Ok ladies. How does your baby do with breast milk out of a bottle? We'd given bottles in the beginning when we supplemented and she did great. Now we give the occasional pumped bottle when MH feeds her and it does not go well. She has a really hard time regulating how fast it's flowing and gulps it down. Our pedi suggested sitting her up more and holding the bottle horizontally. That helps some but she still chokes. Tonight she scares the shot out of me with how bad she was coughing and sputtering. What else can I do to help her with this? We have tom.me.e tipp.ee bottles and are using the slow flow nipples. We've got about 5 weeks until I go back to work so she needs to be able to take a bottle.
Edit... sorry for all the typos. So tired.
When MH gives a bottle he sits on the sofa with his feet up on the ottoman and his knees up, then rests the baby against his thighs so she is almost fully upright. That seems to help with regulating the flow. He also breaks every 1/2 oz or so to try to burp her or just let her breathe.

My DS had the same issue. We tried a bunch of different bottles/nipples including what you're using, and eventually settled on the Dr. Brown's bottles with the vent system, and using the preemie nipples. Even the "slow flow" nipples were too fast for him. I would definitely recommend trying preemie nipples! DS still spits up more with bottle feeding than with breastfeeding, but he definitely takes in and keeps down most of the bottle without trouble. Also, we don't even really do "paced feeding" because we realized it just made him upset and he was probably taking in more air by crying/screaming when we tried to pace him. Good luck!

How can I tell if I have a supply issue and LO isn't getting enough at feedings? He'll usual go 3 hours between feeds until the last two days. I know it could be a growth spurt, but I also haven't felt full or let down as much. But also not sure if since he's eating every 1.5-2 hours if he's just snacking and it's become a cycle. He's putting out enough wet/poop diapers.

My understanding is that enough wet diapers means they are getting enough. It is probably just a growth spurt and you probably aren't feeling as full because you're going less time between feedings.
If you're worried, is there somewhere you could go to do a weighted feed? Maybe the pediatricians office or a BF specialty store?

Pretty sure mine has this catch 22 cycle. He eats every 2 hours because he won't let it fill up long enough to get more milk. So it's like snacking all day.
I read that right when they are done eating, if they pull off themselves and smile and act content it means they got enough. (even if they are eating again relatively soon). If they finish and seem agitated or looking for more, it means they didn't get enough.
spicysalmonroll I read an article (let me see if I can find it!) about bm production- breasts start producing milk right away and you don't need to feel full for there to be enough for baby. This article addresses a slightly different issue but does bring up really relevant points to your issue!

hannahbear wow super informative, thank you!! Now I feel conflicted because I have been "making him wait" to hit that 2 hour mark and maybe I shouldn't be. But...I also have to live my life without him attached 24/7. It's a hard balance.

I had this 2 hour cycle with DD1 until she was eating 3 meals of solids including full fat yogurt and meat (8 mo.) and I could finally stretch her to a 3 hour spacing. Looking back I am still unsure if it was snacking or her lip tie or my supply/letdown or what.

DD eats every 2 hrs during the day (2 hours from when her feed ends to when the next starts), but then gives me a 5 hr stretch and a 3.5 hr stretch at night. I honestly think she's just greedy. She's gaining weight really well, plus if I pump she eats 4oz and wants to eat again at the 2 hr mark.
So the 2 hr thing may be that your baby is just big/greedy like mine.

I forgot that one. DD1 started out in the 25th percentile for weight.
At 6 months she was in the 90th, where she stayed until 2.
So after spending my entire maternity leave dealing with feeding issues & seeing 2 speech pathologists weekly, too much weight loss, latch issues, nipple pain/damage, baby falling asleep at the breast, mastitis, using a nipple shield that fell off constantly, tongue tie & 2 revisions, EPing and bottle feeding (exhausting) ...
I went back to work and my LO finally got the hang of it, right in the nick of time. She's finally latching pretty good, my nips are recovering & she's getting enough milk at the breast. I'm now able to breastfeed her before work, during lunch break and then again at home. It's so worth it now but it really sucked at the time. I feel like my whole leave was spent dealing with feeding issues.
TTMA poop: DS frequently had green colored poo. At this stage should it be more yellow? I remember reading green might be a sign that he's getting the less fatty BF. Is that true? I ask bc DS has seemed less content after nursing. Today I decided to give a bottle after he was screaming an hour after nursing. He nursed for close to 20 minutes. Then an hour later drank 2 oz.
I think I had a small clog this morning. She seemed to nurse it away by about noon, but I've still felt a sore spot leftover all day. There's no lump there. I hope it's not still clogged!

Green can be normal, a sign of too much foremilk, or an allergy thing. Do you have signs of an oversupply or any other reason to think he isn't getting hindmilk?

No oversupply. No other reason. But I do keep going back and forth about milk intolerance. Today his one poopy diaper was pure green mucous. However his silent reflux had calmed down or he got used to it...
Any other EBF babies spit up any colored product in their spit up? LO had a smidge of egg yolk yellow slime in her small "happy spit" - possibly partially digested milk? It was very close to the color of her poop. It's the first time it happened here and has me nervous.

Haven't had this, so no advice. DD has watery (clear or white) and then curdeled white. Hopefully the yellow is nothing.

DD2 would after Prevacid (reflux meds) - it turned spit up purple. Could Vitamin D drops be the cause?

Gak. I haven't even remembered to give them to her this week. 😞

Did you see the post going FB showing how a mothers milk can change to what the baby needs? A woman took a pic of her white pumped milk at night then nursed a sick baby all night, and when she pumped in the morning it was yellow like colostrum. The milk had changed to give the sick baby extra antibodies. This could have happened with yours.

I didn't see that post, spicysalmonroll, but that would make sense. It hasn't happened since so I guess there's no reason to call the pediatrician about it. I've just never seen anything like that before.

What does it mean when your supply is regulated? Is it like - you can't increase it anymore? Or that you produce the same amount all the time? That you don't get engorged?

I see it as regulated to what the baby needs. Baby will still have growth spurts and increase the supply then.
