jennybeans mine kind of wiggles, grunts and roots in her sleep but I have found that she sorts it out herself and goes back to sleep. I am trying to let her self sort it out and not intervene, bc I want her to be able to self soothe. As long as she isn't crying, I leave her alone.

She's not actually asleep which is the hard part for me - i can see her eyes opening in our monitor while she kicks and squirms so I worry about her getting overtired during the day or too far gone in the middle of the night and my natural urge is to "help" her sleep. I'm trying hard this week to back off and let her tell me when she actually needs the help (starts crying and then pick her up or do pats) and hopefully being consistent with that for a couple weeks will help us sort it out and she will relearn since I've been intervening probably too much so far. How is it the two most natural things (sleeping and eating) are so difficult!?

I hear ya. When his cry wakes me up, my first thought is always "let's just see if it's a fluke and he falls back asleep". 8 times out of 10 he starts flailing and SCREAMING very quickly so I know it's not a false alarm and I go feed him. 2 times out of 10 he was just passing gas or something and goes back to sleep. Like I said, with mine I can tell instantly which it's going to be because he's impatient as fuck and wants food NOW. lol

Omg my baby is driving me nuts right now lol. She just ate and I want to go back to sleep so bad, but she's grunting, sighing, wriggling, trying to get out of her swaddle and dramatically spitting her paci out every time I put it back in...

A will do this every early morning/late night. So much kicking and wriggling and arching his back twisting his head. I never can figure out why. I've tried removing the swaddle, keeping the swaddle, moving him down next to me but he keeps doing it no matter what. It usually means we are up for the day. Yet within 15 min he is yawning and looking tired so I don't think it really means he's done sleeping
That hour of the day is hard for them to sleep at. They are well rested enough to make the sleep pressure less. It gets better eventually - I forget when exactly, though.
DS just let out the longest, smelliest fart for such a little person! It starts young for boys... It's funny how so not used to it I am from babies. DD has had bowel issues so very rarely passes gas. And hardly ever did as a baby.

My long stretch sleeper is broken. Without a swaddle she can't manage to sleep for more than 3-4 hours. I'm also over her not sleeping until 1am...
How does everyone function at work with basically no sleep?
In a very, very odd haze. I swear the world was actually fuzzy when DD2 was this age. It felt fuzzy. It looked blurry.
There are lots of good reasons I push my kids to independent sleep as soon as the pediatrician suggests it. My own safe functioning is the top one. DH and I do not do well with insane sleep deprivation.

Not looking forward to this when E starts to roll over and we have to wean the swaddle. Have you tried any of the other sleep blankets that are supposed to help with the transition (zipadee zip, Merlin suit?). We had DS sleep in a loose sleep sack with the armholes sewn closed for a couple nights before moving completely to arms out but I vaguely remember it taking a while until he finally figured out he could roll over to his belly and sleep. I honestly don't remember much from when DS was <6 months old. I existed in a haze and did what I needed to in order to survive. It was early, but we ended up doing sleep training at around 4 1/2 months to work on getting him to sleep and stay asleep because it became unmanageable (didn't nightwean until ~11 months though). I will do that again with E in a heartbeat if we run into the same issues (she is a much better sleeper so far but I don't have hope for sleep regressions..).

jennybeans we have her in a halo swaddle sac with her arms out. She's not rolling consistently to get stomach yet, but has done it enough times that it makes me nervous to have her arms still in. We haven't tried the other sleep outfits but I'm considering it.

Sleep deprivation is so hard.
My husband and I take shifts. We sleep in separate bedrooms (for right now). One of us gets solid uninterrupted sleep while the other sleeps in room with baby and handles her feedings. Then around 3:30am we switch places.
Is your daughter going to daycare? It could be a very good thing because it will likely wear her out and get you guys into a good routine with sleeping & eating schedules. That's what happened with us. Mine used to go to bed between 10:30-11:30 and now it's 7. 7p-7a with a few feedings in between.

Umm... so my child is asleep and has been since 9:45pm (earliest ever!). I told MH I think she gets easily overstimulated. She's sleepy but wants to look around at everything including him playing video games. He also plays with other people do you can hear him talking from our bedroom. I turned on the fan in the bathroom to drown out other noises... not sure if its a fluke, but i think we'll be looking for a white noise machine for her tomorrow. I'm only up now to pump. We'll see how long she sleeps for!

Yes to overstimulation with video game and voices. Hopefully the white noise will help. Can you ask DH to play in another room too?
Edit: re read your post to see he's not playing in the same room. But maybe he can play with a head set?

Yeah, he does play with the head set. He generally plays with other people so he's talking into the head set until all hours (night owl). Our bedroom is right next to the family room so it's not really possible to get away. I've talked to him a few times about how loud he talks, but he doesn't see it as an issue. Since she can take a nap next to him while he plays he says it's not the noise. So now at least I can call bullshit on that!

Shoot. I was pumping in the dark and didn't realize I had overflowed the bottle. Felt wet on my leg, turned the light on and there is a giant puddle of breastmilk on the floor. Cleaning the floor is not what I wanted to be doing at 4:30am.
People with oversupply - what do you do about the constant milk everywhere?? It's disgusting. I leak in the bed every night. I leak on my clothes during feedings. I spray all over the place when the babies pull off. And I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the pump off and my shirt back on without dripping/spraying everywhere. I feel like everything I own is covered in sour milk. I wear breast pads at all times but they shift or get full and I end up leaking anyway.
Oh no boca 😱 I'm sorry. Does tucking a towel under your shirt help for sleeping? I use Medela pads and never have problems but I don't think I actually have over supply.

bocaburger would sleeping with a towel under you help? For getting the pump off without spilling I use papertowel. I have pumping bra and I'll disconnect everything but the portion that goes on your breast. I have papertowel ready and put it right on the end. When I take it off I tip it up so any extra milk runs out into the papertowel. I don't have a huge oversupply, but for sure regularly drip in my clothes.

So can the 4 month sleep regressions come early? Because the babies are only 14 weeks, but G, who used to be my champion sleeper and was STTN most nights, now has this new plan (the past few nights) of waking up MOTN and refusing to fall back asleep.
It's 5:50? and she's been up since 3:45. She's eaten 6oz. I've changed her diaper twice. We've rocked her, shushed her, carried her, tried her in the Merlin suit and the swaddle, and now she's in the swing where she's crying. I don't know what to try next.
Well that's good. Finally got G to sleep and M woke up. Because why not?
I'm sorry you're juggling that, how stressful. I can just imagine how you must worry that one crying will wake up the other. I really really hope they will give you a good day.

It could. But I found with the 4 month regression she needed her sleep crutch (for DD it was her pacifier) but once she had it she'd sleep. Others experience could be different though. Could she have gas? With DD and even DS when that was bad nothing helped until it worked itself out. Sorry last night was rough.

It started at 14 weeks with DD1. That's the early end of normal, sadly. Wonder Week 19's fussy phase starts then.
Any chance she is overtired? Needs to drop a nap? Those things made DD1's sleep regression worse. That and her needing to be held to fall asleep.
ETA: DD1 was a bad sleeper before then, it just got much worse at that point.
