sleepymonkey, I would suggest testing at 9 or 10 a.m. and then 8 p.m. to catch surges. You probably know this, but first morning urine should not be used. On days that I feel most fertile, I test at 9, 1, and 8.
Like summergirl1211, I've had some months where I did not receive a positive OPK but I still O'ed. I must have missed the surge somewhere.
I'm at work by 7:30am so I have been trying to figure out how I could test discreetly while at work. I feel weird camping out in a stall for 5 minutes but the OPKs are not exactly easily portable when you have to keep them flat. I didn't have this much trouble when TTC #1. I easily got a +OPK each month and had no problems with CM. What a difference 2 years makes!
I've never gotten a positive opk, trying now for three cycles. I always pretty clearly O. I've got the same problem not being able to test at work. I'm trying them again this cycle, I also leave my house at 6:30am and get home around 7:00pm, so I know the timing is not optimal. I usually try once in the AM and right when I get home. I'm hoping I catch it sometime but luckily have the temping info and a fairly consistent cycle most months so I know the ballpark of FW.
TTC since July 2014. CP March 2015. IVF #1 March 2016, 5R, 3M, 2F with ICSI. Transferred 2 on day 3. CP. Surprise BFP and then CP August 2016 (prep cycle for IVF). IVF #2: zero eggs retrieved IVF #3: 6R, 5M, 5F, 3 (2 8A and 1 11A) transferred, one "B" graded embryo frozen on day 5. BFP (at home 7dp3dt, confirmed 14dp3dt with 1552 beta) and U/S at 5w5d, 2 sacs and 2 yolks!

sleepymonkey--This exactly. Its best to test 2x/day so you don't miss the surge if its a short one. I usually test 9 or 10am, and then probably 7pm. Avoid using your first pee of the morning!
I typically have a longer surge (or I catch it on the way up, at peak, and on the way down) when I test 2x/day.
Anyone with thyroid problems? I currently have hypothyroidism, but the endo said one side seemed bumpy which could be Hashimoto's. Just wondering the plan for you if you do.

So I read lots of conflicting information about that. I have always used first morning to test and get negatives and positives exactly when I'd expect. The Clear Blue kit I bought suggests using the first urine of the morning, is it different depending on manufacturer?
I definitely think it depends on the user's typical surge timing. I started testing at noon some days, and I think that is why I was missing some surges.
mazzola23, I have Hashimoto's and had a lump. I am on 50mcg (I think) of Synthroid that I take each morning. I've been on the same dose for years and it's really not a big deal.
The lump removal was surgery but it was there for many years before they finally removed it. If it hadn't been causing me issues they would have let it stay.
Once you are stable it really doesn't have much effect on your TTC according to my endocrinologist. If you get a BFP though they want to keep an eye on it as pregnancy can change things and they may have to adjust doseage but I was told it's not a big deal, they just monitor and adjust.

vh2014 Ok, that's what I thought. I've had hypo since 2009 and currently take 175mcg of Synthroid. At my physical in April my TSH was 13, which is awful. I finally saw an endo who thinks I may have Hashimoto's because she felt some bumps. I go for a sonogram on Tuesday. I went for new blood work yesterday, so I'm hoping to go on a higher dosage. I wasn't sure of having Hashimoto's vs. hypothyroidism changed anything.
For the ladies that use OPKs, do you test at the same time every day? I know that they say that the best time for OPKs is in the afternoon but I work and can't see how I could test while I'm at work. Do anyone do that? I have been testing since CD11 and am currently on CD18 and still haven't turned a test positive. I normally have a 27-28 day cycle so I would think I should have detected the surge by now. I usually test before I leave for work at 6:45am and then around 6:15pm after I get home. I'm trying to figure out if I could have missed by surge or if I may have a really short luteal phase.
I have always caught my surge late at night - this past cycle, I tested at 12:30 AM (I was working from home), and got a positive. Four hours earlier it had been negative. I get 2-3 days of positives, but I don't think it's unusual to have a shorter surge, and it's happening late at night, you may miss it if you're testing late afternoon/early evening.

From what I understand from my doctor, Hashimoto's is the root cause of your hypothyroidism. Basically it just means you have antibodies attacking you thyroid. 13 is awful. Do you temp? I would put money on you having low temps. Once they get it back under control you may notice great changes in how your feel overall!
vh2014- my temps during the day are usually lower than my first temp in the AM. A lot of them pre-O hover between 97.3 and 97.5 and during the day might be lower.

Well, there goes that theory.
Funny you say that though because I've noticed if I take my temp on first waking like I'm supposed to it's actually sometimes higher than if I lay in bed for an hour and check my email... or even get up and go to the bathroom and come back. According to everything I've read the reason you are supposed to take it before moving is because it will go up... nope... mine goes down... yep... I'm always the weirdo. LOL. I do record waking temp like you are supposed to but I'm curious so I like to take it to see what it does.
For those using Pre-seed, do you use it every time you DTD or just during your FW and use regular lube all the other times? That stuff is expensive so I would like to make it last in case it takes awhile to GKU.
sleepymonkey, you asked this a while ago already but I wanted to share what I read on the Dutch preseed website just the other day. They disadvice using preseed throughout your cycle/constantly as it could possible unbalance the pH of your vagina making you more prone to VB and infections. They suggest to use regular lube during your non-fertile days, not in the least because of the cost, also I O around CD15 myself so I start using preseed from like CD7 till a couple of days after O (so usually say till FF confirms O) and use a regular lube the rest of my cycle.
So here's a question, and I'm warning you, it's a little TMI. I have a mirena in, and it just occurred to me yesterday as I gut it out through AF that the mirena thins the uterine lining during each cycle? Or keeps it from developing the lining? Something like that. I've had it in for a year and a half but never gave it much thought. However, it strikes me that I've not had any actual shedding with any of my periods since I had it implanted.
Here's the thing. I asked my OB about when we could TTC upon removing it, and she said it was safe to start right away. But if I don't have a normal lining, that seems like a bad thing. If my cycles stay normal, I'll ovulate a week or two after having it removed, and it just seems like a potential for either complications or not being able to sustain a pregnancy.
Thoughts? I'm considering moving up the removal date and just going with another form of birth control for a month.
I'm obviously not a doctor but from what I understood while researching the mirena myself is that it (amongst the other things it does) keeps your ute from developing lining = thinner lining = less shedding? I suppose that once it's taken out, the lining will rebuild like in any cycle, so by the time you'd O and possible was to concieve there'll be enough lining again to sustain a pregnancy. I get where you're coming from though and would probably wonder the same myself.. Using another form of birth control for a month to give your ute some 'extra time' so to speak to rebuild the lining sounds like an idea I may consider myself if it was me. Just to be on the safer side I guess? Would it be possible to ask another OB for a second opinion on this?

This is about how my OB explained it. She said that you're essentially good to go right away though your cycle might be wonky for a bit. Mine was "regular" immediately, but I do know some people have an off cycle or two so might not hurt to wait a bit if it concerns you.

ladystrat, For what it's worth my gyn/ob also said as soon as mirena is removed you are safe to ttc. Safe to ttc doesn't equal a pregnancy. My concern would not be greater than desire meaning if a Pg was achieved progesterone pills/creams are available. If you achieved a pregnancy within a cycle or two after removal ask for progesterone levels to be checked as a precaution. I wish you well but would caution not to overthink it!
Re: Mirena. My OB also said we were good to TTC as soon as it was removed and that fertility returns right away. He said no studies link Mirena to miscarriage (due to thin lining or otherwise), but that if I wanted I could wait a couple of cycles before trying, just for peace of mind. That's what I opted to do.
I had a light period each month while I used Mirena. I had it removed early in one cycle (CD6), waited another full cycle after that, and then conceived this month.

Yeah, it's so strange. I'm going on Thursday to discuss my new blood results and had a sonogram yesterday. I'm hoping she can up my dose.
Ran some errands with the dude this afternoon and mentioned rescheduling. I couldn't wrap my head around moving the date for some reason, so we're sticking with 9/8. That's our day. I WILL ask about progesterone checks, though. That's a good idea.
Glad to read you came to a plan that put your mind at ease some. GL!
Dredging this puppy up to ask about POM juice and pineapple core. What do they do, and what do I do with them? And when?
I think I have this down: Supposedly pomegranate is good for thickening the lining of your uterus so you drink it while WTO (or take supplements) and then pineapple (specifically bromelian and its most concentrated in the core) is good for helping support implantation so eat it in the TWW.

...lurking...
On the pineapple core or bromelain (it's available as a supplement too and it smells like pineapple) front - only for the 5 days post O then you're supposed to stop according to what I read online.

ladystrat, I read that taking 1 baby aspirin per day during the TWW can give the same effect as pineapple core (both are supposed to help drive blood to the uterus which can help with implantation). I find it easier to take the aspirin than eat pineapple (I can't stand when it's not totally ripe) so I did that last month. After 1 month of drinking 8oz of pom each day before O and then switching to baby aspirin during the TWW, I found my period to be more normal than it had been the previous few months when it was incredibly light and short. I'm hoping that means it helped!

Wow, thanks all! I bought a bottle of POM at Sam's yesterday and will start drinking it this morning.
Where do you find the supplement? I love pineapple, but it tears my mouth up. And does the bottle indicate how much to take?
I think GNC may carry it and Amazon I beleive has them as well. We order the pet version for our babies via Amazon since it's considered nature's aspirin and we don't like to drug our furbabies up if we don't have to
I bought the bromelain from Amazon. Is there a way to take concentrated POM juice in a capsule too?
Oh, how great would that be?! I gagged it down this morning. Bleh.
I thought it was kind of gross when I first tried it. It reminds me of really strong cranberry juice. But after a day or so, I don't mind it now. I'm actually glad because I wouldn't want to be tempted to drink more than 8oz of it a day since it's expensive and has a lot of calories. Looking on Amazon, it looks like they do sell pomegranate supplements.

What CD would the bromelian need to be taken?
1-5 DPO... depending on what you read... some say 7 some say 6-10 but haven't seen anything past 10DPO. Last "cycle" I think I did days 2-8 because I could tell I was getting crosshairs at 2.
I saw this link somewhere on the another board during my lurking moments. I did the pom and soda water this cycle from cd 1-13. The soda water makes it actually taste better. Kroger has their own brand which was cheaper then the others. I don't know if it has worked yet be we will see what happens.
wirt2cute, I will be stalking... Also, found the capsules on Amazon. I'm actually going to swing by the Vitamin Shoppe and see if they have them. Would like to read bottles first. The list of pills I have is now getting crazy. LOL
