Anyone have a crazy baby who rolls and scoots non stop in their crib? Every attempt at cio weve done turns into him ramming his head into the crib slats and screaming. I also think thats what wakes him up in the motn and why he sleeps so much longer in the pnp. Any advice with that?
Question: who here has a LO "STTN" but still waking only to eat? My LO goes down easy, falls asleep on his own, and has actually (knock on wood) been a pretty decent napper. But he still wakes 1-2 times between 6-6 to eat. I'm debating on using Sleep Easy technique's to wean him, but I'm wondering if he will just drop them on his own in due time or if I have to do something about it.
Yes I still do. The key is knowing if they are actually hungry or just waking out of habit.
The past couple weeks LO was waking 2-3 to eat suddenly. I let it go on for about 2 weeks. Last week I had enough. Her first wakeup was around 10 to 11...you are not hungry kid! So I waited her out, took about 10 mins and she went back. (Before I never waited bc I didn't want her to wake dd1). I figured if she was actually hungry she would wake at the next sleep cycle. She slept till 5am. And she has every night since. Personally, I won't completely night wean, if needed, until solids are established probably around 8 months.
So to answer your question, I would give it a bit of time. If it seems like a habit rather than hunger try waiting him out a bit and see how he does.
For those of you who did sleep sense, did naps ever come? We're around a month oUT of training and she still screams for like 45 min for naps, if she ever falls asleep at all. We put her down at first sleepy sign or a few min on advance (she lasts around 1.5 hrs awake first nap then 2 hrs after that). If she sleeps, and that's a big IF, it's still only 30 min. We do a shortened bedtime routine.
I'm surprised that your LO is still fighting naps that hard after a month. 30 mins is not a surprise. My LO has the same wake times as yours right now. Does she sleep on her tummy? I can only suggest shortening the first one a bit and see if that makes a difference.

No advice, just commiseration. The last time I tried to let S CIO with periodic checks, I went in after 10mins and he had turned himself completely around and had one leg from the knee down sticking through one of the slats. I have no clue how he managed that. Needless to say, I added a mesh bumper to my shopping list the next day.

Got him to go back to sleep after his 45 minute wakeup with some stoking and singing. Back up again nursing because the screaming wouldn't stop. Daycare ran out of the probiotics and didn't tell me so part of it may be tummy pain considering he keeps lifting and slamming his legs. I'm going to pick up another bottle of it and just give it in some expressed milk or formula at home. Won't hurt.

I may try that tomorrow morning and see if that helps. She has fallen asleep on her stomach on her own and sleeps great, but when I put her down on her belly at naps, she just wants to play more.

Yes. It takes about 1 min for her to cross the crib from one end to the other and rotate until she is jammed in a corner and hitting her head. No advice, but I understand. I also would love to hear someone's advice. Everything I read online either says it's ok (um, not if it's waking them a ton) or suggests mesh bumpers, which really only helps if getting limbs outside crib (at least, I would think).

That's my plan. The past two nights he has slept until 5 without needing to eat, BUT I do give a dream feed about 10pm so I think that helps. When I don't dream feed he wakes up around 12 and then 5 again. I'll give it a few more weeks and then try to drop the dream feed. But I don't think I have to do anything drastic to get him to stop - just give it time. The book I was reading and my pedi said I could if I wanted to so I was wondering what other people were doing but it seems like most people are still feeding at night.

babycfeb2015, Yes, my baby turns and twists and scoots himself into a corner a lot. It used to happen more when we were practicing CIO and he would get himself so worked up. But now he's not as bad. I always put him down in the same position and it's funny to see where he ends up. But he's just making himself comfortable now. When he wakes up though, he will kick the sides of the crib and make a whole lot of noise.

toadandbuggie I am also trying to figure out if / when to drop a MOTN feed. I don't mind getting up once to feed her, but she is still waking twice some nights and I don't think she really needs to eat the first time. DH isn't thrilled about it but we've decided that if she wakes up before 1am and doesn't fall back to sleep on her own he'll be the one going in to check on her and try to soothe her before I get up and give her the feed.

Not sure what to do about DS awake and babbling in his crib. He's hungry, but didn't cry except when I bypassed his crib to use the bathroom first.
He also does this when he's awake for the day and I'd like to push getting up by 30 minutes. Do not like being up at 530pm but don't know how to convince DS to go back to sleep when he has toes to play with.
seamonster when DS wakes up, I wait until he starts crying to get him. Even then I usually wait 5 more minutes to see if he will re settle and go back to sleep.
I'll give it a shot. I may need to physically restrain DH from picking DS up at 530 so we can both get more sleep.

seamonster as long as DS isn't crying upset, he's welcome to play in his crib until I'm ready to get up. Sometimes he'll play & nap on and off for a couple hours (530-730) or he'll wake at 7 or 730 and just play until 8 when I go get him. Definitely days I have to get up and feed him at 530, but he's more likely to be chatty / mildly fussy and go back to sleep than escalate to hunger cues. DS is in his own room but we hear him clearly in our room. Sometimes if I'm having a hard time falling back asleep because he's vocal, I'll feed him just so he'll fall deeply asleep again.
Not to freak out you guise, but you should practice picking up your LO when they're happy in their cribs rather than upset and crying. It helps reinforce good behaviors. You don't want to encourage or reward bad behavior (crying for attention). I let LO babble for a bit so im sure he isnt rolling back to sleep, but grab him before he starts to fuss.
first night back on the paci-less horse was ok. Half an hour of crying but only one wake up at 4 where DS seemed to think 'gimme all the milk' was the appropriate solution to his problem. We caved and gave him half a bottle. But no paci! I'm impressed.
Only 1 wake up! Still working on getting DS to go down initially at night and to get up for the day later than 530am. I feed him at wakeup which was 6 or 630 am and then a top up before daycare at 730, but he's pushed his wakeup to 530 and I'm (maybe irrationally) concerned that the 2nd feed so close to the first encouraged him to wake earlier. I'd like my extra sleep and the top up was to encourage him to have his first daycare bottle a little later and get in an extra nursing session.
Working on a crib nap right now! She fussed for like 20 minutes but is now sound asleep. I am hoping for a solid hour! fingers crossed (uh oh did I jinx us??)
Crib naps did not happen. I was solo today and exhausted and trying to work since I'm on call and my shift engineer is on vacation (tears). It was the swing and sleeping on me while I slept. DH and daycare get him down for naps without me, but me by myself is having to break him of nursing to sleep and staying on me. I love the baby cuddles, but this doesn't work for me. At least I've got back up from DH the next two days with regards to naps.
I want to cry this morning. DS woke up at 1030 to nurse and then 1230 and then 3. Could not get him to fall asleep after 3. He nursed and then wanted to chat and play. At 445 I recruited my husband to hold him while I set up the swing and try to soothe him. MH took him from me and told me to get some sleep. Only about 30 minutes total sleep from the baby occurred and it didn't help that DH had the lights on for him to play. At 615 MH wakes me up with a screaming overtired and hungry baby. We are so failing at this.

oh no! Sorry I didn't see that message before. How did it go the last few nights? Hopefully better? What kind of system are you trying at the moment?

We're doing the no cry sleep solution. Had a couple more rough nights with the second tooth making it's appearance. We're being more proactive with the baby Tylenol and teething stuff until they're fully in. A half dose of it has been the difference between constant wake ups and us all getting sleep. We were under the mistaken impression that once it popped through the gum we were ok. Not so much. Definitely a constant learning experience.
Baby Boy is in his crib tonight in the hopes that he sleeps better away from us (ie: me) and doing CIO with checks every 5 minutes. I'm not prepared for this and haven't done near enough reasearch into sleep training methods, but something has got to change. The past week has been total hell Gotta start somewhere right?

Good luck! Stay strong. You've got this.
Thank you mands1125. This is the exact thing my husband has been saying. 45 minute intruder showed up and it's been 30 minutes of him screaming so far. He's sooooo pissed I'm not "rescuing" him.
Those doing CIO: How long would you let your LOs cry before calling it quits and "saving" them
The first 3 nights are the worst! I wanted to quit a few times when it was bad, but now I'm so thankful we kept the consistency.
The longest DS has cried was 1 hr 15 minutes and he fell back asleep. Generally at night, if we know everything is OK, we do our checks but let him fuss.
But, the past week his teeth broke through so I did go rock him a few times MOTN since I knew he was uncomfortable.
Okay, that makes me feel better. He cried for an hour after the 45 minute intruder before he fell asleep again. I just went to check on him because I got paranoid and he's asleep with his little butt up in the air like normal. I'm still terrified for the rest of the night though.
Did sleep training help extend anyone's nap times? DS naps 45 minutes, and he is definitely not happy when he wakes up. We are going to train soon, and I'm hoping it helps the naps.
Not for us but it was all nipple naps before so an improvement.
Things are slowly getting better now. But its been 30 min naps for a long time.
