Hey all, I've been super inactive around TCF lately with being back at work and H having a crazy work schedule and O starting daycare full-time. But I was hoping that some of you wonderful ladies could help me out with some activism I'm wanting to do to honor my little girl who we lost to a TFMR back in June.
A little background for those who don't know our story: I was pregnant with twin girls through donor egg IVF last year, but at our AS, we found out baby B had severe abnormalities. We had a TFMR at 21+6, and I delivered both girls at 35+4. You can read some more details below.
Original story
When we said goodbye
We've set up a website and Facebook page for people to follow our story, and I blog weekly about things we're going through. I've shared the story publicly on news sites, including Scary Mommy, and was even interviewed by NBC Nightly News last week for a spot they're doing on the Texas Senate Bill 25 (wrongful birth bill that essentially enables docs to lie to patients to keep them from getting abortions).
Long story not so short...
With all the political turmoil going on, and the attacks on women's reproductive rights gaining momentum, H and I really want to do something in Cate's memory on the anniversary of the termination (in June). We thought doing a fundraiser and giving a donation to a pro-choice organization in her memory from her sister, us, "and all who love Cate" would be a great thing to do on an otherwise heartbreaking day. But I know nothing about fundraising. The two ideas I'm latched onto at the moment are an online (Facebook) auction or a poker tournament.
That's where you guys come in! I'm hoping you might have some tips, maybe some of you have helped host something like this, or you know someone who has and you can get me some info? MH is worried about asking for donated items from the same pool of people who would be bidding in the auction. I don't know how that would work. I don't know if there are legal issues to look out for. I know nothing. I just know that I really want to do this if we can.
