Good friends of ours had their 4th child on Friday, a girl who was 3.5 weeks early. The mom had mentioned possibly being induced, but she ended up with a c section. Well, the day after baby was born, we found out she has congenital heart disease. Then today we found out she was confirmed to have down syndrome. The baby will be in the NICU for awhile, possibly a year. Their whole lives are turned upside down. The dad has a very demanding military job and the hospital she delivered at is over an hour away from their home, so the mom and other kids will have to be in an extended stay place close to the hospital. I just can't imagine what they are going through.
Wow. That is a lot for a family to be hit with. A year in the NICU? That is going to be tough, especially with 3 older kids. Was the heart defect missed at the a/s?
They were fully aware of the heart issue, and of course aware of their chances for down syndrome from their scans. So they were as prepared as they could be, but still.... not sure anything really can prepare you for it.

This is so horribly sad. Is there a Ronald McDonald house nearby that can offer any assistance? There must be a social worker at the hospital trying to help them find arrangements, right? I can't imagine the heartbreak the family, especially your friend, is going through right now.
I'm not sure who is responsible for setting them up with everything, but I'm pretty sure they are getting the help and attention they need. Someone also set up a food train for them, so we'll be sending them a meal.
We had our first parenting group meeting tonight. I learned:
1.) My kid is the fussiest of the 9 2.) I might have PPD based on the test I took.
Overall it was a great evening. Hahahaha
My first was really fussy for the first six months or so and it was really hard and contributed to some mild PPD. I didn't even realize it until later so it was untreated. Please don't feel bad about having a discussion with your OB or primary care physician. They can help you!

Again, so sorry for their family. I'm glad to learn that they are getting support. That's so good. It will ease things for the family but the emotional grief will still be there. Sending good thoughts and best wishes for things working out better than anticipated.

chatterbox, you had an eventful last week with birthday and moving, right? Sorry I missed it at the time, but hope you had a good birthday and that the dust is settling from your move.
Thanks! The move went pretty smoothly and we're liking it here so far!!!

So much this. I try to tell everyone I can about fussy babies because no one did so for me. I think it also impacted the bond that we could have had together as I notice a huge difference with V.
Don't hold back any frustrations here. We are here to listen. And definitely mention something to your PCP.

She is great! After the first 6-7 months we got her down to one wake up and sleeping better helped immensely. She was happier the more mobile she got too. She's three right now and even though that age has its challenges, she is pretty awesome. We have very few issues with her and it keeps getting better .
Babies are tough. Even though this baby is easier I'd still pick the toddler stage over the baby stage. Once they have more of a personality and can communicate with you I think it's more enjoyable. There is a light at the end of the tunnel!
Just took E back to the pedi. He had mucus in his stool and they think he has a milk protein allergy. If this is what has caused him to be fussy for the last 2.5 months I will buy you all a round of drinks and then yell at the pedi that took this long to figure it out.

Is it just mucous or is there still poop in there? Can they test him or do you have to try a new formula? Hopefully he'll just need a different brand or a sensitive formula and not hypoallergenic. That stuff is expensive.

I brought a diaper and they tested it, there was blood. We're trying hypoallergenic, it is crazy expensive!!! But honestly, to see my baby happy... totally worth it. Think good thoughts for us. Might have to take out a second mortgage on the new house though.
xxkimmy8xx - good luck. It sucks to see them in pain or not know what to do for them. We're dealing with mucus but no blood. Hoping it's just a virus that's taking forever to get out of her.
H took LO for a Pokemon go walk, lol. He said where there was a training gym there were like 10 kids just hanging out in the parking lot on their phones.
Edit: that is a Pokemon training gym, not a real gym.

Ugh. Sorry you are dealing with it and that it took so long to figure out. DS2 had a milk sensitivity (which isn't that rare) and we did Nutramigen. So expensive but worth it to help with the discomfort. He cried for the first 2 months of his life and the switch to hypoallergenic formula helped. He still can't drink straight milk to this day.
Ask your pedi for as many samples as possible. My pedi gave me as many as he could. It was a huge help. Many kids grow out of it, so you can try regular formula every few months. At 6 months, we moved to a sensitive formula and he was fine.
How is it that H and I can move a changing table out f the room where LO is sleeping w.o waking her up, but my dad's gf can't even be on the same floor of the house with her without waking her up.

Probably because she is an unfamiliar sound. K sleeps through all of her brothers' loudness, but when we were at a friend's house the other day, her 2 year old woke up K a couple times even though he was just as loud as my boys are.

Guys. This is TMI, but I want to cry. I haven't pooped since Wednesday or Thursday. I just ate too much in hopes that would move things along... now I just feel sick. I really didn't want to have to resort to laxatives, but geezus, this isn't fair! Is it too much to ask to just be able to poop??

I went for one today as well. It was funny to see everyone beeline for the church closest to me (apparently it's a Pokestop).
Third night of multiple motn wake ups due to gastro issues most likely caused bythis allergy, poor little buddy. I'm fearing a sleep regression once this is all said and done. I forgot what this sleep deprivation thing is like!

More like she is not capable of not dropping things super loudly or slamming doors...

Coffee?
Blech. Wish I liked coffee if only for this reason!

It's like you walk around and find them. Like in the real world, and it can use your camera to show them. Idk it's not really my cup of tea, but it's easy to spot ppl playing also it's got H all happy to walk places. And there is a poke stop next to the nearest ice cream place and he walked to get me a milkshake so it's way better than anything else he has played. Other games don't usually involve me getting a milkshake.

This must be why someone was walking down the road with traffic with their head in their phone. I foresee many pedestrian deaths that will be attributed to this.

I actually just read an article yesterday about the serious injuries caused by this game.
