Well after an hour, I gave up and picked him up. I sang and rocked him until he was pretty much asleep. He startled when I laid him back in his crib, but stayed asleep with some patting and shushing. It's been 10 minutes and he's still asleep. This is also his first time sleeping in his crib. He's been in the bassinet portion of the PNP but at 17lbs he's already passed the weight limit.
@holachica, good luck, mama! I've got a snuggler too. His favorite way to nap is with one foot propped up on my leg. I'm scared for sleep training but I think it has to happen soon. I hope it goes smoothly for you!
Bedtime routine ended at 730, put him down totally awake. He played around for 15 minutes, cried and screamed for 15 minutes, rolled to his side and fell asleep. We checked on him 3 times with our phrase and unstuck his legs from the crib slats. Just waiting for him to scream again but FX.
Sounds like it went really well! Fx that continues!

Tonight is night 5 of sleep training. LO went down at 7 with no crying at all. He only whined when DH was singing (again, maybe his singing is bad, haha). Now it's 10pm, he's still down. We're hoping he'll sleep thru the night again. Last night he did 8-8, would it be greedy to ask for an encore?
FlutterOfYoshis I believe learning to fall asleep by himself has helped DS to nap longer sometimes, but it's still hit or miss. Naps are so different from night sleep for my LO hollydfromtn sorry your first attempt was so rough. Maybe as LO gets used to the crib, it'll get better? Hugs. @holachica glad LO is doing so well! PikoPiko I think you're due many nights of sleep
Little monkey woke at 3am for a feed... Oh well, at least no diaper leakage to deal with this morning. When he went 8-8 the past couple nights, his onesies were wet.
@holachica, good luck with naps. For us naps are still a bit more difficult than night sleep. LO still cries up to 15mins for naps and wakes 30 mins later...
nap 2 failed, after 45 mins he never fell asleep. We kept him up for 20 minutes and are now trying again. Just nap kid so then momma can go to the brewery and have a beer!
Night 6 here. DH put DS down awake, DS was asleep before DH even closed the door to his room. He's been asleep for an hour now. Usually if he doesn't wake by 9.30pm, it'd be a safe sail into the night. 1 hr and 10 mins til 9.30pm.

I need to sleep train, but I need a non-CIO method. LO appears to have silent reflux which explains the happy spit up all the time and screaming when laid down only to pass out the second he's vertical. CIO would make the reflux worse by too much air in his belly. He naps in a bouncy chair at daycare for most naps, but they've got the occasional crib nap out of him. LO is also in our room and there for the rest of the year.
Anyone have a non-CIO method or book that worked for them?

Going to try No Cry Sleep Solution once we finish reading it. DH and I really need to agree on a routine. If LO went back to waking up only 1 or 2 times a night I'd be ok. He did sleep 6 hours at a time early on, but really got worse after starting daycare. I wish he'd sleep for 6 hours now.

Question: who here has a LO "STTN" but still waking only to eat? My LO goes down easy, falls asleep on his own, and has actually (knock on wood) been a pretty decent napper. But he still wakes 1-2 times between 6-6 to eat. I'm debating on using Sleep Easy technique's to wean him, but I'm wondering if he will just drop them on his own in due time or if I have to do something about it.

@holachica, DD was a terrible napper before sleep training. After she was sleep trained and could basically sleep through the night, the nap training was much easier. She caught on really quick.
For those of you who did sleep sense, did naps ever come? We're around a month oUT of training and she still screams for like 45 min for naps, if she ever falls asleep at all. We put her down at first sleepy sign or a few min on advance (she lasts around 1.5 hrs awake first nap then 2 hrs after that). If she sleeps, and that's a big IF, it's still only 30 min. We do a shortened bedtime routine.
We are still fighting crib naps on the weekends osumegs ! It's so tough. I just want her to nap for like an hour or so but I am lucky to get 30 minutes

Mine takes good naps now, on his belly, but I nurse before pretty much every nap just for my sanity. Although my mom put him down for a nap yesterday morning with no nursing or bottle before and he still slept for 90 minutes, so I'm not sure if the feed is necessary anymore.

I'm not sure if I count for this. My LO goes down easy for bed but usually wakes 1-2 times to eat (last night he was up more, but I think it was an anomaly). He falls back asleep easily after eating, I lay him down and go back to bed. I never have to stay up with him.
But I'm in the same boat as you that I'm not sure if I should cut night feedings or not. I don't see the harm right now which is why I haven't, but I know he's capable of sleeping all night because he did it once before, 12.5 hours no feeds.
I'll probably ask at his 6 month appt but for now I'm not stressing over it. I think your baby is older than mine though.
We're just a week into sleep training, LO on some nights sleeps thru entirely, some nights wakes up needing a feed just once. We don't have plans to wean him off night feeds. We don't have that much data to draw a conclusion, but we think we see a pattern. So far it seems that on nights he woke up, he only had 25oz of milk during the day. He's not eating solids yet, still BM/formula.
Those of you had success in nap training - at a high level, what did you do to make LOs sleep longer than 30mins? Mine goes down easy but he's like clockwork, wakes on the dot every time. He looks so tired as the day wears on, poor thing.

They are certainly capable by now. My pedi said once they are 12lb they are physically capable of not needing to be fed for 12 hours straight. But that doesn't mean they want to. The sleep easy solution book said if they eat less than 2oz or on the breast feed for less than 2 minutes before falling back asleep it is a comfort thing and not for hunger. M eats 4oz when he wakes up so I know he is actually hungry, but trying to get him to eat more during the day so he doesn't want to wake up at night isn't working.
See, I don't see the harm in it either (besides obviously I would love to stop getting up altogether), but I also read that babies really don't need to wake to eat at night and will just start eating more during the day to compensate; they need to sleep 12 hours or so being uninterrupted so their bodies can get a full night's rest instead of stopping to digest food. But who knows, you know? You can read anything you want on the internet.

The biggest thing that has helped is not to give up once they wake up the first time. M will cry after 45min-1hour sometimes and I know he's not done because his eyes are closed. When he's had enough, he (generally) wakes up happier. So I go in there, pat his butt, shush him and tell him it's okay, and usually he will go back to sleep for another sleep cycle. Not taking him out of his crib until he's reached X amount of sleep time (at least 1 hour) has worked for me.
PikoPiko DD has been napping pretty willingly and well for a while now (6 weeks?), but still has a lot of short ones. I think it's normal, though really undesirable. Is your LO ever napping longer than 30 mins? I don't mind her being awake more (I like it!) but like you said, she gets so tired if she's taking lots of short naps.
I agree with what toadandbuggie said; but it doesn't always work for us. Actually, it rarely does. I agree that DD wakes up upset and crying when she's not done, and just talking/looking around when she is. We still try to leave her (soothing if needed) for at least an hour, but she rarely goes back to sleep these days. It seems to me that if she stirs and puts herself back to sleep quickly, she's great. If not, there's not much we can do. I'm hopeful that she will keep getting better at it.
