I'm taking 12 weeks. But, I'm finishing experiments so I can write papers and grants while I'm off. I'm not good with the whole "no working" thing. I'm looking forward to a break/change of pace/different focus for a bit, though!
I'll be in lab until my water breaks. Wheeeee.
Also? I'm GBS+. BOOOOO. I was hoping for no IVs in the hospital, but it appears I'll have one at least some of the time.
I had to write 30 report cards during my mat leave. It was kind of a bummer
Hey guys - still need to catch up on everything since I've been busy since I woke up this morning.
Just returned from my OB appt. They did an ultrasound since I'm 40 weeks today. Baby is measuring 8lbs 12oz, head is down, and I still have lots of fluid. Baby did fine on the NST, and then doc did a cervical check. As I expected, I'm still only 1cm dilated, and now 70% effaced. Doctor said he wanted to schedule an induction for 8/12, and I asked if he could do it any sooner, due to baby's size. He said he would see about Monday. Of course, the office just called me and they don't have room on Monday, so Friday 8/12 it is.
I'm a mess, you guys. I'm looking at a possibly tough induction, assuming I don't progress any further on my own this week, and then a 9lb+ baby at the end of it all. I just really wanted to go into labor on my own, and I'm so angry that my body hasn't done that, and I really don't expect anything to change in the next week. Please feel free to share any positive induction stories, especially if your cervix wasn't very "favorable" to begin with 😔
I had an induction scheduled Sunday night and was maybe a fingertip dilated with DD the Friday before. I went into labor Sunday morning on my own. I've also read that babies don't gain too much weight after 40 weeks (of course I couldn't find any studies during my quick google). You never know.
MrRama got into an accident this morning on his way to work. Everyone is [currently] physically okay, but our car is totaled. We're a single-vehicle household and we absolutely need a car. I'm stressing big time.
Yikes! Didn't see your post...I'm glad he's okay, but that definitely is stressful! Will insurance be able to help you guys with a rental and getting funds for a car quickly?
hummingbird125 I'm sorry that you aren't progressing more and annoyed that they are scheduling for 8/12 instead of earlier! Induction with DD was painful (but I've nothing to compare with and I have low pain tolerance), but it went fine. I hope that *if* you make it to induction, you won't be too nervous and it will take.
I can't keep track with who's getting induced when today (my head is fried), but getting a Bishop's Score before induction will tell you something about the likelihood of the induction taking. It was something my doula and OB mentioned at some point.

My induction is in a week and I haven't had any cervical checks yet. I was a little surprised but they told me they don't plan on checking until right before the induction. Idk if that's because mine is a scheduled one at 39 weeks though.
**Anyone else having issues with TCF while mobile (mobile site and not TapaTalk)?? I keep refreshing and there are no updates but then just about five minutes ago, there's two pages of updates for today's randoms.

The score is done right before the induction - where you are when the induction will start.
I haven't had any cervical checks either. All practices are different.

I think I must be the only person here that is happy that DH dosent have paternity leave. He is self employed, and can take whatever time he needs off. But he WILL go to work for at least a few hours everyday after I get out of the hospital. I think we would both go crazy if we were to be around each other 24/7 right after she is born. The fact he can come home if I need him, is all I need. He is pretty good about coming home when ever I just can't deal with something, so that is good for me. I do better having things done my way, and that stresses him out, as he is the same way. So for us less is better.

Talking about inductions made me finally go and find the actual paper about how inductions at full term (39-just before 41) do not raise the risk of c-section and appear to improve some neonatal outcomes. For anyone stressing about induction, here's the link to the abstract (those of you with scientific journal access will be able to get the full text I imagine). There's also a nice write-up by Expecting Science on the issue that seems fairly balanced in my reading.
It's amazing how the thinking on this changed between my first and now...just 4.5 years.
hummingbird125 I'm so sorry. If it helps, I am facing induction on Monday night and my cervix is soft, about 70% effaced but still not at all dilated. According to the Bishop score thing joy just posted I only get a 6. But my doctor did not seem concerned about the induction working.
The good news about them waiting until Friday is that gives you more time to progress on your own. Is Baby engaged in your pelvis yet? If he is, just the pressure of his weight on your cervix could make a big difference between now and then. If not, maybe there are techniques/positions you could try to help him drop.
Is acupuncture a possibility? I know there are treatments they can do to help. The treatments are additive so going every day makes more difference but my acupuncturist said even just doing it once can help.
It can't hurt to try any of the natural techniques people have mentioned but the two that I have heard are most proven as effective are sex and nipple stimulation.
Sorry I poofed for a while. I went home and am trying to work some stuff out.
MrRama is almost definitely 100% at fault, unfortunately. So without collision insurance, we're just SOL. We'll be looking into our options on the short and long terms, but ultimately, we need a car. Which could very well be what we have to spend our treatment money on, whether we like it or not.

Leak is contained, my debit card number is changed, and H just left to do SAT tutoring. I think I am going to hide in the house for the rest of the day. God bless Legos, because DS is quite content to sit on the floor and built things around our (very cooperative) dog. Thanks, guys!

I feel like I'm back in 1st Tri! The last few days I've had absolutely no energy and get nauseous. Trying to stay hydrated but the water is making me sick. Anybody else feel this way?
joy, Interesting! I was never told about the Bishop score when I was induced with DD. I guess my OB wasn't concerned because I was already relatively dilated and effaced (I don't remember the numbers though).

Yes!!! It's really annoying. It just seemed to start about a week ago.

Yes, absolutely. And I don't have enough Diclegis left to up my doseage and I don't want to shell out for more.

Feeling it here as well. I read somewhere that nausea can be a sign of labor coming on sooner than later (which I hope is true!). I've had bouts of nausea off and on since last Friday (at 38w). I'm just having ginger ale and trying to sit or lay down (which ever makes me feel better) when it comes around, ameliabird.

I've had a lot of nausea lately too. I actually woke up in the middle of the night last night and ran to the toilet, feeling like I was about to puke. Standing up for a while and eating some crackers/sipping some water eventually helped me feel better. When water makes me feel sick, I mix in one of those flavor packets (I like fruit punch and cherry pomegranate) it definitely helps it go down easier for me.
