Need to ask. On a typical night, how many times is your baby waking up? We are always at 2 (more on a bad night). I feel like I'm the only one who has never had a really long stretch (I think we got 6 hours once). Generally 4 hours is the long stretch, but that starts at 8pm and I can't fall asleep then. Sleep doesn't seem to appeal to him - he just likes to eat all the time day and night - I wish I had his metabolism!
We are at one wakeup a night, usually around 3;30 or 4:00. But I cannot for the life of me get this kid to go down before 10:00, which is late for me (I'm an old woman, I know). If we don't have to get up early for work the next day, she will sleep til about 8:00/8:30; otherwise I have to get her up at 6:45, and she naps on and off at daycare til about 10:00. I wish o knew how to modify her schedule to shift everything a little earlier, but then I also hate to mess with anything because she does give me a decent stretch most nights.

....minimum 3 times, but usually up 4 or 5.
He eats every two hours around the clock. Every now and then I can get a good 4 hour stretch. But like you he goes down at 7:30 and I can't do that.
Can I come crawling back to the MOTN club?we had about 10 days of Really Awesome Sleep... like 1 wakeup in 8 hours. I felt like we'd finally reached The Promised Land of 3 month old sleep.
Now... It's been a week of all 2-3 hour stretches.she went to bed at 9 and I've been up at 11:30 and 2 already. I just want to cry. I can't do this anymore.
I feel like it's psychological warfare. Irene STTN earlier this week. I didn't talk about it for fear of jinxing it. Didn't matter. We're back to two wakeups now but usually I would say between 1-3.
Does anyone else really struggle getting their baby back down if they wake up around 4-5am? Our first wake up is usually around 1 which is generally quick and painless, and the 2nd one is between 4-5. It is awful getting E back to sleep. Any tips? After a while, I'll bring him to bed and he will sleep on me for a bit, but I'm so paranoid about suffocating him that it's not too restful.
Current struggle right here too. I feel like I shouldn't complain since he STTN from 7:30-4:00, but in order to function at work, I have to go to bed when he does and it's really hard to get anything at home done. We've tried pushing bed back 15 min at a time in hopes he'll sleep later, but no dice, just less sleep for me. I'd kill for a 6:00 waking for the day! Someday our babes will hopefully sleep longer!
R is normally down for the night between 8:30 and 9, wakes between 5 and 6:30, and then sleeps till 8:30. Sometimes he wakes 2-3 times, but mostly not. He fights naps at home and doesn't nap more than 20 minutes at daycare though.

Once a week or so my kid will have a bad night. Mostly sunday nights it seems. But he sleeps over 6 hrs straight most nights. I worry about having enough nursing sessions because i am back to work. So i am sure his sleep will be terrible when i feel more comfortable with him sleeping long stretches.
Thanks all! I know E is one of the youngest babies, but it seems like he's pretty average. And funny enough, after me asking this question, he slept for the longest stretch of his life last night: 9-4. I actually had to wake him bc my boobs were on fire and with my parents visiting and staying in our living room, I didn't want to pump and wake them. And since he slept so long, I of course thought something was wrong so I kept checking on him and didn't sleep that well. Ugh annoyed at myself!
I'm up once or twice a night to feed him. Since we stopped swaddling there are multiple visits to replace the paci and pat his bum - it takes all of a minute and h does it at least half the time so I don't really know how often, but more often than we'd like. At least it's quick so I barely wake up.
I don't think I'm allowed in this thread anymore after this week.....
Dd slept 930pm to 700am last night....
She's been doing 6,7,8 hours this week......
Reading things like that makes me want to cry.
It's a strange feeling, almost lonely , when you have a kid that doesn't sleep. My BFF had her DD two days before I had B and she's been STTN for weeks. I feel like an idiot, but rationally I know I'm not doing anything wrong.
I also have a lot of friends who subscribe to the 12 hours by 12 weeks method. They all FF, and I don't think this would work with a BF baby. Another friend has an 8 week old that's consistently doing 10 hrs at night. I basically call them liars and cry in my pillow.

I feel like I'm barely functioning. The other day I packed DD1's lunch and put it (inc yogurt and turkey sandwich) in the pantry overnight. I ran a stoplight the other morning because I didn't see it. I want to exercise but I have no energy. We have a new house that still needs a million things done/bought and I've accomplished none.

How do you subscribe to 12 hours by 12 weeks? Do you close their door and come back in 12 hours? You can't force a baby to sleep.

They all swear by it. Something about only feeding them 4 times in the 12 hours they are suppose to be awake.
It makes me squirm, and I can't imagine only feeding my kid 4 times in 24 hours. They basically don't feed them at night. I try not to judge, but I have a hard time with this one.

Hmm interesting. I would think eating less during the day would result in more night wake ups. I guess FF is different than BF. But regardless, not for me.

Every baby is different and you are definitely not doing anything wrong. I'm just waiting for her to stop doing this. Keep going, you are doing all that you can!

DS is formula fed and doesn't sleep 12 hours. 7 at the most but usually 5 hours.

Misunderstood. Lol
They are full of shit. DS usually only eats every 3 hours during the day. Which would be the 12 hour.
It really just depends on the baby. They are different people and will act differently.

I FF and this doesn't sound right to me, not at this age. Maybe after baby has started solids, yes. But right now I feed on demand. Which means feeding 8-12 times during the day. L often has three bottles before lunch!
Hell, I feed my toddler more than four times in 24 hours!

there's more to it than what I described. It's about keeping them awake for a specific amount of time at certain parts of the day, feeding them less and less at night. Basically if you follow their schedule you make them drop night feedings by 12 weeks and then will STTN by then.
I've only read excerpts from the book- not something I would do but people swear by it.
