Hi! Drive by posting. Hope everyone is doing well! 6 days in to 2u1 and we are doing pretty well. Only snag so far... My mom is probably the Canadian version of NMG. I specifically asked her to wait a few weeks before she came to visit. (Because she is so much work and stressful - I didn't even let her know when I was headed to the hospital because I was afraid she would be on a plane trying to make it for the birth).
It seemed like she had agreed not to come. Monday morning she sent a text saying she was having pizza delivered to us to dinner that night. Seemed uncharacteristically nice and helpful.... Until she showed up delivering it herself.... With her new boyfriend. Oh. Hi.
My very sweet little man has turned into a teething temper tantrum throwing monsta. Yesterday we suffered through a 30 min fit because he can fit under the end table

I also first learned to sew in home ec. I didn't get a sewing machine for several years after that, and a totally different style machine, so I had to sort of reteach myself. To this day, tensions frustrate the hell out of me!
In regards to the sewing machine, I had never used one prior to last year. There was a learning curve for sure. YouTube and pinintrest became my go to!
For learning to use a sewing machine, turn to you tube!
First, read through your manual. Focus on the threading, straight stitching, and reversing as well as the tension and stitch length. Don't stress too much about the tension and stitch length when you start.
Then go for it! Remember to put the foot down, which is a common mistake to start. When you start go forward three stitches, then back, then forward. That's your "knot". Now see till the end and do forward back forward again.
Go sew a pillow today. Four straight lines!
rondackhiker you make it sound so easy! Now I want to buy a sewing machine today!
Check craiglist.
Though some shops do a free class if you buy a machine through them.

@ivdonethisb4 I just started playing around w mine- I started w some knot beanies which are relatively simple- I have made a few pairs of pants, sone moccasins and my latest was a seat cover (my LO has been sitting in his sister pink flower cover) not that it's a big deal I just had extra material bust that sucker out! And play around!
Nothing extremely special but it will work I need to get the straps in the wash!
Oh gotcha! E doesn't have those currently but he's grinding on things toward the back. 1year molars maybe?
Poor guy can't just pop one at a time. With his first tooth it was actually the front two on top AND bottom then here recently the two eye teeth on top.
I'm sure I'll wake up one day and he'll have a mouthful.
****** Don't overthink the sewing and keep a stitch picker handy. I cursed at my machine frequently at first and contemplated launching it into the yard via catapult. I finally sought out some tutorials and I finished my blanket and I felt awesome.
I need to make a new puff blanket now that we have another on the way. If anyone would like the pattern lemme know

@ivedonethisbefore and carseat I think fabric stores like Joann's have classes you can take to learn the basics. Also YouTube is how I learn everything in life. I'm still scarred from you tubing birthing videos when I was 9 months pregnant. Some things you should learn in the moment...
The nearest Joanns or michaels or hobby lobby is an hour. I've never tried to use a machine. I can hand stitch if necessary but it won't be pretty but I'd like to make things..like mevaroo
Ok, there should be an owners manual with basics on how to set up, thread and operate the machine. Check it out. Then get some fabric scraps and practice stitching . Try straight lines and curves, try putting two pieces together. It is ok to make some mistakes here. Use a medium type of fabric, nothing light like silk, or heavy like denim.
I learned to use a sewing machine in middle school home ec as well, and I used to be pretty good with my mom's machine - I made a few dresses and costumes for school projects. I have forgotten everything I know. I'm considering buying an inexpensive machine and taking a class at Joann. ciaomama spring project for us at the big Joann by you?
I definitely need a refresher. I have a brand new machine at home, I just need to figure out how to use it again.
I'm on a plane, BTW, so I have nothing else to do but refresh this thread. I hope my battery lives. Long travels ahead. Layover in Atlanta. Hi everyone in Atlanta! Then onward to Alabama.
At least it'll be warm in Alabama? I'm told parts of Alabama are very scenic. I have not experienced those parts.
LO leaves daycare at 2 everyday and goes home with her Nana. At 1:50 yesterday I get a text from daycare saying she has a fever and can't come in today. What was her temp... 99.9. For her, that's her teething temp. Her doctor doesn't even consider that a fever. So now I'm at at home with teething monster baby who's upset I won't let her have my coffee.
And of course I love LO and love spending time with her. But 99.9?! With no other symptoms? Really?
