I have and love Fiestaware, but I finally decided DH was right and we needed something else at this stage of life. I love the colors, but the dishes are heavy and thick. With four little kids, not the best.
I recently got the Corelle Swept dishes for something more family-friendly and I love them. They look very nice, but are super durable and easy to stack. They don't take up tons of room and aren't heavy. The mugs aren't actually the same material, but I especially like the shape and size of those. I still use my Fiesta sometimes, too, and I still keep some pieces in the cabinet. I'm surprised at how much I like the Corelle. So, I recommend this pattern if you are looking for something really kid-friendly but still nice looking..
We also have all white Corelle dishes. I love how lightweight they are.
We have 2 sets of Corelle, both with designs. The lightweight factor is my favorite. I used stoneware for a long time and they're just so heavy. We haven't had any microwave explosions, definitely not normal.
But this thread is testing my willpower. I love dishes and looking at them and now I want new ones. Unfortunately these Corelles will probably last forever 😂.
Im going to sound like an old lady, but I love vintage dishes. Replacements.com is a great source for old sets.
Absolutely- they're also really amazing people- the owners, I mean. So in addition to being a cool store, you can feel good about supporting this business. It's a small business, not a corporate behemoth, with good business and social practices.
Right? My dishes are looking pretty pathetic right now... and boring.
So I had two sets of dishes from Target in and post-college that I actually loved. We gave what was left of them to my SIL & BIL when they bought their house, because we got Pottery Barn dishes for our wedding. I'm not going to lie... I kind of hate the PB dishes. I mean, I love the look of them, I wanted them for so long! But in regular daily use, I just don't like them. They also haven't held up very well.

I'm looking at Corelle and Fiestaware now.
Our set is from target and there really isn't anything "wrong" with them, but neither of us had ever lived away from our parents or had picked out dishes so we pretty much picked based on color. (Dark turqoise). They are super heavy and the style that typically chip easily (or so I'm told) Fortunately only a couple of pieces have chipped but not badly. I just try not to use those pieces when we have guests or make sure H or I get them lol
But knowing more of what I know now I think I'd be able to pick pieces that work better for us.
I will say they've held up very well and people are shocked that none of them have chipped badly. *shrug*

I was always taught that all white makes the food look better. Our set is the pantry essentials line from Williams Sonoma. They can go in the microwave, oven, dishwasher, and still look good. I've dropped them more than a few times. No breaking.
Ok, so now that I gave my plug for Replacements, I also love Costco for dish sets. We Had fiesta ware when we got married, but after 10 years or so, a lot of the pieces were starting to chip. I love the lives in look, but H doesn't so we got new dishes from Costco. They don't have the set I got any more, but they have great prices and an ever revolving inventory.
We have an all white, pretty basic/classic design set from either C/B or W/S. I can't remember. They'll last forever. For color, I use colorful cloth napkins or a table cloth. I also have brightly colored latte bowls from Anthro, but after 5 years those are starting to crack.

Our dishwasher has been broken for months now (since before Thanksgiving) so I'd happily wash those beautiful dishes by hand as I'm doing with my old mishmash set/s Actually, damn I should just take out my fine china tonight!
