I thought maybe a running thread of general questions about newborn care could help since we don't have the traffic for a ton of threads for everything.

How are you handling nails? I tried to trim them the other day and pinched Finn's finger and felt like an awful mom. I don't remember it being that hard with my other two kids, I just made sure to trim while they were asleep.
For the squishy babies I like nail scissors. It's easier for me to see cutting from the side instead of straight on. This baby is much more squirmy than DD even while sleeping so it's definitely challenging.

I can clip his thumbnails but the others are to damn small. So I file them when he is asleep but he hardly ever sleeps right now. Plus his stretches to get in.....

I also use baby clippers when he's sleeping - I have a couple friends who just bite them since they're so soft.

Yeah my girls dribble when eating. I find it in their necks and even behind their ears or in their ears. Especially if H fed them or I had to prop a bottle for one while feeding the other. Dried formula is a pain to clean out of ears.

Yes, J is constantly dribbling milk out of her mouth and it goes straight into her chubby neck. H was saying I should put cream on it too but I've just been keeping it dry and clean so I wanted to see what you guys were doing!

Sam is a really messy eater and he's got a double chin, so I'm constantly wiping down his neck folds! I recommend Balm Baby's Diaper Balm. I put it on Sam's neck and face and it really helps with the redness.
Do you guys put anything on the neck folds? I try to keep it nice and clean and dry but it's so red.
DS1 got the worst "cheese neck" (it stunk!) and I really had to keep on top of it with a damp cloth. I put Vaseline in the fold when it was red.
At 2 years, DS1 still gets dirt and crud in his neck folds...
I'm also using Vaseline in the parts that are raw and it looks so much better. She also has had cheese from spitting up so much even though I try to keep it clean.
For her nails I peel the tip off whenever I see a little part loose if that makes sense.

How often are you doing tummy time? I'm averaging once/month over here... Which means he's done it once...
A former NICU mom told me their PT says having baby lay on their tummy on your chest while you are in a reclining position counts. That is the only reason I'm not totally failing at this.

We do it 2-4 times a day for a few minutes until he gets really mad. DS1 always wants him on his tummy watching him play trains so that helps remind me to do it.
