walkek85 for poop we also watched for signed. We have extra reward for poop. We even rewarded farting on the potty.
Also, were are in underware now. We took DD shopping and she picked them out. A pack of frozen underware with "Anna" and then a pack of boys minions underware. She's doing much better in them than the solid color ones I picked her up. It's like she doesn't want to pee in "Anna" or minions.
I put a pull up on him (I know it is a big no-no, but I don't have undies yet) when we went to the park this morning and he stayed dry and let out a massive pee when we got home. Hopefully this means undies will go well and he won't confuse them for diapers. Thanks for the poop tips, I will be sure to keep an eye out for the first signs of poop and get him to the potty. Hopefully that will cement the idea that poop goes in the potty into his brain.

I haven't had a chance to read all the messages in the thread yet, but I had a quick question for those reading Oh Crap. I know the author doesn't seem to like rewards for pottying, but somedays it's soooo hard to get her to go.
She doesn't have a lot of accidents (except with poop, we're one week in) but she is a camel and holds it forever, so most times sitting on the potty takes 10 minutes or more and sometimes she still doesn't go. Is anyone rewarding going on the potty? I guess trying it wouldn't hurt, right?
We do a prize for a poop in the potty but no reward for a pee. He is also a camel and can hold his pee for long periods of time so not a ton of issues with pee but we are trying to get him to tell us he needs to poop. When he starts farting a lot or shows signs that he has to poop we remind him not to poop in his pants and that he gets a prize for pooping on the potty.
We did the first 2-3 days. Then stopped once we realized a peepee dance singing "pee pee" was majorly rewarding for her. I didn't read any books so this may not be 'recommended'.
angelsnight , I originally was giving stickers but then after reading the book I stopped.
Honestly, I would just push through. I wouldn't start a reward system.
Thanks, I decided not to. Despite knowing she is a camel, I sometimes forget just how much. Today I decided to let her call the shots more...if she doesn't go within 30-60 seconds of sitting on the potty, she probably doesn't have to. Worked well today.

DD is a camel too. I just tried to give prompts and then trust her. It's so hard though. We are so used to doing and deciding everything for them. To me, that was the hardest part of the whole process, trusting that she would let me know.

I agree. The trusting she would let me know and that she would notice the signs herself was hard.
Also, her coming off the potty without peeing multiple times back to back was frustrating before we figure out she's "working on" a poop. When she needs to go/is ready to go it happens pretty quickly once she's on the potty.
I did not do rewards. I let her decide when she needs to go. I kept the floor potty in the living room for almost 2 months so it was always accessible. Then I would just catch her eye and point to the potty, if she needed to go she would. I was mainly reminding her that it was there. Now it is in her bedroom and she will run back there to use it. Our toilets are tall ones and she can not use them by herself even with a stool.
Funny story: I was picking her up from daycare not too long ago and I always make her go before we leave. She went into the potty area while I was talking with her teacher then suddenly started to scream. When I went to check on her, she had forgot to lower the seat and had fallen into the toilet. All you could see was her feet and head sticking out. I almost cried I was laughing so hard (after I made sure she was alright) now every time I have her sit on a big potty, she looks at me and says "fall down and holds on to me with a death grip!
So we are starting potty training today. Our plan was to generally follow the Oh Crap model and have her go bottomless for the weekend at least. But this morning, she freaked out as soon as I tried to take her pants and diaper off and insisted on at least wearing pants. She keeps saying she doesn't want to go on the potty or on her potty seat. She's never had a reaction like this to the potty and I have no idea what to do. It seems like she's scared or feels too much pressure. She's also really clingy to me and whiney, which she isn't normally. So I put her pants on and have the potty chair accessible. She's definitely resisting so I'm not pushing. But I don't want to give up and just put a diaper back on. Any advice? I'm at a loss.
Eta to add that she has not yet peed or pooped. She's only been awake for an hour and half.
katka512 has she used the potty on other days? The toddler teacher at our Montessori school refers to peeing/pooping in ones pants as "learning opportunities" instead of accidents. So first I would try waiting it out. Maybe she pees in her pants, but that's okay, she'll work out that, that is not so fun. My DD mostly skipped the naked part too and is doing well now.

She has sporadically in the past. Today is the first day we are actually potty training. The times she did use the potty previously, she has just decided to do it on her own and it only happened 2-3 times. I'll try to relax a bit haha I'm sure she'll pee in her pants at some point today. I'm just concerned that she seems afraid of and very resistant to the potty. Maybe if she wets herself enough, it'll click...
Oh yes! She has been watching me In the bathroom for a long time. And we'd talk about how to use the potty too. I'm honestly really surprised by her reaction today.
katka512, keep pushing forward. We had resistance too and it got better. Just don't give her the option of diapers. I highly suggest no diapers during nap time.
Personally, I would stay in an area you don't mind her having accidents for a day or two and just get her on the potty the best you can. I promise it will click and just happen. I was devastated by day 3, no pee got in the potty. Then day 4 she was on the potty the whole time, even self initiating.
@babylentilbean thank you for the encouragement! She seems to already to making progress. No pee on the potty yet but she'll at least sit on it now right after I run her over when she pees. We've been outside or on bare floor all day in case of accidents. For naps, what do you recommend: a bare bottom, underwear, pants, pull up?

For naps I just kept her bare and put a blanket over her. She wet the bed a few times but hasn't since the first week of training.
Nights: she still has an occasional accident.
I hit several "rough" spots with DD. I just kept pushing forward and now she is trained just as well as my 4 yo niece.

I would avoid all diapers during the day. It forces them to figure it out.
DD did awesome today! By the end of the day she was telling us when she needed to go to the potty! I am so proud of her. No poops today but I'm not surprised. We did do a pull up at nap and bedtime but maybe I'll skip it tomorrow for nap. What do you do in the very early days of PT and going out of the house? I want to venture out this week but I'm afraid of accidents in public.

Stick to very short trips at first. Make sure she potties before you leave the house. Do you have a sense of when she tends to potty? E doesn't go much in the morning. I am not sure when her last pee in her diaper is before she wakes up, but I don't think she has ever gotten out of bed, gotten the diaper off and went in the potty. She usually doesn't go in the potty till at least 10 or 11, so in the beginning we crammed our outings in before noon.
Make sure to carry at least an extra pair of underwear (if she's in undies right now) and pants. I also had her sit on a puppy pad in her car seat and at the store (in the cart) so if she did have an accident it wouldn't be every where. Thankfully (knock on wood) she's never had an accident out in public and we don't bother with puppy pads anymore. Good luck!

I never put a diaper on DD. I always reminded her that we don't pee and poop in our pants, that she needs to tell me she needs to go. I take extra clothes, I used to take the potty seat and made as many stops as she needed to sit her on it. Make your trips short and take her to the bathroom right when you get there and possibly before you leave, depending on how long you are there.
Just know she will have accidents in public but that's part of the learning process. Just stay calm, clean her up and remind her that we pee and poop in the potty not our pants.
We had given up on PT because DS1 just wasn't getting it and with the birth of DS2 it was just too much for me to handle. Well DS1 has been quite obviously hiding when he poops so today we decided to keep a close eye on him and usher him to the bathroom when he has to poop so he could go on the potty. Well the second time he went DH was standing outside the bathroom and DS got up and closed the bathroom door. It was super cute/funny. When DH went in to check to see if he was done he said "nope, close door please". So funny! I guess the dude just needs privacy.
DD says go away when she's on the potty and makes me close the door. Then if she's pooping, the whole time she's in there, she says mommy don't come in. And if she's using her little potty, she tells me not to look at her. It's so cute.
Has anyone been dealing with regression? DD went a month with no accidents, last week she had one almost everyday, and stopped in front of DH and I, looked us in the eye then peed on the floor in our living room.. Daycare keeps telling me it is just a phase that they can go through and a few other kids are having the same problem.
Since she knows what is expected of her do I respond negatively to her having an accident (tell her no, that big girls do not pee on the floor), or still treat her like when she just started with its OK we just need to do it right next time?

We are going through a regression too. She has had several accidents in the last week. I personally don't ever say it's ok when she pees in her pants. I tell her the same thing that I have always said, "we don't pee pee or poo poo in our pants. We pee pee and poo poo in the potty." I also make her help me clean it up.
