Where are you guys buying hair accessories to do pigtails?
DD still puts everything in her mouth so I was worried she could pull them and choke on them. Are there ones made for toddlers that are safe to use? The ones I saw at the store said only for age 3+.
Also is anyone else's kid taking really off naps lately? I was thinking she is going through a growth spurt. The past 2 days she wakes at 6am all excited and then is ready for a nap and asleep again by 730am.
I just can't get her back to sleep at 6am because she is all excited to wake up

We just use those really tiny black rubber bands for her ponys. She hasn't pulled one out yet:)
mrsmonogrammedKristykristyleelee thanks guys! I'll look for these. Her hair is getting long in back but still short in front so she currently sports a mullet:)
I have one, but it's grammar related. So wayyyyy back when I first had LO, I realized I wasn't entirely sure about how to use a possessive apostrophe with his nickname, which ends in S. I had assumed it would be (for example) Chris' boat. So I googled it and found at the time that it should be Chris's boat. But...now I'm wondering if I was just completely sleep deprived and that's wrong? I re-googled last week and found conflicting information. Can it be both ways? HELP ME. (I feel like such a dope right now, so please be nice!)
(I think I read that the s' is only in times of plural. So like: the kids' boat (multiple kids) And since Chris isn't plural, I should add the extra S.)
veggiemo I always have my students follow the Purdue Owl...it's the most widely-accepted set of grammar rules I have found. The Owl says either way is fine!

@poppyc8 our naps have been off too. I thought he was going to one a day last week then he started back to taking two. The first is within 1.5-2 hours of waking, but it seems to have coincided with him walking more.
My boss just looked it up in his Elements of Style book (White and Strunk). It says Chris's is the correct way.
But like mcp6286 says, I think both are probably acceptable, depending on your source.
Yup, old school English teachers would tell you to religiously follow Elements of Style but most of my colleagues will teach the kids to write "Chris' boat". Personally, I give students the choice. This is why everyone hates grammar lol
veggiemo I always thought that both ways were acceptable. However I always use s' for names. So, Chris' boat. It just looks cleaner to me so I like it better.
*note to self, do not name subsequent children names that end in s.
My stupid question is do you give your LO protein at EVERY meal? also how many baths a week do you give?
I do try for some protein at every meal, however I'm probably most lax about it at breakfast time. Baths for us are probably 2-3x's a week, but she's not getting very dirty yet:)

I try to offer protein at every meal, or just about. Whether or not he eats it is an entirely different story. Some meals he can scarf down an entire sausage or half a burger, the next he will barely take a bite. I just keep hoping it evens out, and push milk as much as possible for extra protein.

We offer protein at most every meal, but it she doesn't always eat a ton of it. Last night she tore up some pork steak though And we give baths every night, basically because she loves them and it has always just been part of the routine.
My question is hair related as well. How on earth are you all able to do cute ponies and pig tails?? I really suck at it!

LO doesn't love meat, but will eat cheese, greek yogurt, eggs for protein. Sometimes will have turkey meatballs. I would say usually at least one meal per day includes protein.
I was googling toddler development books and a few say any tv under 2 is horrific so now I feel ridden with guilt.
Unless you are plopping him in front of the tv his every waking hour, don't get yourself all worked up over some TV time.
If we are home, the TV is pretty much always on. Whether it is the news, Nick JR, some random show that no one is watching. It's on.
Amelia NEVER sits and watches it. She may dance along to some music, but she isn't really that interested in it yet.
I have done no research on this, but don't work yourself up over it.
Thanks. This kid will point to the remote and stare at me until I play the videos he likes to watch, mostly elmo songs and some russian musical cartoons. He will sit for a good 20 minutes watching at least twice a day.
We offer protein at every meal but whether or not she eats it is a different story lol. Generally, she loves eggs, PB and beans but hates red meat. I also hate red meat, so I'm unsurprised. DH thinks the sky has fallen.
We bathe every day, sometimes multiple times. Call me speshul. My kid loves baths (any water play, really) and also loves mud and smearing food in her hair. You get the picture.
holliberry28 Hayley watches TV with us every day but it's not like she's sitting there staring at it. She notices it every now and then while playing but quickly moves on. From my nannying experience, around 2 years old (when they really watch it and prefer/request certain shows) is when most parents start controlling time. I had one family with a hard and fast "no tv" rule but in my experience they were the exception, not the norm. ETA: except Gilmore Girls. She will legit sit herself in her high chair and watch a whole episode of that

The TV is usually on if we are in the living room, but O isn't really interested in the TV just yet. She may look at it if something catches her attention, but she looses interest very quickly.

Other questions that I can answer have been answered the same way I would. As for this, her hair is just so long right now it's easy to get a hold of and wrap it up! Or, when we were camping and I would shower with her in the morning I would stand her in front of the mirror and comb her hair up into a ponytail right then.

I guess I can count this is a huge mom fail. M tantrums and cries when I turn the tv off and can sit and watch for a good 20-30 minutes. Why does my child like tv so much?

LO doesn't tantrum or cry, but she'll sit for an episode of Mickey Mouse clubhouse. Sometimes it's the only way dinner gets made.
holliberry28, no mom fail! V loves her some Mickey Mouse and Disney Jr. She usually watches a 20-25 minute episode in the morning after breakfast and then another after dinner. On the weekends, we let her eat breakfast while watching an episode. Special Saturday/ Sunday mornings! And we usually have the tv on when we are home.
IMO, she plays, reads and stays active the rest of the day, so it's not hurting her,

O is similar with TV and we are not an "always on" family. We don't have a tv in our living room. When it's on he really pays attention (for up to 30 minutes). When he's done paying attention it goes off. I actually like it that way because I feel like I can use TV to get things done or get some me time.

I'm way late to this Q, but as far as little hairties, I like these kind Obvs not J my little baldy but with many a niece/daycare kiddo I find these ones are less apt to snap and easier to take out without trapping and breaking hair. They're a bit more glossy and less rubbery.

As far as TV for us, I keep telling SO we have to start being more conscious of whats on when she's about because she's definitely paying attention now. Even when she's running around playing she'll stop and clap when there's applause, barks or meows at every animal, and just today tried grabbing at a baby mowgli while SS was watching Jungle Book, saying "awww" and hugging the air lol. But then when the snake reappeared trying to eat mowgli she freaked out crying and ran to me. Weve definitely been lax about whats on/what we're watching when she's just in the room playing but I think I have to keep a better eye on it now because she's scaring me with how observant and reactive she's being.

Our naps have been a nightmare the last 2 weeks. I didn't think about him figuring out how to walk! Thank you!!

We use these for C's little antennas as well. They pull out of her hair easily too.
As for tv, she watches the baby channel in the AM while she eats and I generally have hgtv on throughout the day when I'm home. She pays no mind to it. She is usually playing and will even go sit in her room and read her books, play with her stuffed animals or pull all of the things out of her dresser drawers (yay fun!). She gets some time at dinner too. I'm thinking total maybe an hour tops that she's sitting and watching. Even less time on tues and thurs when she's at school all day.
