothes. Anyone else heard of this? DH is getting more aware of when he poops and wants to be changed so I think we're starting to get closer to PT.

I am not referring to pull up diapers. I am referring to training underwear- they are cloth.
