Ok I'm getting a little miffed at the insinuation that we call with fake or exaggerated fevers to lessen our work load.
If you're responsible for 10 infants and one is incredibly clingy, fussy and warm to the touch, yeah you're going to take a temp. That's your responsibility. I'd love to hear what you all would have to say about a daycare not checking and it turning out that a child is running a high fever. Ask anyone who's child has had a febrile siezure. fevers can go from low grade nothing to holy shit scary in a matter of minutes.
But I mean, that's not what I said.
There are daycares who do. Some of DS's teachers told me that's why they left other daycare centers because they thought it sucked.

Dreaming I don't think I mentioned it for some reason. He got whatever bug was going around and it turned into pneumonia. It got pretty bad for a minute there, but yes he's doing SO much better. It ended up being a good thing bc they did some physical therapy with him and got him walking around and doing little exercises. Which is awesome!
OMG so LOs 5th and 6th teeth have just been sitting under the gums in plain sight for a few weeks now. Well one FINALLY broke through! C officially has 5 teeth now! Yaaaay. Now for that 6th to pop the surface and I'll have a big toothy grin for first year pics

1. I don't think anyone was intending to be critical of ECEers as a group. My own comment was more sarcastic than anything.
2. I am absolutely sure this does happen from time to time. I do it as a teacher from time to time -- send a child to the nurse or office when that child is difficult to manage with 31 other children to also attend to.
3. No one said that temps shouldn't be taken. But not allowed at dc for a "temp" of 99? Come on. You must agree this is somewhat redonk.

Most places are great. Some places suck.
You said they try to get children's temps up so they can call in a fever and have less work? So that is what you said. And I was more speaking to @cattucino saying she thinks we walk around checking temps unnecessarily. I mean sure there are shitty care providers out there but that's on you to do due diligence. The majority of us love what we do and if we're calling it's because we want what's best for your child, even if it frustrates you as a parent.
I was asking not insinuating. Don't get your panties in a twist. And seeing as RondackHiker has said she's experienced it, it's not too far out of left field. I don't know day care rules. If it's routine to check, I'm completely supportive of that.

But she cited one example. She didn't say all dcp's do this. Neither rondackhiker nor cattucino were saying that.
So just because you don't do it or haven't worked in a place where it's done, doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

stuck in a box?? I think there are some "bad apples" that unfortunately cry wolf and don't want to deal with them. Whenever LO was in the infant room one caregiver in particular would call me saying LO had a temperature of 102+ and I would run immediately to get him and take him to the doctor and his temp was only 99. I didn't connnect the dots until later whenever she started doing this to another LO and the mom complained on her. Turned out, she only did it whenever they were short staffed.
So honest non-snarky question: low fever, irritability, fussy -- all signs of teething. Is it unreasonable to think that an infant room especially should be able to manage this since it happens to literally all the babies?

Oh I forgot to mention my experience in home ec! I'm sure they were phasing it out by the time I took it my senior year of hs ('05-'06) and it was called life skills. We learned how to hand sew a button, how to change a tire on a car, how to make crepes, and had that fake baby for a week. Oh and how to fill out a job application. I'm sure there was more but that's all I remember. I took it hoping to learn to sew on a machine. I was very disappointed when I found out it wasn't what I expected it to be

I like that making crepes and changing a flat tire are both life skills.
caer it just started snowing here! Good luck with your Party City run! What's your theme? I have center pieces leftover from DS's party if you're going with the whale theme. Let me know!

I wish I'd learned to change a tire before it was a necessity! The way I learned was actually so ridiculous that it sounds like I've made the whole thing up when I tell people the story. (I'll spare you the whole thing, but suffice it to say that it involves Africa, a pothole bigger than our car, rain we couldn't see through, no lights becauseAfrica, a broken jack, and a tarantula.)
I am all for rebuttals, debate and conversation. However it sucks that apparently some people think others aren't permitted to disagree.
Explaining why someone had a *somewhat* more elaborate birthday party for babies that were really hard to get here is considered "being sensitive" to you.
But a few of us discussing whether or not a temperature is a temperature or wondering about routine for this, "miffed" you enough that you used a collective "we" thinking we thought all daycare providers tried to take easy routes and not do their job.

Omg what? Just...what?
you called carseat out on being sensitive for just explaining why her boys' party was what it was.

Not ideal. Life skills sounds like a handy class.
That sounds like the scene out of a movie!
It was our reading week break from school and we (four exchange students) road tripped to Mozambique. That week could definitely have been a movie!
It sounds like this particular DC has a very vague policy on when a child is to be sent home, and probably should be updated to be more specific. I don't know if all centers and IHP work like my precious place of work, but we followed ohio law for DCP when it came to this... there was literally a list on the wall that said a kid had to have 3 episodes of diarrhea before they went home, if throwing up there must also be another symptom or they stay etc.
When I said she wasn't showing other symptoms, I was referring to no cough, runny nose, vomiting, etc. I don't really consider being clingy a symptom since she's generally pretty clingy.
I know daycare has her best interest at heart. And they don't want potential cooties spreading. I would just like to know what they really consider a fever.

Aww, thanks LBS2012. We're actually doing a very causal party with a bit of a "You are my sunshine" theme. I survived party city. It's not snowing here yet but if you have it I guess that means we'll get it soon!

I am dealing with a sick(?) baby at the moment also. I took him to the doctor 2 weeks ago, because daycare said he was tugging at his ears a lot. He did have an ear infection and was prescribed meds. Last Thursday daycare called and said he had a strange rash and that I needed to pick him up. I took him to the doctor again and this time they said he had Roseola. I kept him home Friday just in case and the rash was gone by Saturday. Now this morning I get a call from daycare saying he isn't acting like himself, is extremely grumpy, pulling at his ears, and has a fever of 100.8. I know he is teething, could he be sick too? I don't know what to do. They are supposed to be monitoring him and let me know.
